Onder leiding van een gepassioneerde lokale historicus loopt deze tour een VOLLEDIG circuit van de beroemde stadsmuren met kleinere groepen voor de kwaliteit van de ervaring van een gast. Beschikbaar als een OPENBARE Tour met individuele boekbare plaatsen of als een PRIVATE Tour voor uw groep alleen. 1. Privétours (2 uur) (1 - 30 plaatsen) Alternatieve startpunten en routes kunnen worden aangevraagd en aangepast om mindervaliden of rolstoelgasten te faciliteren. 2. Openbare Tour - Individuele plaatsen (est90mins) (1 - 15 plaatsen) 3. Langere tours zijn beschikbaar - stuur een bericht Deze tour geeft een bredere introductie in de geschiedenis van de stad, met inbegrip van St Columba, Vikingen, Normandiërs en Ierse stamhoofden, de Plantage van Ulster, de bouw van de iconische muren, het beleg van 1688/89, emigraties naar de Nieuwe Wereld van de Schotse Ieren, industrialisatie met inbegrip van de shirt fabrieken, de 1840 aardappelhongersnood , de Home Rule crisis en verdeling, de stad in twee wereldoorlogen , de recente Troubles, het vredesproces met inbegrip van Brexit, en de Derry Girls.

In dit deel van de tour zullen we kijken naar het deel van de muren van Butcher Gate terug naar Shipquay Place, en meer aspecten van de geschiedenis van de stad bekijken vanaf het moment van het beleg tot heden. We zullen ook het Craft Village bezoeken.

Had a great two hours with David who met us at the hotel and accommodated a family member who is a wheelchair user. Great tour with lots of info not available in the history books. Very flexible and gave us lots of choices in terms of what we wanted to see and hear about as we “dandered” through and around Derry.

I knew very little about Derry apart from the Troubles. I loved the views from the Walls of the meandering river, it reminded me of Inverness. I learned such a lot from David Douglas on the walk; he explained history without overwhelming us and I gathered from him and other people a spirit of looking to the future. I bought two well written booklets of walks around Derry, written by Richard Doherty, with stunning detailed illustrations by Tim Webster. I certainly want to visit Derry again.

We loved this tour with David. We would never have been able to appreciate all of the different aspects of the City Walls without his guidance. We could tell that he’s truly passionate about his home town, Derry. David also gave us lots of tips about other things that we could do after the tour. We took his advice and went to the Guildhall to see the noble peace prize and then walked over the peace bridge. If you’re visiting Derry, do this tour. You can’t go wrong.
