Beschrijving
Anawilundawa wetland sanctuary ligt op ongeveer 60 KM van Negombo, aan de Colombo Puttalam snelweg. Het is een toevluchtsoord voor vogelaars zowel resident als trekvogels. Anawilundawa is ook de broedplaats voor veel exotische vogels; waaronder enkele van de zeldzamere soorten aalscholvers, zilverreigers, ooievaars en ibis, samen met de fazantstaartjacana en de paarse moeraskip. Als je het reservaat om 06.00 uur kunt betreden, krijg je meer dan 150 soorten vogels te zien die hun nesten voor de dag verlaten. Een unieke excursie speciaal gemaakt voor vogelliefhebbers. Waarschijnlijk de beste dagexcursie om de natuur te ervaren.

De Anawilundawa Wetlands is een paradijs voor vogelaars, met meer dan 150 soorten vogels; zowel ingezeten als migrerend. Resident en endemische vogelsoorten zijn het hele jaar door te zien; terwijl de periode van oktober tot april de beste tijd is om een glimp op te vangen van de vele zeldzame trekvogels.

Our driver knew nothing about the sanctuary except how to get there. He didn't offer any information on the birds or any wildlife. He sat in the car and told us we could walk up a track ( which was washed away after a few yards.) Unwilling to turn the car around, he backed away, leaving us to walk to find him., and then pointed out another track, but said it was much the same. By this time it had got hot and we'd run out of patience with him. We declined the offer of a Temple visit ,as we only wanted the birding experience.

My birdwatching tour at the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary was truly outstanding, thanks to our guide, Nishantha. He was incredibly friendly, perfectly on time, and maintained excellent communication throughout the trip. Nishantha provided great insights into the local ecosystem and the birds we encountered, making the a fun experience. We managed to spot an amazing 25 different species, with a staggering 16 of those being lifers for me! I highly recommend Nishantha for anyone looking for a knowledgeable and professional birding guide in Anawilundawa.

If you love birds then this is the perfect tour to choose. (We unfortunately don't) the guide has many beautiful places to find them has apps on his phone to recognize them and he is passionate about this. I think because we didn't share the bird passion that there wasn't a click between us for this either. But this is not why 5 stars were not given because he really did it worthy of 5 stars. The reason is that he skipped the temples with us while they are mentioned that they would be visited

Spent here 3 hours for birdwatching. Saw very beautifull Peacocks & a lot of different other birds. Nishanta got us to the right spots to see as many birds as possible and provided us with homemade sandwiches, homegrown bananas & water. He did not know all the birds by name, but knew where to find them! ;-)

We saw a lot of birds, no people around We also go the Hindi temple Nice guide, he bring chairs to sit on, fruits for breakfast
