Onze Diamond Circle tour vanuit Akureyri bezoekt vele ongelooflijke natuurwonderen van Noord-IJsland in één dag - deze diverse regio bevat veel verborgen juweeltjes en meer bekende lekkernijen. We bezoeken de prachtige watervallen van het gebied. Als eerste is de elegante Godafoss of waterval van de goden. Dettifoss daarentegen is pure rauwe kracht, Europa's krachtigste waterval. We nemen je mee naar het Mývatnmeer en het geothermische gebied Námaskaro, waar de invloed van vulkanische activiteit op het landschap van de regio is. Kokende modderpoelen, warmwaterbronnen, kraters en de geur van zwavel in overvloed. We maken ook een stop bij Asbyrgi canyon, waar een klein bos en meer in het hart van een opmerkelijke hoefijzervormige canyon liggen. Doorschijnende kliffen zweven in alle richtingen. We bezoeken Husavik, een van de mooiste dorpen van IJsland. Bewonder de charmante haven en prachtige kerk in het centrum van de stad. Een heerlijk lunchpakket is bij uw boeking inbegrepen.

Vanuit Akureyri rijden we ongeveer 30 minuten naar onze eerste stop, namelijk naar de prachtige waterval genaamd Godafoss. Bekijk de watervallen vanuit verschillende gezichtspunten en bewandel het pad voor het perfecte fotomoment.
Rijd rond het gebied rond het Myvatn-meer, dat vanaf het beste uitkijkpunt een uniek landschap heeft. Maak een korte fotostop met uitzicht op het meer Mývatn. Geniet van alle majesteit van dit unieke landschap. Tientallen kraters zijn verspreid over het landschap, het resultaat van eeuwenoude vulkaanuitbarstingen.
Dit kale rotsachtige gebied bevat kokende modderpoelen en warmwaterbronnen met overal hangende wolken zwavelzuur. De mineralen uit de geothermische wateren zijn uitgeloogd in de rotsen en de grond hier, wat resulteert in vreemde kleuren.
We stoppen bij Dettifoss, de krachtigste waterval van Europa. De enorme omvang en kracht van Dettifoss is iets om te aanschouwen. Je kunt deze ongelooflijke kracht vanuit verschillende uitkijkpunten aanschouwen
Deze uitgestrekte hoefijzervormige kloof wordt aan 3 zijden begrensd door enorme verticale kliffen die tot wel 100 meter hoog opdoemen. Deze kliffen zijn de thuisbasis van een groot aantal vogels. In de diepste uithoeken van de kloof ligt een idyllische vijver genaamd Botnstjorn.
Een mooie rit van Ásbyrgi naar Húsavík. Dit charmante vissersdorpje is de hoofdstad van IJsland om walvissen te spotten. We zullen die dag geen tijd hebben, maar we hebben wel tijd om de drukte van de centrale haven en een van de mooiste kerken van IJsland te bewonderen. De halte bij Húsavík duurt ongeveer 20 minuten. Húsavík kreeg internationale aandacht nadat hij in de Will Ferrell-film "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" op Netflix speelde. De rit terug naar Akureyri duurt 1 uur, waar je wordt afgezet bij de haven.

Fantastic day experiencing a variety of things Iceland has to offer. Good info about the country, the people, and the history.
We thoroughly enjoyed this full day tour and learned so much. They were very mindful of cruise ship return times and we never once felt worried or hurried. Highly recommended.
Another excellent tour with a great variety of stops that showcased the incredible beauty and diversity of Iceland. Our guide, Sigurjon, did an outstanding job sharing interesting facts about the country’s history, culture, and traditions. What made the tour especially enjoyable was how he connected those stories to his own life, explaining how Iceland has shaped him and his family. Those personal insights made the experience feel authentic and gave us a much deeper appreciation for the places we visited. A sandwich was provided during the tour, and there were also several opportunities to purchase coffee, snacks, and additional food along the way, making it easy to stay comfortable throughout the day. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you have Sigurjon as your guide!
Our Diamond Circle tour was one of the highlights of our trip, and Sven made it truly unforgettable! He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and shared so many interesting facts about Iceland. What really set him apart was his willingness to go above and beyond by making an extra stop so we could see the puffins. Tour was canceled twice by the provider because the cruise ships did not align with the tour schedules. I did not have another day where I could reschedule. This is a cruise port and all tour activities apparently revolve around the scheduling of the cruise passengers. This can eliminate travelers who are not cruise people. It sure did with me.
We had a great time. Our driver was great and our guide kept playing us music! The sandwiches provided were pretty good.
Well organized, good communication even with confusion and delays in getting off ship. One member of our party fell and had to be taken by ambulance but all was handled and the rest of the group was able to continue. Good flexibility for another group member with physical limitations. And, of course, the scenery was amazing!

This was not the original tour we booked but a great substitute. The 3 stops around the lake were all so different and very interesting. Coming from Florida we have nothing like this! Excellent guide who was very knowledgeable.
