We had a phenomenal day in the Douro Valley. Delfim is an amazing host. Born and bred in Porto he is a fund of knowledge. A perfect itinerary- we were able to visit a small production winery, enjoyed a beautiful lunch overlooking the Douro, experienced a Port wine tasting and a river cruise on the Douro. We arrived in Porto with the intention of taking the train to Pinhão and touring the Duoro Valley on our own. After talking with our hotel management, we discerned our options and realized that a private guide was the best way to tour the area without encountering the hassle of crowds or arranging transportation. It was fantastic that Delfim was available. He was prompt to meet us and away we went! As soon as we began riding to the Duoro Valley, he was a wealth of information in regards to area and geography. Delfim understood what highlights the 4 of us wanted to see and experience on our day together. His driving and commentary were perfect in explaining the sites in regards to the wine-making history and culture. We enjoyed excellent wine tastings and a wonderful lunch as well as an hour-long boat tour. All during our time together we all sensed his genuine passion for his homeland as well as his interest in our time in Portugal. Noted highlights occurred several times when he would stop along the way at isolated panoramic spots and villages and tell us the story behind each stop. The entire day was such a delight. As we made our way back to our hotel in Porto, we realized that we had met a new friend along the journey!
