Stap voorbij de krantenkoppen en ontdek het echte Dharavi tijdens onze Dharavi Slum Tour met lokale bewoners die het thuis noemen. Onder leiding van een verantwoordelijke reisorganisatie ondersteunt deze tour direct lokale ontwikkelingsinitiatieven. Bezoekers ervaren een breed scala van deze bedrijfsactiviteiten : recycling, pottenbakken, leerlooien, poppadom maken, enz. We bezoeken ook de woonwijken van Dharavi. Kumbharwada is een van de oudste en meest boeiende gemeenschappen van Dharavi, de thuisbasis van zijn bloeiende aardewerkindustrie. Breng een paar uur met ons door om te leren over de rijke geschiedenis van de gemeenschap en hoe het het middelpunt van aardewerk maken in Mumbai werd. Je ziet waar het materiaal vandaan komt, hoe het wordt bereid, in vorm gegoten en uiteindelijk gebakken. We gaan ook hands-on aan de slag en bezoeken een lokale pottenbakkerswerkplaats – waar we een algemeen overzicht krijgen van het maken van aardewerk en een poging wagen met wielwerpen en het maken van een stukje Kumbharwada-kunst.

Bij velen bekend als 'een van de grootste sloppenwijken in Azië', zien we Dharavi liever als het kloppende hart van Mumbai. Door middel van onze educatieve wandeltochten ervaren bezoekers een breed scala van deze zakelijke activiteiten: recycling, pottenbakken, borduren, bakkerij, zeepfabriek, leerlooierij, poppadom maken en nog veel meer. We zullen ook de woonwijken bezoeken en een glimp opvangen van straatkunst in Dharavi. Mensen uit heel India zijn in Dharavi komen wonen, waardoor het een microkosmos van India is geworden. Deze diversiteit is zichtbaar in de muurschilderingen, tempels, moskeeën, kerken en pagodes die naast elkaar staan.
Gasten kunnen genieten van een frisdrank en meer te weten komen over hoe het geld weer in de gemeenschap wordt geïnvesteerd.

Excellent tour with Bipin. He gave us a very insightful tour allowing us to gain a better understanding of what life is like for people living and working in the Dharavi slum. We saw a mixture of everything and the pottery workshop was a fantastic addition that we would highly recommend.
Excellent tour of Dharavi slum with Chetan. For those who don't know, Reality Tours is the original slum tour, and is run by a charity that provides job education for residents of the slum. So you can get a cultural education and help the people of Dharavi at the same time. The tour takes you through shops and residential areas, and then some of the many "factories" that operate out of Dharavi. You finish up at a pottery workshop where you can try your hand at throwing some jars -- as an experienced potter, the unfamiliar clay and tools made that more of a challenge than I expected. Chetan was very knowledgable about Dharavi (he used to live there) and keen to show all the parts of the "slum". Note that a Mumbai slum isn't like an American slum; it's more like a Mexican maquiladora. Wear very study shoes for this one.

Great tour and great to see that slum doesn’t have to mean crime and poverty. People live full, employed lives, children are educated - but living conditions are so cramped. Wonderful that our tour actually benefits the slum community. Thank you. Highly recommend.
