Rani-ki-Vav, gelegen langs de Saraswati-rivier, begon als eerbetoon aan een monarch in de 11e eeuw na Christus. Trapputten zijn unieke ondergrondse waterbeheersystemen op het Indiase subcontinent, ontstaan rond het 3e millennium voor Christus. Ze evolueerden van eenvoudige putten in zandig terrein naar ingewikkelde constructies met meerdere verdiepingen, die het hoogtepunt van de bouwstijlen van trappenhuizen en Maru-Gurjara vertegenwoordigden. Rani-ki-Vav is een voorbeeld van dit meesterschap, ontworpen als een omgekeerde tempel die de heiligheid van water benadrukt, met zeven niveaus van ingewikkeld gesneden trappen met meer dan 500 belangrijkste sculpturen en talloze kleinere sculpturen die religieuze, mythologische en seculiere thema's uitbeelden, vaak ontleend aan de literatuur. Het vierde niveau daalt af naar een tank van 9,5 x 9,4 meter, 23 meter diep, terwijl de schacht van de put, 10 meter in diameter en 30 meter diep, op het meest westelijke punt van het terrein ligt. Deze site toont de evolutie van trappenhuizen tot artistieke wonderen die functionaliteit combineren met esthetische grandeur.
De oorsprong van de beoefening van de zonneaanbidding in India wordt kennelijk gevonden in de Vedische geschriften van de hindoereligie, die de duizenden jaren oude traditie symboliseren. Modhera wordt soms Mundera genoemd, de oorspronkelijke nederzetting van de Modha-brahmanen, en er wordt gezegd dat hij hen als Krishnarpana heeft gekregen ter gelegenheid van het huwelijk van Ram en Sita. Ze traden op als de goeroes van de Modha Vaniyas. De Jain acharya, Hemchandra, was van de Modha-ouderschap. De opmerkelijke Zonnetempel in Modhera ligt op de linkeroever van de rivier de Pushpavati, een zijrivier van de rivier de Rupan in Becharaji Taluka in het Mehsana-district van Gujarat.

Mr. Ravi showed up on time in a clean car. He was a careful driver and respectful at all times. Kept us updated on which site we were going to. Both, the Vav and Modhera temple are worth going to. Well maintained sites set in lush manicured lawns.

I have mixed feelings about this private tour. On the positive side, the trip was well-organized and we followed the itinerary exactly as planned. However,as I was said for a "premium" service, but we were given a basic compact car. While it had A/C, it was not the ‘premium’ vehicle. Overall, we are quite satisfied with the tour.

Sun temple was great. Really interesting history and beautiful site. The Rav Ki Vav step well was amazing - highly recommend - like a temple but in the ground rather than going up! Fascinating. I do think the £75 charge for ‘tour’ which is basically just a taxi - no food, no admittance fees etc - is a bit misleading. It should be called ‘we book you a taxi to x and y’ !

This was a very disappointing experience. First, there was unclear communication with the driver. We were waiting almost 30 minutes for the driver and then learned he had been at the hotel waiting outside. We would have expected him to come into the lobby at our reserved time to meet us. Next, the car was very poor quality and unsafe. The seatbelts were not working and the driver was unconcerned about this. Frankly, this is unacceptable. We ended up getting out of the car and cancelling the tour.

Pick up and drop off from the hotel. 7 hours private tour without any issues. Driver was very friendly and skilled in driving - sometimes it was very crowded - cars, tuk tuks, people, cows, dogs. He made all trip safely. I highly recommended this company
