De meeste tourproducten bieden slechts één site met de naam Baoding, deze uitbreidingstour omvat zowel 2 locaties in Dazu-Baoding als Beishan. De Beishan-site staat minder bekend om zijn geïsoleerde ligging, en de meeste reisorganisaties zouden het afsnijden voor een lagere prijs, en de meeste lokale gidsen waren niet opgeleid voor deze site. We halen onze reizigers op in hun hotels en rijden vervolgens naar Dazu County. Geniet van een rit van ongeveer 2 uur door het platteland van Chongqing en ga vervolgens naar de Baoding-site, het grootste deel van Dazu Carvings. Dazu-rotstekeningen zijn een enorm oud Buddhsim-steenhouwwerk dat werd gebouwd in de Song-dynastie, 800 jaar oud. Meer dan 10.000 beelden werden uitgehouwen op een verticale klif, die vrijwel de Chinese oude religieuze kunststijl en snijvaardigheid vertegenwoordigt. Ondertussen fungeert het ook als een boeddhistisch instituut en een heilige plaats die gebeden en verlossing brengt voor alle boeddhisten. In 1999 werden Dazu-rotsgravures door UNESCO op de Werelderfgoedlijst geplaatst. Ga dan naar het centrum van Dazu en haal willekeurig een lokaal restaurant op voor de lunch, een geweldige kans om de echte lokale smaak te proberen, pittige zoetwatervis zou een interessante optie zijn. Lunch is voor ons.
De toelating van deze site valt al onder dat conbinatieticket. Beishan Rock Carvings is een secundaire site van Dazu Carvings, ouder dan de Baoding-site. De meeste toeristen zullen hier niet zijn omdat het een beetje geïsoleerd is. Goede dingen is dat Beishan een rustige en stille plek maakt, omringd door plantages en vogels. Reizen kunnen een ontspannen wandeling maken tussen al deze verbazingwekkende oude gravures en genieten van al deze kunst en frisse lucht. Voor die cultuurhistorische studenten zou dit je hele wereld zijn.
Daarna maken we een kleine wandeling door het land, gaan we op de top van een kleine heuvel in de buurt, verkennen we een oude boeddhistische pogada en een tweeling-gigantische Boeddha, beide meer dan 800 jaar oud. Deze site zal niet door alle reisgroepen worden bezocht, we zullen waarschijnlijk de enige bezoekers in de buurt zijn, onze reizigers kunnen er genieten van frisse lucht en een vredige, vreugdevolle wandeling.
Rijd helemaal terug naar Chongqong. Reizigers kunnen ervoor kiezen om deze tour te beëindigen in hun hotel of op een andere gespecificeerde locatie.

Legend was a great tour guide. My 13-year-old said Legend didn’t seem like a tour guide. It felt like we were touring with a friend. The ride was very safe and comfortable. We learned so much. Lunch was delightful. I especially liked the second part where the carvings were older. Thank you for a great experience! I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in the Dazu Ancient Rock Carvings.
ITA: My husband and I visited the Dazu and Baoding Mountain Carved Stone sites with our guide Legend (宫立劲). The guide picked us up from our hotel promptly at the time agreed upon the previous day. His car was new, very clean, and comfortable. Legend was always kind, helpful, and attentive to our needs. His English is much more than fluent and correct, which allowed us to communicate easily throughout the day. He accompanied us throughout the visit and provided us with detailed and interesting explanations about the two sites, allowing us to better understand their history and significance. For our lunch break, he took us to a local restaurant, where we tried a version of hot pot very different from the one we had seen up to that point, prepared with vegetables, tofu, and river fish. It was a very pleasant experience from a gastronomic point of view as well. At the end of the day, he took us back to the center of Chongqing and, as we requested, dropped us off at a different location than our hotel. It was a wonderful experience: we were able to visit these marvelous sculptures at our own pace, without rushing, accompanied by a patient, competent, and always available guide. Must do in Chongqing! Legend contacted me shortly after booking with contact info and pick up instructions. He was very puntual. Car was perfect and 2hr drive went by very fast. Legend shared A LOT of information not only about Dazu but also China, which was fascinating for us. We’re not English native speakers, so his perfect American accent made it so easy for us to understand. Lunch was AMAZING! Delicious hot pot. And both sites visited were truly wonderful. Would do it again and recommend it!
Enjoyed our tour very much! Legend is very knowledgeable and keen on sharing all about the history of the Dazu rock carvings. The lunch spot was great, with locally sourced ingredients, and since we weren't really into the hot pot meat, we had tofu instead - equally tasty! We plan on visiting China again and will definitely be booking a tour with Legends once more!

The sculptures carved in stones are very interesting and are preserved despite the time. The guide included a delicious and healthy traditional meal with a local family. We were lucky to have Legend as our driver-guide again for this tour. Dazu has magnificent carvings, which we appreciated all the more because of Legend’s deep knowledge of Buddhism and local history. Lunch was again very tasty - this time it was a local fish hotpot. Definitely would recommend.
Legend was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a fantastic experience of the Dazu Rock Carvings. He took us through a secret path to avoid queues and tourist traps. The car we were driven in was quite comfortable. As for the lunch, we went to a small family owned place and tried hot pot for the first time.
