De verborgen oude wijkervaring van Hanoi

Stap in de ziel van Hanoi door de oude wijk, een levendig doolhof met meer dan duizend jaar geschiedenis. Hier lijkt de tijd te vertragen als oude straten, drukke markten en tijdloze tradities je naar een andere wereld brengen. U kunt verwachten om de prachtige, de goede, de slechte, en de schokkende delen van Hanoi te zien. Vanaf de hoogste skyline bar krijg je een overzicht en gevoel van de geschiedenis van Vietnam. Ga vervolgens naar beneden om het kleine steegje, de Ta Hien bierhoek, een lokale tempel, een donutwinkel die door een familie wordt beheerd, het verborgen uitzicht op de Dong Xuan-markt en de Long Bien-brug te zien om te begrijpen hoe het verkeer werkt (als je in de war bent over hoe mensen hier kunnen rijden). Er zullen veel verhalen zijn om mee naar huis te nemen!

In het midden van de oude wijk, is de Bach Ma-tempel een van de oudste en heiligste tempels in de stad, die oorspronkelijk werd gesticht in de 9e eeuw. De vertaling van Bach Ma is White Horse en dit verwijst naar een verhaal achter de bouw van de Tempel. Koning Ly Thai To had moeite om de tempel te bouwen terwijl de muren steeds maar instortten. Er wordt gezegd dat een wit paard het beste gebied afbakende om de tempel te bouwen met zijn hoeven om de koning te helpen bij het bouwen van de tempel. Als je de tempel betreedt via een aantal oude houten deuren, kun je het prachtig versierde interieur en een roodgelakte begrafenisdraagstoel zien. In de tempel vind je een standbeeld van het witte paard, een heiligdom voor Confucius en een Phoenix-altaar voor offers aan de vier seizoenen. De Bach Ma-tempel wordt nog steeds actief gebruikt door gelovigen die hier komen om wierook te branden en te bidden.
Long Bien Bridge is een unieke architectuur voor altijd met ups en downs van de hoofdstad van Hanoi en is een van de symbolen van de stad geworden. De brug is niet alleen een verkeersconstructie, maar ook een levend historisch overblijfsel. Tijdens de Franse en Amerikaanse oorlogen heeft Long Bien Bridge vele historische momenten meegemaakt. Lange Bien-brug werd gebouwd van 1989 tot 1902 tijdens de Franse bezetting van het land. Niet veel mensen weten dat, met een lengte van meer dan 2 km, de Long Bien-brug de op een na langste brug ter wereld was, net na de Brooklyn Bridge uit Amerika. Interessant is dat de Long Bien-brug de enige brug in Hanoi is waarmee toeristen een wandeling langs het treinspoor kunnen maken, wat desserts kunnen proeven of verse groente of vis kunnen kopen bij de verkopers op de brug. Wat meer is, bezoekers die naar Hanoi kwamen, zeiden dat de Long Bien-brug de beste plek is om naar de zonsondergang te kijken en een aantal mooie foto's te maken.
Dong Xuan-markt werd in 1889 opgericht door de Fransen en vernoemd naar de locatie. In die tijd was de markt een gunstige handelsplaats, vooral nadat de Fransen de Long Bien-brug hadden gebouwd. Je weet misschien niet, elke oude straat in Hanoi is vernoemd naar hun oorspronkelijke bedrijf, die vervolgens werden verwijderd naar de Dong Xuan-markt onder de Franse overheersing. Dat is de reden waarom alle namen zijn gestart met het woord Hang (betekent Product) en het volgende woord is wat ze verkopen: Hang Ca verkoopt vis (Ca betekent vis) etc.

Kien was an excellent guide! His personal knowledge of Vietnam history and culture mixed well with his time living in USA and Ireland. English was excellent so he understood question right off. We started tour with a beautiful view of the city from a rooftop lounge, then inside for cold iced coffee and history lesson (sitting in the air conditioning!). We walked to a few interesting places including a tiny alley to see how some live in Hanoi. Kien described culture of "shop roads" and "fake paper" -- things that you wouldn't know just by walking the old Quarter. Highest rating for this walking tour and Kien as our guide!!

We had such an interesting and enjoyable tour with Angelina. It was our first day in Hanoi and it gave us a great starting point for understanding the city and history. Dung was a great guide. Her English was excellent, and she was very friendly and open. I felt I had the opportunity to learn more about how people reallly live, as well as some history/orientation. My only disappointment was that the sites and markets were closed for the 6pm tour, which was NOT clarified for me. Had I known, I probably would have done a different tour. Still, I enjoyed the chat and opportunity to see the city at night with a local. Plus, Dung bought me a treat of delish donuts! I bet the earlier tours are super.

Nice guide that gave us an ok guide of Vietnam and Hanoi. Recommend tours where they have a microphone, as the guide spoke a little low and there is a lot of noise in the streets of Hanoi.
