We vertrekken wel vanuit de historische wijk van Rome, Borgo genaamd. De gids maakt een inleiding tot Vaticaanstad en laat je geheime doorgangen van de paus zien.
Het Sint-Pietersplein in is een van de beroemdste (en zeker een van de heiligste!) bezienswaardigheden ter wereld. Het werd in de 17e eeuw ontworpen door Gian Lorenzo Bernini, die destijds bekend stond als de meest getalenteerde architect van Rome. Paus Alexander VIII, die de piazza opdracht gaf, vroeg Bernini om het belang van St. Peter als "de poort naar de hemel" te benadrukken en de architect voerde het verzoek prachtig uit. Hij verdeelde het plein in een kleiner trapeziumvormig gebied grenzend aan de basiliek en een ovaal hoofddeel, die samen een plattegrond vormen in de vorm van een gigantisch sleutelgat.
Het uitzicht vanaf de top van de Sint-Pieterskoepel wordt wijd en zijd geprezen als het beste panorama van Rome. - De Sint-Pietersbasiliek is een actieve parochie en daarom onderhevig aan last-minute sluitingen vanwege mis of andere religieuze gebeurtenissen. In deze gevallen wordt de tour geannuleerd en volledig terugbetaald.
- De touroperator koopt voorrangstickets voor alle gasten. Houd er rekening mee dat de skip-the-line ingang door de beveiliging moet, wat ook 20 minuten kan duren. De normale rij duurt uren om naar binnen te gaan.
- Alle deelnemers MOETEN hun knieën en schouders bedekken tijdens bezoeken aan religieuze plaatsen. U kunt het risico lopen de toegang te worden geweigerd als u zich niet aan deze kledingvereisten houdt.
- Het terras van de koepel is mogelijk niet toegankelijk tijdens slechte weersomstandigheden. In dat geval kunt u ofwel een gedeeltelijke terugbetaling vragen en de Basiliek en de grotten bezoeken of besluiten om de tour te annuleren voor een volledige terugbetaling.
- Wij raden aan om comfortabele wandelschoenen te dragen.
- Houd er rekening mee dat u bij de ingang van het plein door metaaldetectoren moet.
- De Vaticaanse Necropoli maakt geen deel uit van deze tour.
- We zijn niet in staat om tegemoet te komen, terug te betalen of te verzetten late aankomsten.
- Kinderwagens zijn niet toegestaan in de Basiliek. Bij de ingang van de basiliek is een schadeborg voor bagage aanwezig waar u de kinderwagen kunt achterlaten.
- Geef de volledige namen van alle reizigers bij het boeken. De tickets zijn nominatief, daarom kan het niet tonen van een voucher met de volledige naam van alle reizigers leiden tot toegangsweigering.
- Elke reiziger moet een geldig identiteitsbewijs (of een foto van genoemd identiteitsbewijs) tonen dat overeenkomt met dezelfde naam die bij de boeking is verstrekt voor een succesvolle toegang.
- LET OP : In het geval dat de grotten of bepaalde gebieden van de Sint-Pietersbasiliek gesloten zijn, zal uw Gids de route aanpassen door alternatieve locaties en kunstwerken binnen de basiliek te markeren. Hierdoor blijven de totale duur en kwaliteit van de tour ongewijzigd.

When my wife and I were planning our "bucket list" trip to Rome the top of our to do list was a visit to The Vatican. Having looked at many options for guided tours we came across the What a Life Tours "Best of the Best " 3 hour small group tour which seemed to fit everything we wanted to do - skip the queues, visit the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica. Our tour was canceled right when our group was ready to leave. It was frustrating and certainly messed up our travel schedule, but the company did issue a refund the next day.
