Tiger Hill is het hoogste punt in het Darjeeling-gebied. Een vroege ochtendtrip om getuige te zijn van de zonsopgang is een must. Het is werkelijk spectaculair om te zien hoe de opkomende zon de kolossale bergketen Kanchenjunga van besneeuwde bergtoppen in een gloed van snel veranderende kleuren bestrijkt.Tiger Hill maakt nu deel uit van een natuurreservaat waarvan de weilanden geschikt zijn voor picknicks. Maak vanaf Tiger Hill een kleine wandeling bergafwaarts om de Sincheal-tempel te bezoeken, gewijd aan de hindoegodheid Durga.
De historische trein maakt een bocht van 360 graden bij deze gigantische spoorweglus op bijna 5 kilometer van de stad. Gebouwd om de stoomtrein te helpen over het steile terrein te rijden. Batasia Loop is strategisch gelegen en biedt een panoramisch uitzicht op de berg daarachter. Binnen de lus ligt een oorlogsmonument dat de dappere zielen herdenkt die sinds 1947 hun leven hebben verscheurd in verschillende oorlogen in India. Grenzend aan het monument is een lokale markt waar bezoekers portemonnees, tassen en andere decoratieve items kunnen kopen.
Net onder het treinstation van Ghoom, ongeveer 8 km, weg van de stad Darjeeling, ligt Yiga Choling, het grootste van Darjeeling's "Drie Klooster". Gebouwd in 1875 door Lama Sherab Gyatso, zijn de inhoud afbeeldingen van boeddhistische goden en lama's, zoals Chen Rezig de boeddhist van mededogen en Tsongkhapa de oprichter van de Geluvpa-sekte. Het klooster bevat ook een enorme 15-voet afbeelding van Jampeyang, de Boeddha van de toekomst. Een grote verzameling liturgische teksten omvat de 108_volume Kangyur, het Tibetaans boeddhistische kanon.
Darjeeling Zoo staat bekend om de zeldzame rode panda's, waar men ze in hun natuurlijke habitat kan zien. Het herbergt ook diverse zeldzame soorten zoals Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep, Siberian Tiger, Black Bear, die je misschien niet samen op één plek kunt zien.
De kabelbaan vertrekt van Singamari naar de vallei van Tukvar Tea Estate.
The Rock is vernoemd naar Tenzing Norgay, een van de eerste klimmers van de Mount Everest. Men kan proberen de rots te beklimmen om hun kracht te controleren en de opwinding van adrenaline te voelen. Zo niet, dan kun je getuige zijn van de verschillende klimmers die hun geluk beproeven bij het veroveren van de rots.
Onder de verschillende theeplantages die in en rond Darjeeling aanwezig zijn, zijn de beroemde Happy Valley en Chitrey Tea Garden. Chitrey Tea Garden is gespecialiseerd in verschillende theestruiken. Je kunt het hele bereik van de berg Kanchenjunga zien terwijl je tussen de theestruiken zit en nipt aan de beroemde Darjeeling-thee.
De Japanse Vredespagode is opgericht door volgelingen van de Nipponzan Myohoji, een Japanse boeddhistische orde. De pagode is het hoogste vrijstaande bouwwerk in de stad, en de avatars van Boeddha in de buurt van de pagode is de Nipponzan Myohoji-tempel, die is gebouwd in een traditionele Japanse stijl en bezoekers een plek biedt voor rust en introspectie. Bezoeker kan mediteren en communiceren met de Japanse monniken en fotografie is toegestaan in de tempel.
Het bevindt zich op het terrein van het zoölogisch park en herbergt veel verschillende soorten kevers, slangen, vogels, dieren enz.
Het Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (TRSHC), gevestigd in Lebong en plaatselijk bekend als Hermitage, werd opgericht op 2 oktober 1959. Zhu Dan richtte dit centrum op in 1959 met fondsen die werden ingezameld door lokale liefdadigheidsinstellingen (vrouw van Gyalo Thondup). Aanvankelijk bood de faciliteit noodhulp aan Tibetaanse vluchtelingen die de gevaarlijke reis door de Himalaya naar India hadden gemaakt. Voor Tibetanen had de heuvel een speciale betekenis omdat de Dertiende Dalai Lama zijn ballingschap in India had doorgebracht van 1910 tot 1912, na de Chinese invasie van Tibet in die tijd. Het centrum werd opgericht als een liefdadigheidsorganisatie onder de wet van de Indiase regering. Het centrum begon met slechts vier werknemers en biedt nu onderdak aan 130 Tibetaanse families. Het centrum is betrokken geweest bij een verscheidenheid aan activiteiten, waaronder handwerk, ambachtelijke training en ambachtslieden.
Het Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is niet alleen een van de beste bergbeklimscholen ter wereld, maar heeft ook veel toeristen getrokken vanwege de prachtige locatie in Darjeeling, een heuvelstation. Dit instituut biedt een werkelijk boeiend perspectief op Kanchenjunga, de derde hoogste berg ter wereld, oplopend tot een hoogte van 8586 meter. Het museum van het Himalayan Climbing Institute verwelkomt jaarlijks tot 500.000 bezoekers die de tentoonstellingen komen bekijken die de kunst, cultuur en vooruitgang in de klimsport eren. Een panorama van het leven in de Himalaya, Mount Everest Expedition en Mountaineering History vormen de drie afdelingen van het museum. Met de prachtige Kanchenjunga op de achtergrond staat deze bovenop een klein voetstuk in het midden van het instituut.

It is very difficult to see the vast expanse of Darjeeling, India and its winding and hilly roads without a car, and so the Darjeeling Full Day tour is just what you need to see this beautiful part of the India and the Himalayas. Mr Abhishek organised the tour and my tour guide/driver was Rajat. They were very nice and eager to show you the sights of Darjeeling. You will be taken by car to various temples, the war memorial and Darjeeling Himalayan Railway train interchange, the Tiger Hill observatory, the Darjeeling Zoo, the Happy Valley tea factory, and a particular treat - the Tibet refugee site - where I learned invaluable information on the history of Tibetan refugees in Darjeeling. The tour really does give you a great overview of Darjeeling in one day. I highly recommend it!
