Verken Damnoen Saduak, de populairste drijvende markt in Thailand, ideaal voor fotomomenten, eten en om een kijkje te nemen in een vervlogen manier van leven. Hoewel de markt tegenwoordig meer evolueerde tot een toeristische attractie, is het nog steeds de moeite waard om te bezoeken vanwege de unieke sfeer en de ervaring die het biedt. Verder bezoeken we Talad Rom Hoop, ook wel bekend als 'Train Umbrella Market', voor een unieke marktervaring. De markt zit letterlijk op het spoor en elke dag maken klanten en winkeliers plaats voor de Bangkok-Maeklong trein om te passeren. Met het luiden van een waarschuwingsbel gevolgd door een aankondiging in het Thai via de luidspreker trekken de verkopers binnen enkele seconden hun luifels terug. Geweldig!

We bezoeken Thailands beroemdste drijvende markt: Damnoen Saduak. Bij aankomst stapt u aan boord van een traditionele longtailboot voor een rit door de grachten, die een kijkje in het leven langs de waterwegen biedt. Het Damnoen Saduak kanaal werd in 1866 in gebruik genomen door koning Rama IV om de Mae Klong en Tha Chin rivieren te verbinden en het watertransport tussen de Ratchaburi en Samut Sakhon provincies te verbeteren. Foto's van deze kleurrijke en bruisende markt behoren tot de meest voorkomende in reisbrochures over Thailand. Hoewel de markt tegenwoordig grotendeels voor toeristen is, biedt het nog steeds een onvergetelijke ervaring met zijn levendige sfeer, boten en kanaaltaferelen. Houd er rekening mee dat de totale tijd besteed aan deze excursie inclusief de rit vanuit Bangkok is, die ongeveer 1,5 uur duurt, afhankelijk van het verkeer. Opmerking: Damnoen Saduak is tegenwoordig onmiskenbaar toeristisch, en hoewel het misschien niet meer volledig authentiek aanvoelt, blijft het een van de beste plekken om een drijvende markt te ervaren.
Onze volgende stop is de geweldige Mae Klong Railway Market, plaatselijk bekend als Talat Rom Hoop ('Market Umbrella Close'). Stel je voor dat een trein dwars door een openbare markt rijdt! De Mae Klong Railway Market bestaat al sinds 1905. De visserij was (en is nog steeds) een van de belangrijkste middelen van bestaan van de mensen die hier woonden, en de markt was een andere manier om hun goederen te verkopen. Ambtenaren besloten een spoorweg aan te leggen om deze goederen beter te kunnen leveren aan andere provincies. De markt bleef echter bestaan, ondanks de nieuwe sporen die er doorheen gingen. We wandelen over de markt en zien de trein aankomen of vertrekken voordat we teruggaan naar Bangkok. Totale tijd om hier door te brengen is inclusief reistijd tussen Damnoen Saduak en Maeklong Railway Market en van Maeklong Railway Market terug naar Bangkok (ongeveer 1,5 uur - afhankelijk van de verkeerssituatie).
Wat Bang Kung is beroemd om zijn kleine kapel die volledig omsloten is door de wortels van een banyanboom genaamd Bot Prok Po. Het is bijna alsof de boom zelf de pilaren van de tempel zijn en dat zonder de wortels de kapel zou instorten. Je kunt ook naar binnen gaan om respect te betuigen aan het Boeddhabeeld. Het tempelterrein deed ooit dienst als marinefort, de locatie van een felle 18e-eeuwse strijd tussen Siam en indringers uit Birma. Tegenwoordig is het tempelterrein ook een gedenkteken voor krijgersheldendom.

