Een van de belangrijkste redenen om de Shahrisabz te bezoeken is om de bergpas en het plattelandsgebied van Oezbekistan te zien. De weg begint met de wijngaarden, fruitbomen, groenten en zoon. Langzaam verandert de hoogte en worden de velden vervangen door heuvels en uiteindelijk door Rocky Mountains. De "Teshik Tosh" of "Rock with the Hole" is de eerste stop om het ongelooflijke werk van moeder natuur te verkennen. De legendarische film "Apachen" met in de hoofdrol de beroemde Gojko Mitic werd op dezelfde locatie neergeschoten vanwege de gelijkenis met de Amerikaanse Southwest Prairie.

Ak Saray Palace (White Palace). De dimensies van het gebouw kunnen worden waargenomen bij het bekijken van de poorttorens: de twee torens waren 50 m hoog en hadden een boog met een overspanning van 22 m. De gebouwen werden vernietigd in de 16e eeuw. in opdracht van de heerser van Bukhara, Abdullah Khan.
In 1435 werd de Kok-Gumbaz-moskee (de "Blauwe Koepel") gebouwd tegenover het mausoleum van Kulyal en op dezelfde as. De inscriptie op de portal zegt over de constructie door Ulugbek namens zijn vader Shah Rukh. Het speelde de rol van de Juma-moskee, oftewel de vrijdagse kathedraalmoskee van Shahrisabz.
De oprichting van een architectonisch ensemble de Dorut-Tilavat madrasah dateert voornamelijk uit de tijd van de regering van Ulugbek. Allereerst werd een koepelvormig mausoleum gebouwd boven het graf van Sheikh Kul, op de overblijfselen van enkele eerdere gebouwen. Loop rond en maak geweldige foto's met de gigantische blauwe koepel over de vrijdagmoskee en de ingewikkelde bogen.
Je ontmoet hier veel lokale mensen, en met name bruiloften. Het ligt in het centrum van het nieuwe bult-park met het groen en bloemen en je kunt er een geweldig ijsje eten in een van de 'chayhanas' (traditioneel theehuis) met gebeeldhouwde houten kolommen.

There are 2 options, one is purely a driver, the other a guide. I chose the latter which fee is higher. The driver who drove us to the scenic spot of Shahrisabz does not speak English and didn't introduce or provide any tourist information during the ride. Our car (BYD) is good modern and cozy. After arriving at the main attraction of the trip which is beautiful, there was a English speaking guide.

The guide didn’t speak 1 word English, he had to use google translate and even then he didn’t know much about the history etc What a waste of time Ensure your guide speaks English otherwise do not book this tour

The climate was extremely hot and the AC in the car was very bad. The driver switched off the AC many times. If the trip started in the afternoon and ended by sunset it would have been better as the days are very very hot and we were boiling inside the car. The driver was a very good man and he was very courteous. Only issue is that he doesn't speak English.

The whole "tour" consists in a Russian speaking taxi driver coming to pick you up from your hotel and driving you to Shahrisabz. You can find something WAY cheaper just stopping a taxi driver in Samarkand by yourself. We were supposed to have a tour in English and all we got was this old guy who did not understand a word. Avoid this!

The service offered is just a driver. He could give some basic instructions in English. The drive took about 2 hours one way, went through a beautiful landscape, and included some interesting photo stops. The sights in Shahrisabz are not as spectacular as at other places in Uzbekistan but still worth seeing. For me, it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip before my flight back to Europe the next day.
