Damnoen Saduak Floating Market bestaat uit een doolhof van smalle khlongs (grachten). Vrouwelijke handelaren, die vaak traditionele mo hom-kleding (blauwe boerenhemden) met breedgerande strohoeden (Ngob) dragen, gebruiken sampans (kleine houten boten) om hun waren te verkopen, vaak produceren. Deze boten zitten vaak vol groenten en kleurrijk fruit die fotogeniek zijn, en deze afbeeldingen worden gebruikt voor toeristische promotie. De markt is vaak het drukst in de ochtend van 07.00 uur tot 09.00 uur en is actief tot het middaguur. Verken de markt die op de trein wacht, Maeklong Railway Market is verspreid op en naast het spoor. Klanten lopen over het spoor op zoek naar iets om te kopen in de winkels aan weerszijden van het spoor. Meerdere keren per dag komt er een trein met lage snelheid aanrijden. Als de machinist toetert, pakken de verkopers snel hun waren op en halen ze weg om plaats te maken voor de naderende trein. Meteen nadat de trein is gepasseerd, wordt het luifeldak weer omhoog gebracht en is het business as usual.

The Railway market was fairly good. Very busy as mostly tourist that descend en-mass to be there when the train goes through. Likewise the train was full of tourists. Above is understandably obvious so nice to see the stalls adjust just in time to let the train through. Floating market was massively disappointing. The stalls are 90% selling cheap tourist tack. All the same. No-one is trading fruit and veg etc, as you see in the posters. The canals are full of plastic polution, its everywhere in the water on the banks, its been that way for years as its embedded in and dredging spoil along the banks. Also if you like breathing in exhaust fumes then this tour is for you. Young drivers handle huge engines on the long boats are skilfully maneuvered around the slower ones being paddled by older, fitter drivers. What they don't tell you is that if havent paid for fully inclusive tour you pay £75 for the boat for 90 mins tour. Not too bad if your group is 4 or 6 but a rip off if you are two.

Great tour! Tim was very nice and knowledgeable. I would have liked more tiime alotted at the train market, and that we were taken to an area where we could see the vendors remove their products from being too close to the train tracks.

The train ride and the market. Also the floating market very good experience. And lots of local foods.
Expecting to be delivered to a tourist focused excursion I was pleasantly surprised by the realness of both the Train market and the floating market. The fresh market along the railway was very good and by no means a display for the tourists. Our experience at the flower market was similar, riverside trading, paddle boat ride and surrounding tourist market were all of a high standard. Buy souvenirs, a coconut pancake, plate of fresh fruit or a beer as you drift along the canals. Paddle boat pricing can be negotiated and is better once you move away from the carpark. As a couple through a tourist office on Khaosan road we arranged a private driver to take us to both (750BHT pp). The drive time is at least 90 minutes each way in reasonable traffic. Everything was good until we got to a carpark ~ 3km from the Damnoen Saduak floating market where the boat guys wanted another 4000 BHT to take us to the market, more if you wanted to see the Elephants as well. It took us the next 15mins and google maps to convince our driver to take us to the floating market carpark where entrance is free and the only additional cost is incurred if you want to get in a paddle boat. For this we paid 300BHT for both of us.
A must trip to Bangkok. Our guide Kiwi was so adorable and enthusiastic. It was so humbling to ride the train and the boat in the floating market. It was a super traditional ravishing experience
An experience that is just about shopping very touristy, unfortunately we have traveled too much to appreciate this, but as a newcomer to Thailand, it is probably more fun.
The whole day the timing wasn’t right. Firstly the original time to meet was 9.00 am. We received a message the day before changing it to 8.20am. Rushed through breakfast to get there on time to be told to hang around until 9.00! Drove in a minibus to pick up the train which ran a little late, not the tours fault. Arrived at the railway market and were told to meet back at the train in 6 minutes. We all did this and then realised that we should have been in the market waiting for the train to go past so missed the whole point of the market and great photo opportunities. This happened to the whole bus load, not just us. We were then walked straight to the waiting minibus and would not have seen any of the market except we all started complaining so we walked through it. Drove to the floating market which was good. Food was good and cheap but didn’t have time to walk around the market. Left to come back to the pick up point and they wanted to drop us at a shopping centre 15 minutes drive away. Eventually they relented and drove us back. In conclusion we have done 20 or more Viator tours and this has been the most disappointing due to timing and bad communication
