Brilliant day out. Loved everything, great value too. Our guide Frank and driver Hose were excellent. Highly recommend.
This is a great tour combination if you like visiting Mayan archeological sites and also cenotes. A great tour guide and a buffet meal added to a great day visiting Yucatan.
Don’t book with these guys unless you want last minute cancellations to spoil your vacation plans. This was the only tour we had booked for our trip and we were told last minute that for “unforeseen reasons” the tour was cancelled. Seems these guys regularly cancel tours unless they are full. Should have listened to the other reviews warning of this problem with Amigo tours and booked with a more reliable company…buyer beware
Dear Chelsey: We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the last-minute cancellation and want to clarify that we always inform our customers in advance and try to provide alternative options to give you the best service and experience. Your feedback is very important to help us improve. Best Regards from the Quality Department of Amigo Tours – Claudia.
I'll start this off by saying this was 100% worth the cost and time. Our driver Jose and guide Garri were punctual, knowledgable, funny and accommodating. I CAN NOT stress enough how great it was to be at these sites before the crowds. As we were leaving Chichen Itza it was considerably busier so I'm thankful we were able to enjoy the place early with far less people. Finding a tour that skips Valladolid and instead visited Ek Balam was a 10/10 decision for us. Chichen Itza was amazing but something truly spectacular about being able to climb the ruins at Ek Balam and see so much of the carvings still in such good condition. The Cenote Chichikan was also wonderful and not very busy. Buffet was what you'd expect so we had no complaints. The day is LONG so be sure to bring water and snacks. Also be sure to have cash for things like souvenirs, tips, food. There were additional costs to the tour which weren't part of the upfront cost but it was made VERY clear we'd need to pay for those either the day before or on-site. Additional costs were... - Life Jacket & Lockers at the Cenote ($100MXN) - Goverment Tax at Chichen Itza ($571MAN) - Entry to Ek Balam ($481MXN) This ended up to be about $90CAD additional per person. Only thing we would say is to just avoid the tequila tasting. They offer this at the end of the day and give a presentation about how its only available there and how exclusive it is. The tequila is 100% mass produced and relabeled as just for them...walk through any tourist area in Playa or Cancun and you'll see the same bottles with different labels. Its a common tourist trap/scam so just dont both purchasing any. Our guides also told us to not buy anything while at Chichen Itza and to wait until the "official" shopping spot but everything there was the same as you'd seen in other tourist areas. They obviously get a commission so avoid overpaying for those items and instead just tip them well after your trip.
Jorge and José were really nice. Jorge was our guide, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He was clear and good managing the time for activities. The were additional payments we needed to do, we weren't expecting. Bus was nice, comfy with AC, drive was smooth. At the archeological sites beware of additional fees to use gopro, insta360, osmo pocket, gimbals etc. Bring some extra cash. Our tour started at 6 am no snacks were included, we had Buffet lunch around 1pm honestly wasn't the greatest food, it was cold,at the site they accept cards
This was an amazing experience learning about and seeing the Mayan ruins with an actual Mayan. Frank was so knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Our driver Graciel, the van, the company was timely and professional. Chichen Itza was really interesting and amazing but Im so glad we also went to see EK'BALAM so we could actually climb the ruins. it was a very long day, but Frank made sure we were comfortable and all our needs were met. It got a little warm climbing the ruins in the sun in January, but the weather was mostly perfect. Frank was also knowledgeable about the interesting flora and fauna.
Friendly, fun and knowledgeable guide to the Mayan world. Visit to Chichen Itza too short, maybe too much free time
-Alma
This tour is a MUST! If you have any interest in Mayan history, Kevin is the guide you want! He is full of knowledge and has an anthropology education to back it up. He was excited and ready to share his wealth of information about not only Mayan history/culture but that of the many other indigenous peoples of Mexico. He was entertaining and hilarious, as well as timely and organized. I wish I could put him in my pocket for the rest of my trip! I felt safe with Jose behind the wheel, and could not have asked for a better day! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Dear Amanda_F We appreciate the time you took to share with us this positive comment about our guide, and we are happy to know that his good work has made you enjoy this visit. We hope to welcome you on another tour again! Kind regards from Amigo Tours. -Alma
We had this tour guide named pastor and he was very helpful in getting us to understand Mayan culture! He helped my family members with disabilities and never let anyone feel left out
From my 6 am pickup, Marcela was enthusiastic and kept the energy up throughout all the sites and the ride back. The driver was polite and we had a smooth ride for napping too. This tour is a great way to see a whole lot in a day. I felt like the timing at each location was perfect. We were never hurrying or sitting around with nothing to do. I liked that we got to eat some Mexican food too and that there were vegetarian/vegan options.
Dear fiona_c, Thank you very much. Our entire team is proud to have made this experience memorable for you. We'd love to welcome you back. Kind regards from AMIGO TOURS. -Judy.
