Ga op een onvergetelijke dagtocht door het Troodosgebergte vanuit Paphos — een perfecte mix van adembenemende natuur, oude spiritualiteit en authentieke Cypriotische smaken. Uw reis slingert door het prachtige Troodosgebergte, bedekt met weelderige dennenbossen en frisse berglucht. De eerste stop is het charmante dorp Omodos, waar de geplaveide straatjes leiden naar het historische Timios Stavros-klooster, de thuisbasis van een heilig relikwie van het Heilige Kruis. Als u hoger door Pedoulas en Prodromos kronkelt, komt u bij het prachtige Kykkos-klooster — gesticht in de 11e eeuw en de thuisbasis van de heilige icoon van de Maagd Maria, waarvan wordt aangenomen dat deze door St. Luke zelf is geschilderd. Vlakbij op de berg Throni ligt het graf van aartsbisschop Makarios III — met een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht dat zich uitstrekt over het hele eiland. Verscholen in de plooien van het Troodosgebergte, is Omodos een dorp waar de tijd beweegt in zijn eigen zachte tempo. Oude stenen steegjes slingeren langs traditionele wijnkelders en ambachtelijke werkplaatsen, die leiden naar het hart van het dorp — het eerbiedwaardige Timios Stavros-klooster, een van de oudste en heiligste religieuze plaatsen van Cyprus, waar een kostbaar reliek van het Heilige Kruis staat.
Hoog in het Troodosgebergte, te midden van geurige dennenbossen, is Kykkos Klooster het kroonjuweel van het spirituele erfgoed van Cyprus. Dit prachtige klooster, gesticht in de 11e eeuw, herbergt de meest vereerde schat op het eiland — het wonderbaarlijke icoon van de Maagd Maria, waarvan wordt aangenomen dat het door Sint Lucas zelf is geschilderd. the weather is very bad on 20th when we took the tour, thunderstorms, strong wind, very cold, very foggy, low clouds, low visibility, there had been landslides with rocks on the road, worst there’s even hailstorms by afternoon. Our guide and driver Brad (hope I had spelt correctly) is the best driver, negotiating the zigzag narrow mountain drive in such bad weather conditions with ease, while at the same time talking and explaining. Kykkos is the main theme of the tour. We were given 40 minutes there, which I would suggest one hour is better. Unfortunately the Throni shrine was closed (maybe due to extreme weather). We arrived Omodos very early at 0830, everything is not opened (except few cafes), so we can only see the church. The Stavros restaurant, food & wine tasting is good. It’s really a memorable adventurous excursion. It’s a very special chance that we can experience such extreme conditions & circumstances. We were all safely back to Paphos at 4pm, thanks to Brad.

As for Omodos, you caught it in its almost “behind-the-scenes” early morning state — a rare perspective, though not the most convenient for exploring. And thank you for mentioning Stavros — it’s great to hear that even in such a demanding day, there was still room to enjoy good food and wine. We truly try not just to run tours, but to adapt to circumstances and maintain a high standard even when nature has its own plans. Wonderful trip with great guide, who kept us informed all the way, in a comfy air conditioned minivan. The monasteries and scenery was breathtaking, and lunch stop delicious.

Great day out. Ester our guide was friendly and helpful. She gave such an interesting and informative talk throughout the day. Teddy Bear was our driver and we felt very safe even on the really narrow and winding roads. The whole trip was geared to our enjoyment. Lunch was fantastic (I really must learn to order less food). It was lovely to have a chat with Ester and Teddy as we ate. The wine tasting was really good, treated myself to a bottle or two. We had a stop in a lovely little Cypriot village with a small monastery and some really quaint shops. This is my 2nd time to troodos.and every moment was memorable.from beginning to the end cherry on the cake was when our guide stopped the minibus to buy fresh cherries to share them with all on the bus .
