De 20e eeuw bevat een van de droevigste bladzijden uit de Litouwse geschiedenis. In deze tour ervaar je de adembenemende Litouwse vrijheidsgeest tijdens de moeilijke en donkere tijden van de Sovjetbezetting. In de authentieke voormalige KGB-gevangenis zie je de echte werktuigen van Sovjet-onderdrukking, hoor je deuren piepen van pijn, ruik je de kou van martelende harten. Word uitgenodigd om in de voetsporen van het Litouwse verzet te treden en voel de Litouwse vrijheidsdrang met blote handen en liederen verdedigd worden tegen de wreedheid van de Sovjettanks. De tour begint in het centrum van Vilnius. U zult zien : • Lukiskesplein; • Lukiškių gevangenis; • Litouws parlement (Seimas); • KGB Museum.

Een van de belangrijkste pleinen van Vilnius, in de tijd van de Sovjet-Unie bekend als het plein van Lenin. Tegenwoordig is dit plein op moderne wijze gereconstrueerd en staat er geen standbeeld van Lenin meer
We pauzeren buiten de Lukiškių gevangenis, ooit een tsaristische gevangenis en later een KGB holding site, nu een culturele ruimte die nog steeds het gewicht van de geschiedenis draagt.
De tour gaat verder langs het Litouwse parlement (Seimas), een symbool van herstelde onafhankelijkheid en het toneel van de trotserende stand van het land tijdens de januari-evenementen van 1991.
Ervaar de Litouwse geest van verzet met een lokale gids. In het KGB Museum vind je veel over de moeilijke werkelijkheid na de Tweede Wereldoorlog tijdens de Sovjetbezetting. Veel aanbiedingen en verliezen baanden de weg naar de vrijheid van Litouwen.

It was a very informative tour which covered the city’s history and showed us important places, sights and landmarks. The guide was very knowledgeable and had a passion for what he was telling us.

It was ok. Spent the majority of the time in other parts of the city rather than the museum. The guide walked very fast, only a few of the 12(?) people could keep up. Tired by the time we got to the actual museum. The prison brought us to first was more interesting than the KGB building. The trip advisor meeting location was off. You have to go to the bottom of the ticket to find the actual location, if you go to the Waze or Apple Maps you will be off by 2-3 blocks.

A very informative tour of the ‘KGB Prison’ and surrounding area. Thomas, our guide, was knowledgable and able to explain the complex and sensitive history Lithuania and Vilnius in particular. He encouraged questions and was keen for us all to learn about his country. We enjoyed hearing about the Lithuania parliament too. A brief but informative (and hard hitting) tour!

Hidden away in a rather ordinary building. A sobering reminder of how far Lithuania has come in the last 35+ years since occupation. The somewhat cramped rooms, only helped to reinforce how oppressive things must have been here at that time. Would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Vilnius.
