Alfama is niet alleen een van de oudste en meest pittoreske wijken van Lissabon, maar was ook een van de weinige wijken die niet werd verwoest tijdens de aardbeving van 1755. En zo heeft de stad nog steeds zijn schilderachtige familiale charme behouden. In feite komt de naam van deze buurt van het Arabische 'Al-hamma', wat 'hete fonteinen' of 'baden' betekent. De steile kronkelende steegjes van deze wijk, ingericht in prachtige 'azulejos', maken plaats voor adembenemende uitzichten op een zee van terracotta daken en de rivier de Taag. De aroma's van de traditionele Portugese keuken, de echo's van Fado-melodieën en het gebabbel van de oudere Portugese lokale bevolking, maken deze buurt tot een van de meest authentieke in Lissabon! Onze tour begint in Rossio en passeert enkele belangrijke gebieden voordat we naar het hart van Alfama gaan, waar je ook een stop maakt bij de Miradouro Portas do Sol, voordat je de tour bij de kathedraal beëindigt.

El Castillo de San Jorge is een historisch kasteel in de Portugese hoofdstad Lissabon, gelegen in de parochie Santa Maria Maior. De menselijke bewoning van de heuvel van het kasteel gaat terug tot minstens VIII v.Chr. C., ook al dateren de eerste vestingwerken uit de eerste eeuw voor Christus.

Great tour of Lisbon's old town giving highly detailed facts along with local tips and tricks. We were checked in on with stops also in the shade helping during peak heatwave. We were all involved and spoken to on an individual level also. Would highly recommend.

We paid a small amount to book the tour, however when we got there we were told the tour was free. We were then it informed to please tip the guide because she would have to pay her boss for the number of people on the tour.

On the Discover Lisbon website, the title is only "secrets of the old town". The website does not mention that this is a tour of Alfama. My friend and I booked both the Alfama and the Old Town tour, so we were disappointed to show up for our second tour and realize it was the same as the first. Please clarify this on the website!!!
This walking tour through Alfama was a nice way to learn the landscape. Luigi was our tour guide. He was pleasant and knowledgeable about the history of Lisbon. The walk is about 2 hours. It took us through the narrow and hidden streets, up a winding hill. The views are incredible! You also take a small break at the top of the hill where you can grab an espresso and pastel. There is also a bathroom available at the cafe. You get to see the local landmarks like the castle, the smallest bookstore in the world, and the oldest standing house in Lisbon.
