Vanuit je hotel in Porto word je 's ochtends opgehaald voor de rit naar Amarante. We stoppen bij de stad Amarante om de oude brug en de São Gonçalo-kerk te bezoeken, een symbool van de lokale identiteit, gebouwd in de XIII eeuw door de beschermheilige van de stad São Gonçalo, een benedictijnse monnik. De zoetigheden en taarten van Amarante zijn enorm beroemd en u krijgt de kans om ze te proeven in een bekende banketbakkerij.
Na Amarante gaan we naar het Mateus-paleis in de stad Vila Real. Mateus Palace, gelegen in prachtige tuinen op een uitgestrekte boerderij, wordt beschouwd als een van de mooiste voorbeelden van barokke burgerlijke architectuur in Portugal. Je leert van een gecertificeerde gids het verhaal van het paleis en aan het einde geniet je van wandelen en foto's maken in de tuinen.
Het hoogtepunt van de reis is de lunch in het wijngebied van Favaios. Voor de lunch wordt er een aperitief geserveerd in de tuinen van het landgoed. De all-inclusive lunch bestaat uit verschillende proefvoorgerechten (alheira, pataniscas, rojões), Sopa de Pedra (stenen soep) in ijzeren pot, een kalfsstoofpot of gebraden en dessertbuffet. Er worden witte en rode Douro-wijnen geserveerd, evenals Muscat-wijn van Favaios en Port-wijn. Na de lunch bezoekt u de wijnkelders van het landgoed.
De tour gaat verder bergafwaarts vanuit de regio Favaios naar Pinhão, op de rechteroever van de rivier de Douro. In Pinhão bezoekt u het treinstation met zijn fantastische azulejos (tegels) panelen uit het begin van de XX eeuw en maakt u de Douro-riviercruise van een uur in een typische Rabelo-boot om de werelderfgoedschoonheid van de wijngaarden van de Douro-vallei te aanschouwen. Vaar stroomopwaarts naar het landgoed Romaneira, in een zeer mooi stuk van de rivier de Douro, waar u enkele wijnproducerende boerderijen, terrassen tot aan de rivier en wijngaarden zult zien, die een uniek landschap vormen dat door UNESCO als werelderfgoed wordt beschouwd. We keren terug naar Porto via de weg N222 Pinhão - Peso da Régua, die als een van de mooiste ter wereld wordt beschouwd. 17 mijl, 93 zachte bochten en adembenemende uitzichten op de Douro-vallei. Our Douro Valley tour with Pedro was, without a doubt, one of the best experiences of our trip to Portugal. From the moment we met him, it was clear that he genuinely cared about ensuring everyone had an amazing day. Pedro went above and beyond in every way. Before the tour even began, he asked about dietary restrictions to make sure everyone was accommodated. Throughout the day, he shared an incredible wealth of knowledge about the history of Porto, the Douro Valley, and the centuries-old tradition of winemaking. He explained not only the history of the region but also the passion, craftsmanship, and hard work that go into producing every bottle of wine. His storytelling made the history come alive and gave us a much deeper appreciation for everything we experienced. What impressed us most was how engaging he was with our entire family. Traveling with an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old on a 12-hour tour could have been challenging, but Pedro kept both of our children entertained, involved, and interested from beginning to end. He has a remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages, making the experience enjoyable for both adults and children alike. Pedro also made sure we left with wonderful memories by taking beautiful family photos throughout the day. Instead of worrying about getting everyone in the picture, we were able to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery while he captured those special moments for us. Every part of the tour—from the spectacular landscapes and wineries to the river cruise and incredible food—was outstanding. But what truly made this experience exceptional was Pedro. His warmth, professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine love for his country and its history were evident throughout the entire day. Fantastic day tour to the Douro with Pedro . It was the highlight of our visit to Porto . It was a full day of touring , nothing was too much trouble . At all times he went above and beyond . Would definitely recommend . By the end felt as if we had become friends .
Our family of 5 (kids 11,13,15) had a wonderful day with Pedro. We felt completely immersed in the culture of the Douro Valley. Pedro was prompt, professional and very friendly. What a fabulous day! Pedro was so passionate and informative about Portugal in general, and Porto specifically. Pedro was an amazing guide. He knew so much about the area, history and everything. And we lucked out and it turned out to just be my husband and myself, so we had a private tour! Everything was included in the price and Pedro took great care of us.

A very interesting day with a nice mix of places on the tour. Pedro was a very good host and couldn't have been more helpful. He has a wide knowledge of the sites we visited and scheduled our timings to avoid the worst of the crowds.
