Excursie naar de archeologische vindplaats Olympia vanuit Zante

De geboorteplaats van de Olympische Spelen ligt op het vasteland van Griekenland. Neem de veerboot vanuit Zante en ga naar het oude Olympia voor een reis door de eeuwen heen. Je bezoekt ook het Archeologisch Museum. Nadat we bij Kyllini zijn aangemeerd, rijden we naar een van de belangrijkste heiligdommen uit de oudheid. Samen met een erkende Olympia-gids en onze eigen lokale expert ontdek je waar de Olympische Spelen in de 8e eeuw voor Christus begonnen. Bekijk de overblijfselen van het stadion waar 45.000 toeschouwers hun favoriete atleten aanmoedigden, inclusief de finishlijn en de fitnessruimte aan het water. Een iPad zal de ruïnes tot leven brengen om te zien hoe ze er ooit uitzagen. Je ziet ook de ruïnes van de Tempel van Hera, waar de Olympische vlam voor het eerst werd aangestoken, en de Tempel van Zeus. Hier stond ooit het standbeeld van Zeus, een van de zeven wereldwonderen. Ga dan naar het Archeologisch Museum om de collectie beelden en bronzen beelden te bekijken. Ga ten slotte naar Olympia-stad voor de lunch en een kijkje in de winkels.

very nice full day trip from Zante. everything is very well organized, from the bus pickup at the exact time and near your place of residence until the return idem. from the port of Zante you are accompanied very professionally by the representative of tui whom I thank warmly for her advice and assistance. On the Olympia site you are accompanied by a very involved guide who gives you all the explanations in the museum as well as on the site itself. you could spend hours listening to him tell the story of ancient Greece and the site of Olympia.

The trip was very enjoyable with a nice driver, unfortunately his name is not known. You can't get them more enthusiastic. We did a little dance together with him and three other guests. Everything was really great to see and do, especially the swimming. however the restaurant for lunch was nothing. For the money you got little and tasteless. The pick up was also only 25 minutes late. Finally I called and a driver came who didn't know what to do and were the only ones. He then went to another hotel where he wasn't supposed to be, so we arrived late at the boarding point. Back on the way, the same wait did not happen again and the same somewhat strange man eventually brought us back. Never an explanation of what went wrong, which is a shame

Enjoyable visit to the site of the ancient Olympics complete with headset assisted guide and an iPad showing how the site would've have looked in ancient times. A great day out for those seeking to enhance their knowledge of Greek ancient history.
