Reisroute

This was a well organized trip. We got picked up on time and taken to another location where we waited for others to join us. We rode in a full size bus but there wasn’t many of us. Our guide gave us a lot of information on the way. We had a snack stop about 2/3 into the trip. The ride was nice. I didn’t realize that it was going to be in two languages so she would speak in English and then again in French. Then when we arrived to Delphi, she took us into the site. It was quite hot by then and speaking in two languages became a bit of an issue because it meant that every time she stopped to talk it took twice as long to deliver the information. We weren’t given enough time to see the whole site. We had to rush to the top to see the stadium then rush back to get to the museum in time for her tour of the museum. Every part of this was good, it was just the timing because of the double description of everything that was tiring. Then we opted out of the lunch and were left in town to find food. We found a cute place but had to rush for a pick up which they were 10 minutes late for. It would have been nice to have a little more time in town. Then we made a quick photo stop outside the city to get a picture- you don’t stop in town like the itinerary suggests. Then back to Athens with one more stop for a bathroom break.
This was an awesome experience, and we highly recommend this tour if you want to get out of Athens, and learn something new! The guide was great.
This was a very long trip but the drive to Delphi was wonderful, alot of historical sights to see along the way which our guide made sure to point out. Delphi was breath taking. The climb up to the temple of Apollo, ancient theater and other sights is a must see. Only downside was that the museum tour felt slightly rushed and we didn't get alot of time to view all the exhibits. The four course meal afterwards was delious.
Delphi is amazing; there's such a sense of weightiness from the waves of myth (Gaia, Pythia, Apollo, Christianity) and its importance in the ancient world. It was therefore such a disappointment that our "licensed guide" did not cover Delphi in adequate detail. They did not even mention the Omphalos! Furthermore, after a brief walk to The Temple of Apollo, the guide decided that the tour was done. The amphitheater and stadium at Delphi are magnificent, and when the group said they wanted to visit, the guide gave us about thirty minutes to cover all of that. We had to racewalk to the top and had no time to take it in before we had to return tot he meeting spot. And then... the guide scheduled less than an hour at the museum... one could spend hours just with the Charioteer alone! I hope this is just a quirk of this one particular guide. Usually guides offer their services, but don't get upset if people want to explore the museum on their own, right? The timing on this tour seemed totally off. We ended up spending upwards of 30 minutes at rest stops and had nearly 1.5 hours for lunch, but were rushed through the stars of the show (the ruins and the museum) in less time. As an Australian member of the group complained, one doesn't fly halfway across the world to be told there's no time to see the amphitheater and stadium at Delphi!
We met at the hotel, took a (24 cap) van along with a small group on a 3 hr ride. AC was not cool enuf (cooler towards the front) and 1 seat belt didn’t work, but otherwise … nice to have WiFi, rest, restroom stop 2 hrs in, tour along the drive. We got there and while little shade it was cooler than Athens & a tad breezy. Uphill hike but left early to seek AC in museum. Then enjoyed guided museum. We got no admission, no lunch & bought our own tickets with the agencies direction. So after site/museum stop they dropped us off at Hotel Delphi & we had a panoramic view and a great lunch for 15 euros/pp. The drive home was also chill WiFi, sleep … NOT touring 5000 steps in sweltering heat . Our tour guide was excellent.
The tour itself is very good. But the pick up and drop off can be much better. We were on the bus for an hour at pick up which took us to a central location where people changed buses for other tours. Drop off too could be better. They should provide an option to be at the location of where the actual bus is departing for the tour. As I said the actual tour at Delphi and tour guide are good. The pick up and drop off added a lot of extra time on the bus.
Very well organized. As informed, the bus came to pick us up on time in the morning at our hotel. Small group and well planned. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Lunch was great.
We had a great time and learned a lot, and recommend you run up to see the stadium. We think more time at the ruins would be great but the crowds would make a leisurely tour impossible. We wanted more time at the museum (could it be possible to offer that vs lunch and pick us up on the way back?). The pre-paid lunch was okay, but the chicken was over-dry. People who ate in town were satisfied with their choice.
The guide for this trip was excellent- lots of knowledge and clear instructions. The only real challenge was right at the beginning of the trip, finding out which bus to get on. There were several groups in an area. Signs would have helped immensely.
You receive a brief overview of Arhens as you leave the city. You will have a short stop going up to Delphi. Once at Delphi there is a climb to where the Oracle met. You did not have to climb up to the stadium that was optional. The tour fascinating. The museum had an extraordinary bull in silver and a beautiful charioteer statute. Lunch was a feast with several courses. The ride back had a brief stop to take pictures of the nearby town and a very short stop for a rest break before you head back to the traffic of Athens. It was an enjoyable excursion, but bring your water if it is hot.
