Het Hosios Loukas-klooster dat "Geachte Sint-Lucas" betekent, werd niet gebouwd ter ere van Lukas de Evangelist, maar werd opgericht door de Griekse monnik Loukas. Hij werd begraven in de crypte van het klooster toen hij stierf in het jaar 953. Een van de meest opvallende aspecten van het klooster is te vinden bij de ingang. Als je omhoog kijkt, zie je een spectaculair gouden mozaïek van de heilige. Gehecht aan de abdij is een grote kerk, Katholikon, die op haar beurt is verbonden met een kleinere tempel, of Theotokos, gebouwd tussen 997 en 1011 ter ere van de Maagd Maria. De tempels zijn prachtig versierd met talloze fresco's en mozaïeken, allemaal perfect bewaard gebleven. Onder de Katholikon is de crypte waar de overblijfselen van de heilige liggen. Hoewel Hosios Loukas kleiner is, doet het gebouw misschien denken aan de Hagia Sophia in Istanbul of de Basiliek van San Marco in Venetië.
In Delphi bezoeken we de bron van Castalia, het oude heiligdom van Apollo, de schatkamer van de Atheners, het oude stadion, het oude theater, de unieke bronzen wagenmenner en het museum. Delphi is zowel een archeologische vindplaats als een moderne stad op de zuidwestelijke helling van de berg Parnassus in de vallei van Phocis. In de Griekse mythologie was het de navel van de aarde, de plaats van het Delphic Oracle en een belangrijke plaats voor de aanbidding van god Apollo nadat hij de Python had gedood, een draak die de navel van de aarde beschermde. Apollo sprak via zijn orakel. De priesteres van het orakel, bekend als de Pythia, moest een oudere vrouw zijn en zat op een driepootstoel boven een opening in de aarde. Apollo bezat Pythia en zij profeteerde. Mensen raadpleegden het Delphic Orakel over alles, van belangrijke kwesties van openbaar beleid tot persoonlijke zaken. Het Orakel oefende aanzienlijke invloed uit in de hele Griekse wereld en overlegde voor alle grote evenementen. In het oude stadion werden de Python Games gehouden, een van de vier Pan-Helleense Spelen die om de vier jaar werden gehouden. We sluiten ons bezoek aan Delphi af met een lunch in een plaatselijk restaurant met uitzicht op de Golf van Itea, gevolgd door een bezoek aan de Tempel van Athena Pronea en het Gymnasium.
Het Archeologisch Museum van Delphi, een van de belangrijkste in Griekenland, toont de geschiedenis van het heiligdom van Delphi, de locatie van het beroemdste oude Griekse orakel. De rijke collecties bestaan voornamelijk uit architectonische sculpturen, standbeelden en kleine voorwerpen die aan het heiligdom zijn geschonken. Deze weerspiegelen zijn religieuze, politieke en artistieke activiteiten vanaf de vroege jaren in de achtste eeuw voor Christus tot het verval in de late oudheid. Het museum is gehuisvest in een gebouw van twee verdiepingen met een totale oppervlakte van 2270 vierkante meter, met veertien tentoonstellingsruimten, 558 vierkante meter opslagruimten en conserveringslaboratoria voor aardewerk, metalen voorwerpen en mozaïeken.
De traditionele stad Arachova ligt op slechts 10 km van Delphi. Een bezoek aan Arachova, onthult de charmante combinatie van het oude met het nieuwe, op de heilige gronden van de berg van Apollo. Arachova is ongetwijfeld de koningin van Parnassos. Het is op een amfitheatrische manier gebouwd en strekt zich prachtig uit naar de zuidelijke hellingen van Parnassus, op een hoogte van 960 meter, en eindigt bij een klif waar de Pleistos rivier stroomt. Arachova is vol leven. De wilde schoonheid in combinatie met zijn ongewijzigde traditionele karakter, zijn kosmopolitische gezicht en de talrijke activiteiten die de majestueuze berg Parnassos biedt, plaatsen het met recht bovenaan het Griekse wintertoerisme en op de lijst met de topbestemmingen voor de andere seizoenen.

Airport Pickup : Uw chauffeur zal u opwachten bij aankomst op de internationale luchthaven van Athene - "Eleftherios Venizelos", bij de douane-uitgang, met een H.P. Tours tekenen met je naam op. Haven pick-up : Uw chauffeur zal u ontmoeten bij de Piraeus Port cruiseschip terminal, met een H.P. Tours tekenen met je naam op. Merk op dat de haven van Piraeus drie terminals heeft, Terminal A, B en C. Afhankelijk van de terminal waar uw schip aanmeert, wacht uw chauffeur u op bij de bijbehorende uitgang. (bijvoorbeeld als uw schip aanmeert bij Terminal A, wacht uw chauffeur u op bij de uitgang van Terminal A enz.) Als uw schip aanmeert bij Terminal B of Terminal C en de bijbehorende uitgangspoort is gesloten, moet u de shuttlebus nemen om naar Terminal A te komen (3 MIN RIDE), waar uw chauffeur op u wacht.

We had such an amazing time, Jimmy was our driver after we had him last summer to go to Epidaurus, Myceneae, and Corinth, as well as a half day going to the Temple of Poseidon at Suenion. Yesterday he took us to Elefsina and Wine Tasting, and then today was to Delphi, Chaironeia, and the monastery church of saint loucas. Jimmy is always the most lovely person, we were so happy to have him again. I would absolutely recommend using this service as we always have the best time!!

Our 5th time with Frank and Panos and coming back for more! This is our 5th time working with Frank and his team at Hellenic Private Tours. From picking up our large group of 10 up at the airport to showing us amazing sites all over Greece in Delphi, Peloponnese and Athens this time they make it so easy to relax on vacation and spend family time together while they take care of everything. The modern sprinter van has WiFi so my kids were amused. They have a sound system and had short movies to explain the sites we were about to visit. They have access to private guides and drivers who know the history and culture of Greece. They know some fantastic local restaurants with too notch food and service and all the little spots that make the experience a memory forever, even for my teenagers. Thank you so much.
