De tour begint in Piazzale Verdi in de oude Porta San Donato, waar het VVV-kantoor zich bevindt, grenzend aan de historische renaissance-muren.
Vanaf Piazzale Verdi loopt u langs de Via San Paolino, die overeenkomt met de oude Romeinse straat (Decumanus Maximus), langs de Renaissance-kerk gewijd aan de patroonheilige van de stad, San (Saint) Paolino. Aan het einde van de straat, zie Piazza San Michele, het gebied waar het oude Romeinse forum zich bevond. Tijd om te stoppen om de spectaculaire gevel van de 12e-eeuwse kerk met dezelfde naam te fotograferen. Onderweg kom je Lucca's beroemdste beroemdheid, Giacomo Puccini, tegen en zie je de buitenkant van het gebouw waar hij geboren is. Nog steeds fascineren zijn opera's over de hele wereld!
Wandel langs de Via Fillungo, de belangrijkste en drukste winkelstraat van de stad, waar zowel traditionele winkels als middeleeuwse torenhuizen te vinden zijn. De twee hoogste openbare torens zullen ook worden behandeld: Torre delle Ore (de toren met de klok) en de heel bijzondere Torre Guinigi, die wordt gekroond door zeven steeneiken. Er wachten nog meer verrassingen, zoals het prachtige mozaïek in Byzantijnse stijl op de gevel van een van de meest geliefde kerken in Lucca: San Frediano.
Op slechts een steenworp afstand van de San Frediano-kerk is een van de mooiste pleinen in Lucca, Piazza Anfiteatro. De elliptische vorm van het karakteristieke plein is te danken aan de daaropvolgende bouw van gebouwen boven de fundamenten van het oude Romeinse amfitheater.
Een korte wandeling langs meer middeleeuwse straatjes en u bereikt de kathedraal van San Martino met zijn ongewone en opvallende romaanse gevel van Pisa-Lucca. Dit is waar de tour eindigt. Als je echter niet te moe bent, zal de gids heel blij zijn om de rondleiding door de kathedraal voort te zetten. Er is een toegangsprijs van € 3,00. In het binnenland, de Volto Santo (het heilige gezicht), een suggestief houten kruisbeeld, al eeuwenlang vereerd en het symbool van Lucca, een ongelooflijk laatste avondmaal geschilderd door Tintoretto, en, in de sacristie, de prachtige marmeren sarcofaag van Ilaria del Carretto , het meesterwerk uit de vroege 15e eeuw gebeeldhouwd door Jacopo della Quercia uit Siena, wacht op je bezoek.

Beautiful experience and Nadia our guide was super nice and made everything more fun with anecdotes and was available for various clarifications, also available to stay with us inside the Duomo
We really enjoyed our walking tour of Lucca with Nadia. She was incredibly knowledgeable and insightful, and her stories and explanations gave us a much better understanding of the city and its history. What we particularly appreciated was that Nadia added a little something extra to the tour. She took us to what, in her opinion, is the best place for gelato and granita in Lucca. It wasn't part of the standard itinerary, but it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation – the kids were absolutely delighted! That personal touch made the tour feel less like a standard sightseeing experience and more like being shown around the city by someone who genuinely knows and loves Lucca. The joining point is inside at the information centre, I was not aware of this. Very informative but also Italian people on the tour and so a lot of time spent waiting for the guide to give the Italian version too. Was late finishing by at least half an hour and we missed the end in order to catch a train.
Lucca is a very beautiful city. I rented an apartment in the historic area, within the walls. I decided to base myself there to travel to other places in Tuscany. Everything by train. Lucca exudes history in every street you walk down. Its people are friendly; its food and coffee are tasty; its architecture shows the different stages and styles as time has passed. I loved it and would go back again.
This was a great tour of Lucca. Our guide was lovely, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the history of Lucca. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to walk around Lucca and learn the background of this fabulous city.
The tour had about 25 English speaking customers and 2 Italian so the guide spent half the time speaking Italian and completely lost the interest of the group

This is the perfect way to get a taste of the history and stories of Lucca. Our guide was full of knowledge and stories. She even stayed with us after the 2 hours and continued to show us around. She was a joy to be with!
