Na uw vrije tijd om te genieten van de stad en haar prachtige zonnige stranden, keert u terug naar de weg voor uw reis terug naar Agadir met weer een paar stops onderweg om uit te rusten en de zonsondergang te bekijken op een wild strand.

Maak tijdens een eendaagse trip kennis met de unieke geschiedenis, cultuur en het erfgoed van Essaouira. Een bezoek aan de medina van Essaouira biedt een charmant kleurrijk landschap van de Marokkaans-Portugese stijl tot de Grote Moskee, terrassen, cafés en de souk. Deze oude Portugese stad stond in 2001 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO in Marokko. Onze tour begint met een rit van een paar uur door het Atlasgebergte, met een paar stops onderweg: de eerste stop is om enkele "vliegende geiten" te zien klimmen in de arganbomen op zoek naar verse noten. De tweede stop is om te ontspannen en een koffiepauze te houden in een Berberdorp. Derde stop om de Argan Oil-fabriek te bezoeken. Zodra we aankomen in Essaouira, heb je je vrije tijd om de souk te bezoeken die zich in de medina bevindt. En maak een rondleiding door de wallen van de Kasbah en Scala, waar je de wallen van de Scala, de haven van Essaouira, de gemeentelijke markt, de buurtjuweliers en het ambachtscomplex zult verkennen.
De Sqala du Port werd gebouwd in 1769, in opdracht van sultan Mohammed Ben Abdellah, van de Alaouite-dynastie. Het Castelo Real was daar en werd verwoest voor de bouw van de haven van Essaouira en zijn wallen. De stenen van het oude Castelo Real werden gebruikt voor de bouw van de Sqala du Port2. Ze nam deel aan de verdediging van de stad tijdens het bombardement van Mogador, uitgevoerd door Frankrijk, in het kader van de Frans-Marokkaanse oorlog3. Het is geclassificeerd als een historisch monument sinds de dahir van 30 augustus 19241.
De haven van Essaouira is een belangrijke traditionele en historische vissershaven uit de 18e eeuw, in Essaouira, aan de Atlantische Oceaan, Marokko1. Oude en pittoreske traditionele vissershaven, de meest bekende van het land2, het is een van de 14 belangrijkste vissershavens in Marokko en een van de topbestemmingen voor toerisme in Marokko, met zijn stranden en de nabijgelegen versterkte medina van Essaouira aan de rand van de oceaan, opgenomen op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO3.
De wallen van Essaouira vormen een belangrijk onderdeel van de geschiedenis van Essaouira, een Marokkaanse maritieme stad aan de oevers van de Atlantische Oceaan. In 1506 bouwden de Portugezen de eerste wallen van de stad, die toen Mogador heette en die als een belangrijke strategische locatie werd beschouwd. Naast deze wallen werd er ook een haven gebouwd, Mogador werd toen een belangrijke handelspost voor de Portugezen. De bouw van het fort, door de Portugezen Castelo Real genoemd, en zijn wallen hebben als belangrijkste doel zichzelf te beschermen tegen buitenlandse invasies, omdat de stad zonder hen te kwetsbaar is. Zo maakten de wallen het mogelijk om de opeenvolgende aanvallen op de stad door de Spanjaarden, de Engelsen, de Nederlanders en de Fransen af te slaan. Deze wallen, evenals het Castelo Real, zullen in de 18e eeuw worden vernietigd door Mohammed III, de toenmalige Marokkaanse sultan.

Great safe driver on the winding roads up the coast. I was pleased I'd taken an anti-sickness tablet prior to setting off though. We had the same guide as the Marrakech trip (Abdullah) so there was some repetition of information on the bus. At least a smaller number of people this time. We had a stop off at a petrol station for WC (take your own paper or you will have to pay for it). Then we stopped at an argan oil women's co-operative which was a very slick operation. The centre of Essaouria was beautiful and easy to navigate. We had a basic guided tour through the medina and souk and were allowed 10 mins on the city walls. We would have preferred to then have been given free time to find our own lunch and have a wander around as so many lovely little eateries in the town but we were herded without any choice into the worst touristy restaurant and expected to eat a full meal. We then realised half the people had disappeared to do their own thing! I strongly suggest you remove what comes across as an obligatory lunch from this tour.

Our tour guide Abdul may looked very traditional but he was very cool. We learned a lot about Essaouira, it’s history and culture. The drive was a bit long around 6 hours in total. Wear good shoes and be prepared with unpleasant smell in some places included in the tour.

A city worth seeing. Picked up from the hotel on time in the morning, a total of 12 hours on the road with a pleasant rhythm of breaks. Tour guide with just the right amount of information on the way and during the city tour, not too much and not too little, easy to understand in French, English and German. Of course there was also a stop on the topic of argan oil, but nothing was pushy. I would have liked more free time for my own discoveries and photos, unfortunately I went to eat at the recommended restaurant. The food was good, the price was reasonable, but it took 1.5 hours, so there was only 30 minutes of free time. A shame, but a reason to come back?!

I was excited about this trip, the journey was shorter than to Marrakesh, in the morning the coordinator arrived at the hotel for us and loaded us into a Škoda Superb (nice to drive a Czech car in Morocco) and took us to the other side of the city, where we changed to a minibus. The journey went quickly and behind me is the old city of Medina - more picturesque and above all cleaner and less dusty than Marrakesh. Next, a tour of the fortress, walls and port. Again a tour of the inside of a classic house, lunch was also with a beautiful view, and shopping is much cheaper than Marrakesh and Agadir, although I was able to bargain hard and I heard from three merchants at the closing of the shop that it is very difficult to trade with seeds - plus one in Marrakesh, he told me that I was rich and that I was robbing him, and after handing over the goods and money, he angrily left the store. Again, the price from Beach Tours is great and much better than with a travel card. I can only recommend, and if someone chooses from several trips, I would rather go to Essaouira than to Marrakech.
