Op het eiland Lokrum bezoeken we de grootste grot van Dubrovnik, de Pidgeon-grot. Afgelegen, aan de buitenzijde van het eiland, is de ingang omgeven door steile rotsen en mediterraan groen dat uit de rotsen steekt. Je kunt je het ontstaan ervan voorstellen, hoe de enorme en sterke golven die duizenden jaren lang op de rotsen slaan, dit natuurwonder hebben gevormd.
Fort Lovrjenac, vaak "Dubrovnik's Gibraltar" genoemd, is een fort en theater buiten de westelijke muur van de stad Dubrovnik in Kroatië, 37 meter boven zeeniveau. Beroemd om zijn toneelstukken en zijn belang bij het verzet tegen de Venetiaanse overheersing, overschaduwt het de twee ingangen van de stad, vanaf de zee en over land. In het begin van de 11e eeuw probeerden de Venetianen een fort te bouwen op dezelfde plek waar momenteel Fort Lovrijenac staat. Als ze erin waren geslaagd, zouden ze Dubrovnik onder hun macht hebben gehouden, maar de bevolking van de stad was hen voor. De "Kronieken van Ragusa" onthullen hoe het fort binnen slechts drie maanden werd gebouwd en vanaf dat moment voortdurend werd gereconstrueerd. Toen de Venetiaanse schepen arriveerden, vol materialen voor de bouw van het fort, kregen ze te horen dat ze naar Venetië moesten terugkeren.
De muren van Dubrovnik zijn een reeks stenen verdedigingsmuren die de stad Dubrovnik omringen. In de buitengebieden van de stad werden wallen gebouwd, inclusief de berghellingen, als onderdeel van een beeldenreeks uit 1272. De bestaande stadsmuren werden voornamelijk gebouwd in de 13e tot 17e eeuw. De muren hebben een ononderbroken loop van ongeveer 1.940 meter (6.360 voet) lang, omringen het grootste deel van de oude stad, en bereiken een maximale hoogte van ongeveer 25 meter (82 voet).
De Villa Sheherezade ligt op een exclusieve locatie in het hart van Dubrovnik. Oorspronkelijk gebouwd in 1929 door de welvarende Russische Jood Vilim Zimdin, ter ere van zijn mysterieuze minnares genaamd Sheherezade, naar wie de villa nog steeds vernoemd is.
Al in de 14e eeuw, na de opkomst van epidemieën van besmettelijke ziekten, besloot de regering van Dubrovnik de eerste quarantaines te bouwen voor het isoleren van reizigers en het onderzoeken van goederen die bestemd waren voor distributie, en in 1590 begon de bouw van Lazareti in Ploče, die duurde tot 1642.

Beautiful views of the wall and island. Boat is well maintained and the young Captain was wonderful and very informative. If you are prone to sea sickness this adventure is not for you, the seas are choppy. Would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful time on this sunset boat trip with Jakov/Jacob. It was such a lovely chilled experience with a friendly skipper who was very knowledgeable and took great care when the sea was choppy. We particularly enjoyed the music and the drinks were good too. Our skipper Mario was lovely. Prompt and professional. Hubby and I had the pleasure of a private sunset experience. Drinks were offered and we connected to the Bluetooth speaker and played some time tracks for 1.5hrs. Mari warned me that the waters were abit choppy due to the windy. I got sea sick towards the end of the cruise. The waters were wilder than I expected but a great experience none the less.
