Dieng-plateau met Sikunir Sunrise-dagtour

Onze reis begint vanuit Yogyakarta naar het Dieng-plateau om getuige te zijn van de gouden zonsopgang vanaf Sikunir. De mistige locatie, zwavelhoudende bronnen, oude tempels en gekleurde meren maken dit echt tot een plek van natuurwonder en culturele betekenis. We bezoeken de Arjuna-tempel, kleine hindoetempels die dateren uit de zevende eeuw. we hebben nu 10 tempels in plaats van 400 tempels (Geschiedenis van Java: Raffles's boek 1817) Mensen hebben door vaardigheden gecreëerde tempels die we Sipi noemen. Voordat “Sipi” een tempel voor het publiek maakt, moet Sipi in dit gebied een kleine tempel creëren en deze aan de leider van Sipi laten zien. Dat zijn lang geleden zoveel tempels in dit gebied.

Je wordt om middernacht opgehaald bij je hotel in Yogyakarta, de reis naar het Dieng-plateau duurt ongeveer 3 uur met de auto. De wandeling naar het uitkijkpunt bij zonsopgang op het Dieng-plateau op de top van de Sikunir-heuvel duurt 20-30 minuten vanaf de voet van het pad dat naar de top leidt. Op een heldere dag kun je vanaf de top van deze heuvel tot 8 vulkanen zien en de zonsopgang gaat naar buiten achter 8 vulkanen, mooi moment in die tijd. Let op: Totale reistijd is ongeveer 6 uur, dit is de geschatte tijd voor vervoer naar alle locaties van/naar.
Vanaf de top van de Sikunir-heuvel ga je naar het Telaga Warna-meer via de Batu Pandang-heuvel na de zonsopgang van het Dieng-plateau. Telaga Warna Lake, of 'Colourful Lake', bevat water dat kan veranderen in fluctuerende kleuren. Soms kan het groen, paars, geel zijn of zelfs de kleuren van de regenboog aannemen! Dit fenomeen doet zich voor wanneer de zon het water raakt vanwege het hoge zwavelgehalte.
Bezoek de Sikidang-krater, een open zwavelkrater met woeste borrelende modder en brullende stoom. Het speelt zich af in een hobbelig en stoffig landschap dat je het gevoel geeft dat je op de maan bent aangekomen. Je zult zien hoe een lokale persoon eieren kookt in de krater en zwavel neemt.
Arjuna-tempelcomplex, dat tien kleine hindoetempels herbergt die dateren uit de zevende eeuw.

The itinerary was comprehensive and the views were great. Our guide, Deny, was knowledgeable and shared a lot about the stories / background of the places we visited. He also paid a lot of attention to our safety when climbing up and down Sikunir Hill for the sunrise views. While the drive was long, the views and experience made up for it (kudos to our driver, Bayu, for making the drive smooth and enjoyable despite the traffic!). No regrets booking this tour and highly recommend anyone visiting Yogyakarta to try this once!

The waking up early and the long drive is worth the view. This was our third day with the same tour operator and each tour was of the same great level. In this activity, our tour guide was Didik who was beyond helpful. We packed a light jacket and he went out of his way to try and find us a shop to get a ticker one. Didik was not only insightful throughout the whole activity but took us some great photos! He’s also so warm and welcoming, made us feel comfortable throughout. We cannot thank him enough! This activity is a must when you’re in Yogyakarta. My only advice is to wear winter clothes and take a thick jacket since the weather until sunrise is quite cold.

We had a blast with on this excursion! Sigit (our driver) made our experience very comfortable. Although we had to wake up very early in the morning, Sigit’s energy truly kept us going! We were lucky to have a clear day and viewed all 8 volcanoes from the top of Dieng. The lake was very beautiful and the hot springs were a really cool experience. Sigit gave us some great recommendations of local restaurants and things to do around Yogya. He was extremely accommodating and was very helpful to us as his English is great and it was easy to communicate. Great time overall 10/10

Visited 33 years ago when the site was just temples in an open field.Driver Danni helped locate local musician who was playing with a traditional group there that time so I was able to give him his photo with the group . Also photos of the site as it once was. Now it is a major tourist site but is well worth it if you are interested in Indonesian history.

One of the greatest sunrise I have done. Check your weather and make some offerings at shrine for that (pun intended). Driver, Sigit, was punctual, fun and great travel-partner overall if you are solo traveler. The hike to the top of the hill is not-so-much hard, but bring comfy shoes and OUTER (It is COLD, and you need to wait an hour or so to see the rise). Anyway, I would recommend to anyone who love sunrise and a bit of hike. Other visits are also well-designed and give you some more photo-ops.

We had a perfect excursion to Dieng Plateau, which was ca.3 hours drive from our hotel. The sunrise was beautiful, but dress properly, it is quite chilli up there. We had an excellent guide, Atok, who gave answer to all of our questions, and told many interesting things about the country, the sights, about traditions etc. It was really interesting. He not only drove us to the originally planned places, but he bought local fruit, snake fruit for us, and we also visited a Kopi Luwak coffee shop. It was a great experience with him, he did everything, that we enjoy our journey. Thank you!
