Ontsnap een dag aan het bruisende Amman en ontdek een van de oude juwelen van Jordanië. Je krijgt de kans om verschillende historische en religieuze bezienswaardigheden te zien tijdens deze privédagtour. Bezoek de oude stad Madaba, bekend om zijn mozaïek, met name de 6e-eeuwse mozaïekkaart van het Heilige Land in de Grieks-orthodoxe kerk van St. George. Klim naar de berg Nebo, een essentieel Joods-christelijk bedevaartsoord, waar Profeet Mozes voor het eerst het Beloofde Land bezichtigde en waarvan wordt gezegd dat hij daar stierf. En geniet van een schilderachtig uitzicht op het Heilige Land en de Jordaanvallei vanaf de top. Ga verder naar de doopplaats van Jezus Christus, in het Arabisch bekend als ‘Maghtas’, die wordt beschouwd als een van de drie heiligste plaatsen van het christendom. Het is de plaats waar Johannes Jezus Christus doopte.

Vertrek is vanuit Amman. Na het ophalen bij uw hotel stapt u in een geklimatiseerd voertuig met een privé Engels sprekende chauffeur en Wi-Fi aan boord. Observeer en staar naar de woestijnlandschappen van Jordanië terwijl u zuidwaarts reist naar Madaba. De chauffeur zal u helpen met bezienswaardigheden en specifieke informatie geven langs de route; ze zullen echter niet als Gids fungeren. Ontdek bij aankomst deze oude mozaïekstad met een geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de 2e eeuw. De bekendste is de mozaïekkaart van Jordanië en het Heilige Land van de 6e eeuw in de Grieks-orthodoxe kerk van Sint-Joris, gemarkeerd met punten die verband houden met historische verhalen die in de bijbel worden genoemd.
Deze 19e-eeuwse rooms-katholieke kerk biedt een unieke attractie : u kunt de klokkentoren beklimmen voor een panoramisch uitzicht over de stad Madaba.
Klim vervolgens omhoog naar de berg Nebo, een heilige berg in Jordanië, die op ongeveer 817 meter boven zeeniveau staat. Mount Nebo is doordrenkt van religieuze betekenis omdat het een belangrijk joods-christelijk bedevaartsoord is. Het is waar Mozes het Beloofde Land voor het eerst vanaf de top zag en waar de profeet Mozes zou zijn gestorven. Bovendien bouwden Egyptische monniken op de top een klein klooster ter nagedachtenis aan Mozes. In de vierde eeuw werd deze kerk vervolgens omgebouwd tot een basiliek. Deze basiliek, die nog steeds op de berg Nebo staat, heeft een verzameling goed bewaard gebleven Byzantijnse mozaïeken. De mozaïeken illustreren afbeeldingen van dieren in het wild en de jacht. Deze site is niet alleen een bezienswaardigheid voor liefhebbers van geschiedenis, maar biedt vanaf de top ook een panoramisch uitzicht op het Heilige Land en de Jordaanvallei.
De Doopplaats van Jezus Christus bevindt zich aan de Jordaanzijde van de Jordaan. Het was bekend als Betanië voorbij de Jordaan in de Bijbelse tijd, en wordt beschouwd als een van de drie heiligste plaatsen van het christendom; het is waar Jezus Christus is gedoopt door Johannes. Daarom markeren een belangrijke historische en religieuze gebeurtenis. Een 6e-eeuwse Byzantijnse kerk bekend om zijn uitgebreide en goed bewaarde mozaïekvloer. Het ingewikkelde mozaïektapijt is een meesterwerk van christelijke kunst, met afbeeldingen van verschillende dieren, planten en scènes uit het dagelijks leven.

Found I had an extra day in Amman so booked this trip at the last minute. Picked up by Ibrahim right on time. He smartly suggested an alternate itinerary to help avoid the heat of the day, so we started at the Baptismal site. Very interesting to see the old church locations. A group was also baptized in the Jordan while we were there which was cool to see. Then off to Mt Nebo. Awesome views of the Dead Sea and Jericho. And the old mosaics in the church were intricate. Quick stop at a mosaic store where they showed handcrafted mosaics painstakingly done by women which can take them months to complete. Then off to St George’s church and the Beheading of John the Baptist Church. Lots of interesting things in John the Baptist Church including the old well and the bell tower where you can see the surrounding area. On way back, Ibrahim made a quick pit stop and got us some juice from a stand which was refreshing after a long day. Quick notes and “good to knows”: none of the itinerary is covered by Jordan Pass which was disappointing since I thought a couple of the places would be. Ibrahim had water available which was very nice and needed. No food stops, so plan accordingly or work that out with the driver. Overall a good experience.
Great trip. I have been using this company for numerous trips/transportation while in Jordan. My guide/driver, Shadi is great. Always checking to make sure everything is good and very knowledgeable about the sites and history. You can have in-depth discussions with him so he is more than just a driver/guide, he’ll be your new friend.

The tour was wonderful, visited Citadel, Román theatre and king Abdullah blue mis que. Then allá the way to Madaba city : St George, st John churches, everything was amazing historial sites, finally to Mount nebo. Bader was our guide in this experience, because he speaks several languages and we could converse in Spanish, his treatment was very friendly and pleasant as he knows very well the tourist sites we visited. You should take this tour because you tour sites of great historical importance accompanied by local people who guide and help you along the way.
