Picasso had een diepe passie voor Barcelona, en deze tour is ontworpen om u te laten zien waarom. Hij arriveerde in 1895 op slechts 13-jarige leeftijd in de stad. Hier beleefde hij zijn eerste jeugdige avonturen met vrienden – degenen die zijn buitengewone talent voor het eerst herkenden – en ontdekte hij de verborgen geneugten van het nachtleven van de stad. In Barcelona vestigde Picasso zijn eerste atelier en maakte hij zijn vroegste gravures en illustraties. Hier hield hij zijn allereerste tentoonstelling in het legendarische restaurant Els Quatre Gats. Op zijn 22e verhuisde Picasso naar Parijs en keerde nooit definitief terug, maar Barcelona bleef altijd de duizelingwekkende stad die zijn jeugd inspireerde en de geest van de moderniteit aan hem onthulde.

De Porxos d´en Xifré is een historisch gebouw van Barcelona dat na vier jaar werken in 1840 werd ingehuldigd. Het bezet het blok gevormd door de Passeig d'Isabel II, de Pla de Palau en de straten van Reina Cristina en Llauder, percelen die in 1834 werden verstedelijkt als gevolg van de sloop van de zeewering. Het gebouw verscheen als eerste in daguerreotypie, gedaan in Spanje en is versierd met maçonnieke symbolen. Maar wist je dat het de eerste plaats was waar Picasso woonde toen zijn familie naar Barcelona verhuisde? Het exacte punt waar de familie van Picasso woonde, was de huidige nummer 4 van de Passeig d'Isabel II, waar voorheen een pension was geweest.
De Fine Arts School (Escola de Llotja) besloeg de bovenste verdieping van het gebouw In 1895 ging Picasso naar de School voor Schone Kunsten (Escola de Llotja) in het neoklassieke gebouw dat bereikbaar was vanaf Carrer del Consolat del Mar. De Handelscommissie richtte de Fine Arts School op de bovenste verdieping op, waar veel kunstenaars studeerden, beide van Catalonië en degenen die tijdelijk in Barcelona woonden.
Het Picasso-museum is een belangrijke referentie voor het begrijpen van de vormende jaren van Pablo Picasso. Het genie van de jonge kunstenaar wordt onthuld door de 4.251 werken die deel uitmaken van de permanente collectie. De Sala Parés in Carrer Petritxol, die zich destijds bezighielden met modernistische kunst, toonden in 1901 een reeks pasteltekeningen van Picasso samen met Ramon Casas.
Els Quatre Gats, op 3-jarige leeftijd, Carrer Montsió, was de taverne opgericht door Pere Romeu, Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Miquel Utrillo en anderen in 1897, in navolging van het Parijse cabaret van Rodolphe Salis, Le Chat Noir, met als doel bijeenkomsten te houden voor artiesten, als concert- en tentoonstellingsruimte, en voor poppenspel en schaduwspel. Het pand bevond zich op de begane grond van een mooi gebouw ontworpen door Puig i Cadafalch en het adverteerde als een "gotische bierzaal voor liefhebbers van het noorden en een Andalusische binnenplaats voor degenen die van het zuiden houden". De bar zelf was in de kleinere kamer, met twee grote foto's van Casas op een prominente positie en reclameposters, waarvan er één voor het menu was en door Picasso was geschilderd. De tentoonstellingen en concerten werden gehouden in de grotere zaal.

Tour cancelled less than 24 hours before with no other option for return flight time. That doesn't sound professional. Knowing that before, could we have turned to someone else? For reimbursement? I have to go straight to the museum that sold me tickets and tours at a high price. Not recommended

From the moment we met him outside an enchanting old coffee shop, we were whisked away on a magical journey through Picasso's world. He knew more about the artist than Picasso's own mother and made sure we understood the profound stories behind every brushstroke. First up, we strolled past the apartment where the young Picasso nurtured his talent. Jordi painted vivid pictures with his words, bringing the neighborhood's history to life – it was as if we were stepping right into one of Picasso's canvases. We even saw the college where Picasso’s dad taught – talk about art in the family! The grand finale was a captivating tour of the Picasso Museum. With tales that only a true art aficionado could share, he revealed secrets hidden in plain sight. We left feeling like we had dined on a banquet of artistic knowledge, leaving no stone (or canvas) unturned. As the cherry on top of this incredible experience, we ended our day at a café where Picasso would meet fellow artists. The ambiance was electric; it was like sipping espresso with the ghosts of creativity past! After Barcelona, we ventured to Madrid’s Prado Museum, where Velázquez's Las Meninas took our breath away, but honestly, without our prelude at the Picasso Museum, we might have missed the entire story of Spanish art! In summary: This tour was a masterpiece in itself—A+++! If you love art and want a tour that feels like a brush with greatness, don’t miss this unique experience. The tour guide is really what makes a great experience here. Adriano showed true passion for Picasso and the museum. He shared useful historical info that flowed the artist and his work in very well. We really enjoyed this tour! We ended at the 4 Gatos restaurant and the drinks were included! The food was so very good also, so very grateful for this experience! Highly suggested!

Wonderful private tour experience. Olga was a Picasso expert and shared so many interesting details and context that you would normally never get from a standard guide. She was warm and funny but mostly so deeply knowledgeable in Picasso's youth and training, his family conflicts, and the shift to cubism in his later life. So ironic that because of Franco's fascist anti-intellectual, anti-artist policies the man couldn't even oversee the milestone of his life — his museum in Barcelona. Would absolutely recommend this tour.
