De beroemdste muurschildering van Milaan, Leonardo da Vinci’s Het Laatste Avondmaal, is verborgen op een muur van de refter naast de Basiliek van Santa Maria delle Grazie. Santa Maria delle Grazie, een UNESCO Werelderfgoed en een uitzonderlijk bewijs van de Renaissance architectuur in Milaan. Ontworpen door Guiniforte Solari in 1463, met latere toevoegingen door Bramante, vat deze prachtige Lombardische kerk de pracht van het Milanese hof van Ludovico Sforza en Beatrice d’Este samen. Het bezoek van de kerk kan net van buitenaf worden gedaan als de kerk gesloten is. De kerk is gesloten tussen 12 : 50 tot 15 uur

Excellent tour guide, two hrs of interesting information with a twist of italian humor. The last super is a must see.
No trip to Milan would be complete without making a trip to see Leonardo da Vinci‘s last supper painting. It is by far one of the most famous artworks in the history of mankind. Learning about the history of da Vinci and some of his other well-known art pieces does not prepare enough for the feeling of walking into the room with the last supper. While we have seen this painting, literally thousands of times in our life in various churches, seeing it up, close in person was a truly inspiring moment. Analyzing all of the symbolism and mystique that goes along with this painting was a true once in a lifetime experience.
Definitely worth seeing the Last Supper even though you can only stay 15 minutes. They allow you to take pictures.
We highly recommend this tour the guide was fantastic, friendly, had so much information in the art and structures/architecture. Kept us out of the direct sun as much as possible, and even gave us a cafe break! And of course the Michelangelo Pieta and the last supper were total hits!
A very complete tour, with Lara as a guide specialized in art and in the history of Milan and Italy itself, we even learned about the culture and the way of thinking of the Italians.
The tour was absolutely amazing! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and did an excellent job explaining every detail while sharing so many interesting facts and insights. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour!
It was pleasant. But for €15 Euro ticket paid in advance and reading Wikipedia, you can get most of the same out of it. When you’re looking at $200 per person for a 60 minute tour, I would say it wasn’t worth it. We had a very pleasant guide and for €50 per person it would have been much more palatable. The tour had about 10 people. That was a €2000 per hour tour. Holy cow. And unfortunately, I had two questions that were both unknown to the guide. To save you the time, “ there is a famous story that says Leonardo da Vinci threatened to use the face of a complaining prior as the model for Judas in The Last Supper. The prior was complaining that it was taking Leonardo too long. However, it is almost certainly an anecdote rather than a documented historical fact.” Here’s the second; “ On the night of August 15, 1943, Allied bombers struck Milan heavily. The monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie was hit by multiple bombs. Here’s what happened: * The roof of the refectory collapsed. * Much of the monastery around it was destroyed. * Three of the four walls of the dining hall were blown away or severely damaged. * The wall containing Leonardo’s The Last Supper remained standing, although exposed to the open air for some time. Why didn’t the wall collapse? It wasn’t simply luck, although luck played a huge role. Several factors contributed: 1. Protective bracing before the bombing * Anticipating air raids, Italian conservators had surrounded the mural wall with scaffolding, sandbags, and timber supports. * These were intended to absorb blast forces and catch falling debris. 2. A very strong masonry wall * The mural is painted directly onto a thick brick wall that formed part of the monastery’s structural core. * Renaissance masonry of this type can be surprisingly resilient. 3. The bomb blasts struck elsewhere * The bombs devastated the roof and surrounding portions of the building, but no bomb scored a direct hit on the mural wall itself. * Had one landed even a short distance closer, the painting almost certainly would have been destroyed. 4. Rapid stabilization afterward * Once the bombing ended, engineers immediately shored up the surviving wall before weather and structural movement could cause it to fail. What about the opposite wall? The opposite end of the refectory contains a large fresco of the Crucifixion by Giovanni Donato da Montorfano. That wall also survived the bombing, leaving the refectory with its two decorated end walls standing while much of the rest of the building lay in ruins. This produced one of the most haunting photographs of the war: the two monumental paintings still facing each other across what had become an open-air ruin.”
Excellent private tour experience. Daniele was a great guide- provided great insights and very friendly. Well organized access to the Last Supper and the Duomo. Worth the price to get access with a small group.
