De Hanging Temple heropende op 1 mei 2026, na onderhoud. Tickets voor de klim kunnen niet vooraf geboekt worden voor buitenlandse toeristen. De Hangende Tempel, een nationaal toeristisch gebied op AAAA-niveau, ligt tussen de kliffen van Cuiping Peak aan de westkant van de Jinlong-kloof in Hengshan, Hunyuan County, Datong City, provincie Shanxi. Het heette oorspronkelijk "Xuankong Pavilion", waarbij "Xuan" was afgeleid van de Chinese taoïstische leringen en "Kong" was afgeleid van de boeddhistische leringen. Het werd later omgedoopt tot "Hangende Tempel" omdat de hele tempel lijkt alsof hij aan een klif hangt. In het Chinees zijn "Xuan" en "Xuan" homofonen, vandaar de naam. [15] De Hangende Tempel werd voor het eerst gebouwd in de late Noordelijke Wei-dynastie (491 n.Chr.) en heeft een geschiedenis van meer dan 1500 jaar. Het is een unieke tempel die boeddhisme, taoïsme en confucianisme combineert. De architectuur van de "Hangende Tempel" is zeer onderscheidend en staat bekend om zijn steile helling alsof hij voor een afgrond staat. De Yungang-grotten werden meer dan 1500 jaar geleden opgegraven tijdens de oostelijke expeditie van Alexander. Dit is uniek in de schatkamer van de Chinese kunst en van grote betekenis voor de ontwikkeling van de Chinese cultuur en kunst in toekomstige generaties. In 2001 werden de Yungang-grotten door UNESCO op de Werelderfgoedlijst geplaatst.

We were looking for a transportation service to reach Yungang Grottoes and we found this one that drove us to the Hanging Temple, beside Yungang Grottoes. So it was the perfect solution for us. The driver was really helpful. We've chosen to buy the attractions entrance tickets by ourselves, but for the Hanging Temple was not so easy to buy tickets. The agency helped us booking the tickets and the driver helped us to pick them up. So everything went so smooth and fast. If I'd had to book this tour again, I wouldn't change a thing. Everything was perfect!

Great experience! We were followed from the moment of booking. Nancy, via chat, organized everything perfectly and shared all the necessary information, arranging so that we would pick up at our hotel and take us directly back to the station on the way back, in time to catch the next train of our trip. Fantastic day trip to the hanging monestary and Yungang grotto. Nancy’s communication before the trip was great and really helpful. Our driver Lee collected us from the lobby of our hotel. Took us to make sure we got our tickets and got the shuttle bus. He waited in the car while we visited the sites then took us back to our hotel. The sites we visited were absolutely amazing. We had a fabulous day.

We only have good words for Nancy and her drivers. They were very professional, pick us up at the exact time, good driving experience (not always is like this in China) and even, she solves a big problem we had with the cancellation of a train, and in few hours, se gave us an alternative with a good driver. Driver Mr Li picked me up from the train station. From Datong South Rail station to Hanging Temple was about 1 hour in automobile. Driver was great. I highly recommend this trip. I was supposed to go to the Grottoes but I was too tired and decided to go back to the hotel (but this was my choice). From Hanging Temple to the hotel is also about 1 hour. If you are vacationing by yourself I highly recommend to purchase a private tour as you will have the flexibility to adjust the trip as you see fit. Thanks for a great experience.
Excellent communication and management from Nancy, she advises you and manages the customized tours, which makes the experience of China much easier for foreigners. They have tours in different cities. We personally took three tours with her in 3 different cities (Chengdu, Beijing and Datong) and we had an excellent experience in all of them.
