Deze tour bezoekt twee belangrijke UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocaties die belangrijke aspecten van de oude Griekse geschiedenis laten zien. Begin bij Thermopylae, de beroemde smalle pas waar in 480 v.Chr. koning Leonidas en zijn kleine leger Spartaanse krijgers een legendarische stelling namen tegen het binnenvallende Perzische leger, als voorbeeld van moed en opoffering. Verken vervolgens Delphi, ooit beschouwd als het centrum van de wereld in de oude Griekse cultuur. Op deze heilige plaats ziet u de Tempel van Apollo, waar de Pythia, het orakel, haar profetieën overbracht. Wandel door het oude heiligdom gewijd aan Athena en de schatkamer van de Atheners, die waardevolle offers huisvestte. De rijke archeologische overblijfselen van de site, gecombineerd met een prachtig uitzicht op het omliggende landschap, weerspiegelen het belang van Delphi als een spiritueel, cultureel en intellectueel centrum van de oude wereld. Het Leonidas-monument herdenkt de veldslag in 480 voor Christus waarbij een kleine groep van ongeveer 300 Spartaanse soldaten drie dagen lang een enorm Perzisch leger tegenhield.
Het slagveld van Thermopylae is het landoppervlak waarop de beroemde slag werd uitgevochten in 480 v.Chr. Waar de Spartanen hun laatste standpunt innamen met het lichaam van hun koning Leonidas tegen Xerxes en zijn Perzische leger.
Thermopylae kan vertaald worden als ‘Hot Gates’, een verwijzing naar de vulkanische warmwaterbronnen nabij deze Griekse stad. Direct tegenover het monument van Leonidas van Sparta ligt een vulkanisch gebied met verschillende zwavelwarmwaterbronnen. Volgens de oude Grieken werd aangenomen dat deze bronnen een toegangspoort waren tot de onderwereld (Hades). Het wordt verder in de oude Griekse mythologie genoemd als de plaats waar de Griekse held Heracles het gif van zijn legendarische gevecht met de Hydra afwaste, waardoor de wateren in warmwaterbronnen veranderden.
De Tempel van Apollo is het belangrijkste gebouw in het heiligdom van Apollo in Delphi. In het midden staat de temenos, het meest opvallende kenmerk van de tempel. Het staat bekend om het orakel dat er woonde, waar pelgrims van over de hele wereld naartoe kwamen om hun toekomst te laten vertellen.
De Tholos van Delphi is een van de oude bouwwerken van het Heiligdom van Athena Pronaia in Delphi. Het maakt deel uit van het UNESCO-werelderfgoed Delphi.
Het stadion van Delphi ligt op het hoogste punt van de archeologische vindplaats van Delphi. Het kijkt uit over het heiligdom van Apollo en heeft uitzicht op het Delphische landschap. Het werd gebouwd in de 5e eeuw voor Christus, maar het werd vele malen gereconstrueerd in de eeuwen die volgden.
Het oude theater van Delphi bevindt zich in de tempel van de Pythische Apollo. Het werd gebouwd in de 4e eeuw. BC. en de capaciteit is 5000 toeschouwers.
Het Archeologisch Museum van Delphi is een van de belangrijkste en populairste musea van Griekenland. Het bestaat uit veertien kamers en omvat de wagenmenner van Delphi, de fries van de Siphnian Treasury, de Sfinx van Naxos en andere prachtige artefacten.
Arachova is een bergachtige stad en een voormalige gemeente in het westelijke deel van Boeotië. Het panoramische uitzicht wordt alleen benadrukt door kleine bergopwaarts gelegen huizen, geplaveide straatjes en de algehele pittoreske architectuur.

Definitely a must-book! Greece is so beautiful and has so much history to see, and this helped us put two days worth of touring the country into one without feeling rushed. We had Dimitris as our guide and he was fantastic: great conversation and as a local knew all the history of Thermopylae and Delphi and many other areas along the way. It was amazing to walk the same steps that many others did thousands of years ago and see the monuments built to honor these names like Apollo and King Leonidas that I had heard about from childhood. We even scheduled the day before (definitely not due to my lack of planning) and were contacted by the agency promptly and on the road the next morning at 8 AM. If you're trying to choose between spending a day in Thermopylae or Delphi, or you were trying to find a great way to spend a day in Greece without the hassle of finding transportation to and from, while still getting the same tour experience that you would at the Acropolis, look no further!
Stelios was a fantastic driver and guide. Kind, funny, and shared lots of history and stories with us. He even booked us a reservation for lunch whike we took our Delphi tour so we didn't have to lift a finger. Definitely recommend booking with Stelios!
It was such a fun and informative trip! We got to see our two top sites for this area (Delphi and Thermopylae) and Stelios, our guide, even looked into a spot we were interested in trying to see and was able to give us information that maps couldn’t. He clearly has a passion for what he does and me and my friends were so happy to have him as our guide! He went above and beyond, and even gave us pointers and recommendations on the way back to Athens for another excursion we had planned for later in our trip, and it really made the whole thing even better.
My wife and I had a private tour of Arachova, Delphi and Thermopylae, from 7 to about 4:30. Michalis was a wonderful host, and provided a wealth of information, modern and ancient details of Athenians, the significance of Delphi, and the major historical conflicts. The car was very comfortable and clean, and Michalis was flexible, fun and very polite. He had planned out the stops to stay in front of the inevitable bus tours/lineups, and was very communicative (through WhatsApp, etc.). He planned out a lunch stop (not included) in the town of Delphi which was a spectacular location and great food. Quick stop at Thermopylae but hey there isn't much there and we didn't need to stay long - I needed to go onto the last stand hill, for my own soul's sake. He had extra details on each site in a booklet, which was all that we needed. You may want more info if you are a history major but if you aren't then I think there is sufficient info. He even gave us a quick tour of Athens downtown hotspots on our way back into town. What a great day, thank you!!
I have to say that the driver Michael was great and gave us some excellent tips during the tour, his driving was great as well as punctuality! I gave a 4 star because the itinerary is a bit too dragged out, whereas the visit to village Arachova was very picturesque, Delphi town was great and an excellent spot for lunch, I am not sure if the archeological sit was worth it. The leoniadas museum and Thermopyle visit you should do only if you are an absolute fan of the legend like me, or else there is not much to see there
This was an incredible tour! Our guide, Michalis, was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of great historical information on the sites we were visiting. The car was extremely clean and comfortable, and we had a wonderful time on this tour.
Our guide Stelios picked us up from the hotel very punctually. On the way to Delfi (and later) he told us a lot of interesting stories about the history of Greece, the battles with the Persians and about the background of Delfi with the Oracle. That was really very entertaining and we think he could have told many more stories if we had wanted to. We filled ourselves very well. His driving style was also such that as a "passenger" you always felt safe and relaxed. About the tour: Delfi was very interesting. We followed the advice of Stelios and first visited the museum and then the archaeological site. This allows you to imagine some things better due to the exhibits and explanations in the museum in the excavation area. Whether you have to integrate thermopylae into the Tour, I think is worthy of discussion because of the long journey time. If necessary, a different combination, for example with the channel of Corinth or the like, would be more appropriate, provided that this runs out in time. Nevertheless, we really liked the tour.
I had an absolutely wonderful tour today! My driver was Michalis who did an amazing & fantastic job, starting from the accommodation, to the narration and the driving as well! It was definitely a great experience and I am happy and very grateful that Michalis took all the time to show me around his beautiful country!
