Bezoek aan The Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat (openluchtwasserij) Dit is een 138 jaar oude openluchtwasserette. Dit is de weinige overgebleven traditionele commerciële wasserij. De wasmannen staan bekend als Dhobis' ze werken in de open lucht om kleren schoon en droog te maken. Later bezoek aan de sloppenwijken van Dharavi in Mumbai, de DHARAVI, het is een van de meest levendige centra voor extreem ondernemerschap op onze planeet. Dhobi Ghat is een openluchtwasserette in Mumbai, India. De wasmachines, bekend als dhobis, werken in de open lucht om kleding en beddengoed van de hotels en ziekenhuizen in Mumbai schoon te maken. Het werd gebouwd in 1890. Het woord Dhobi Ghat wordt in heel India gebruikt om te verwijzen naar elke plaats waar veel ringen aanwezig zijn.

Gemeenschapscentrum Ons Community Centre, ondersteund door geld van de tour, biedt onderwijs aan Engelsen, computers en levensvaardigheden voor de tieners en jongvolwassenen van Dharavi. Andere activiteiten zoals sporten, dansen en yoga worden ook georganiseerd in onze buurthuizen. Popaddom Making Elke dag wordt er in Dharavi twee ton voedsel geproduceerd en een groot deel daarvan is popadomium, het essentiële voorgerecht of bijgerecht van veel Indiase maaltijden. Ze worden meestal gemaakt door vrouwen in Dharavi in de woonwijken. Kumbharwada aardewerkkolonie De Kumbbharwada-buurt is meer dan 150 jaar oud en is het oudste deel van Dharavi. Ambachtslieden maken verschillende soorten aarden potten die in heel India worden verzonden.

Comprehensive instructions about where to meet. Rakesh the guide arrived and accompanied me throughout. He was very pleasant and very informative.
Brilliant trip, taking in parts of Mumbai which some may opt to miss but in fact were well worth visiting. The laundry was extraordinary : we were taken down into it (as opposed to peering from the street above) and introduced by our guide to a man who had lived and worked there with his family for 40 years. The washing process had to be seen to be believed, likewise the number of families living and working there. We then visited the slum area called Dharavi which was a total eye-opener. Chaotic and huge but safe and we were guided throughout (both Dhobi Ghat and Dharavi) by Dhruvesh who actually lives in Dharavi with his family. He was a credit to the area. This was one of three trips we arranged in Mumbai with the aim of getting an overall view of the city, and we're highly glad we did. Well organised by Trip Advisor.
Great tour of the slums/laundry. Our guide Rakesh was excellent. Went much further into the heart of Dharavi compared to previous tours I have taken. Would definitely recommend.
This Guide is Rakesh, a very good young fellow. There is a lot to tell about the contents of the slums and the inside experience of the laundry. This is a very worthwhile trip and definitely a half-day trip to visit Mumbai you shouldn’t miss out on. Don’t go by yourself, as you may get lost, plus you don’t even know their environment and work process. So we suggest a Guide to take you in. The experience will also be better. Many feelings also want them better.
The Dhobi Ghat was something I had never seen before. I was impressed by how hard these people work, and are very happy to have their jobs. My guide was a resident of Dharavi. He was known by many people as we walked through the area. The tour gave me a different understanding of why the slum exists, and why the residents do not want it demolished.
Impressive and painful at the same time. Difficult to imagine that this is going on in the 21st century - but at least it's up to an acceptable level of being clean.

Rakesh the guide was what made this excursion, his level of knowledge was outstanding, he had a great attitude and you could tell he genuinely enjoyed his job as a guide, when family and friends visit Mumbai I usually arrange a slum tour, this is the third and the. Best I have done, I am really happy to recommend Rakesh as a guide and will use him again myself
