It worked for us. I'd suggest taking your own food and drink on the ferry. We took a train to Ludlow from Paddington Station. Two trains to Ludlow where we stayed two nights. Check out festivals in Ludlow. We were to take two more trains, following our stay in Ludlow, to Holyhead and then the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. The last leg of our trip to the ferry was by rail and we were concerned how we'd get from he train station to the ferry. No worries! We disembarked from he train right at the ferry terminal!
Brian Duggan was the best tour guide! Passionate about all things Irish, from history to lore to personal tales. He never missed a beat. Learned a great deal from Brian. Thanks a bunch!

Fabulous tour. Loved the train and ferry ride. Hotel was great, centrally located

I am writing this in the hope that it can help others that are looking at this tour. My mother was booked on the 4 Day Independent London to Dublin by Virgin Trains and Irish Ferry tour. This was booked through Viator. I have to express our sincere disappointment. It was the first time my mother has done such a trip on her own. This is billed as a 4 day trip, however neglects to say that 2 of those days are solid travel. At least 9 hours on the first day and the same on the last. So really it is only 2 actual days in Dublin. This is not communicated on any correspondence, nor was the time of arrival, departure from Dublin, or even the name of the hotel. The only information we were given was the meeting time and place on the first day. Now we know why...it would have ensured we did NOT book this trip. This tour does not demonstrate value for money and there was no transparency or any details for around travel time and duration which is what really impacted the trip. We tried to get in touch with Viator to ask questions before she left but it was nearly impossible to get any detail. So disappointed as my Mother was really looking forward to this and ended up being utterly exhausted by all the travel in such a short space of time. We would never book with Viator again.
Dear Catherine, Thank you for your review. Our tour itinerary is clearly advertised for those considering booking this package. Clearly you did not grasp the detail of the itinerary and possibly our hosted Railtours for the independent traveller was not suitable for an elderly lady on her own. Regards David

Excellent support by staff assisting us. Met at the station, picked up from the ferry and brought back to the ferry. The free tickets for the hop-on hop-off bus were great. Really enjoyed the tour of Dublin. Hotel was excellent. Nice room and friendly staff. Only complaint was that the seats on the train weren't reserved for us and the train was quite booked. ended up in the last carriage.

The rate is definitely 5 stars. The guide who met us on Euston station was amazing. He showed and explained us everything we needed to know, found the best seats on the train. The taxi drivers in Dublin were really communicative and helpful as well. The way through Wales and Irish sea was a little bit long but it was a good experience, especially if you want to see a big ferry and like trains.
The Ashling hotel has a good location, the room is one of a great quality.
The Dublin itself is the city of a dream! Just advise you to plan what you want to visit there in advance, especially if you haven't got enough time.
It wasn't the first time when we use Viator Tours and it is a company of a great quality and we will definitely use it again in future.

Enjoyed for the most part. Train booking did not give assigned seats even though most seats where reserved which caused us to have to change seats as people arrived...I checked to reserve seats for return and was told that our tickets where not changeable. Hotel needs to be upgradeable, we where placed in an converted extension to the hotel over an Irish Pub on a Saturday night with no air conditioning windows open, so you can see where this is going. Elevator to floor then up and down stairs to get to the room with luggage. Not fun!

Well organised tour. Hotel Ashling was also very good. Train trip was a touch long and uncomfortable

If people loves the train and ferry, this is a good option. Two days of that seem a bit wasteful of time out of five days. Dublin itself is a really great city. Our hotel is very well located but unfortunately a bit tired and not ready for hot summer days.

Everything was OK, except the fact that we had no reserved seats on the train and it was very crowded on the way back.