- Tijdens de tour bezoeken we een oude tempel. Vergeet niet dat tempels heilige plaatsen zijn en dat je je gepast moet kleden. Schouders en knieën moeten bedekt zijn.
- Het verkeer in Bangkok kan zwaar overbelast zijn. Omdat onze rondleidingen op groepsbasis verlopen, kunnen we maximaal 10 minuten na de geplande vergadertijd wachten. Na deze respijtperiode begint de Gids aan de tour. Als u niet op tijd kunt komen, laat het ons dan weten voordat de tour begint. Indien mogelijk zullen we ons best doen om u te verzetten naar het volgende beschikbare tijdslot of de volgende dag, maar er zullen wel kosten voor het verzetten van toepassing zijn. Er wordt geen restitutie verstrekt in geval van late aankomst.
- Damnoen Saduak is tegenwoordig onmiskenbaar toeristisch, en hoewel het misschien niet meer volledig authentiek aanvoelt, blijft het een van de beste plekken om een drijvende markt te ervaren.
- Annuleringen die minimaal 24 uur voor aanvang van de tour worden gemaakt, komen in aanmerking voor volledige restitutie. Voor annuleringen die minder dan 24 uur van tevoren worden gemaakt of in geval van no-show, wordt geen restitutie verleend.
- Onze tours werken met regen of zonneschijn, omdat tropische regenbuien in Thailand meestal niet lang duren. Als het hard regent, proberen we beschutting te zoeken en gaan we door zodra het weer verbetert. Tijdens het regenseizoen is het een goed idee om een regenjas of poncho mee te nemen. Houd er rekening mee dat annuleringen vanwege het weer niet in aanmerking komen voor restitutie.
- De exacte vertrektijd vanaf het verzamelpunt wordt u een dag voor de tour via privébericht op het boekingsplatform toegestuurd. Controleer uw e-mail (inclusief uw junk/spam folder) zorgvuldig de dag voor uw tour om vertragingen of gemiste vertrektijden te voorkomen.
- Voor rondleidingen die om 7.00 uur beginnen, is het vertrek vanaf de ontmoetingsplaats tussen 6.30 en 7.00 uur, afhankelijk van het aantal deelnemers.
- Voor rondleidingen die om 10 : 15 uur beginnen, zal het vertrek van de ontmoetingsplaats tussen 9 : 30 en 10 : 15 uur zijn, afhankelijk van het aantal deelnemers.

This was a visit to the floating market and railway market. We were very lucky that there were only the two of us on trip, so we had the exclusive services of Paul, our guide and Maue our lady driver. Apologies if I got the spelling wrong. I visited the floating market 40 years ago when it was an actual working market and was surprised to see that now it's purely a tourist attraction and the only things on sale were souvenirs. Having said that, I suppose it's great that they managed to preserve it in some form and it's very pleasant to take a boat trip through the market stores which last time wasn't really possible. Paul was a brilliant guide. He was very cheerful, very funny, full of energy and we exchanged some interesting stories with him. The driving was also perfect. We did get to see a couple of other things which was very nice, a tree which had grown into a 400-year-old monastery building covering it with roots and branches. Also a seafood fish market. The train thing was okay but much like others I have seen in Hanoi. Expensive restaurants on the side of the tracks while you wait for a train to come past. Only downside is it's a bit of a long trek to and from, about an hour and a half each way but the car was very comfortable and air-conditioned

It was a little hard to find the location to meet but our guide was very good and guided us to the meeting place . Our guide explained everything to us and was very good . I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to travel around Bangkok. Both our guide and driver was very friendly

The floating market was a fun experience overall and while touristy, still recommended. However, my biggest criticism was the local tour operator really diminished the experience. To me, the whole experience was very rushed, and while I appreciated visiting a couple of sites outside of Bangkok, we did not have enough time to explore the market; I felt rushed the entire time and really could have used some time to lazily browse or get something to eat. Instead I was put on a strict clock to return within 40 minutes to return to Bangkok. Furthermore, our tour guide did not really offer much in the way of history or culture, in fact he slept in the car on the way back to Bangkok. In the end it felt more like transportation to some sites with a compressed timeline. I would likely rent a car and make my own trip to the markets outside of Bangkok on my next trip.
