We booked 4 adult pedal bikes and 1 child bike. We paid $278. We got to the spot to pick up the bikes and they cost 20€ for adult and 10€ for child bikes. So should have cost about $100. This was a scam.
Very good. They are right next to the port where the ferry drops you off. The bike pickup and return were very fast. It is essential to rent bikes to visit the island's points of interest in the time available before the ferry returns. There are bikes and helmets of all sizes and types (mountain bike, city bike, with and without a basket, etc.).
No wait to pick up . Easy to operate ebikes. Helpful staff. Easy, fast return. Could not ask for a better experience.
E-biking the island is the bomb! Staff was friendly and responsive. Ask about the kill switch before you hit the road. Can accidentally trigger it when moving the bike against a wall.
I recently rented an electric bike to cycle around the island, and it was an outstanding experience. From start to finish, everything about the rental process and the ride itself was perfect. The staff member was incredibly friendly and helpful. He provided a thorough overview of how to operate the electric bike, ensuring that I felt comfortable and confident before setting off. He also gave me a detailed map of the island with recommended routes and must-see spots, which was invaluable. The electric bike was in excellent condition – clean, well-maintained, and easy to use. It had a powerful battery that lasted the entire day, and the bike handled hills and rough terrain effortlessly. The added pedal-assist feature made it possible to cover more ground without feeling exhausted, which was perfect for a full day of exploration. Cycling around the island on an electric bike was a fantastic way to see everything. The freedom to explore at my own pace, combined with the ability to easily tackle longer distances and inclines, made for an incredibly enjoyable day. I was able to visit the worm hole which was on a fairly rocky road. The island itself is breathtaking, with stunning coastal views. The electric bike allowed me to fully appreciate the beauty of the island, stopping whenever I wanted to take photos or simply soak in the scenery. It was an environmentally friendly way to explore, and I felt good knowing I was reducing my carbon footprint. Renting the electric bike was not really value for money at €40 each however it included a helmet, and the map, and the bike's performance exceeded my expectations. Considering the amount of ground I was able to cover and the unique experience it provided, it was worth the cost in the end. My day cycling around the island on an electric bike from was one of the highlights of my trip. The combination of excellent service, top-quality bike, and the stunning island scenery made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting the island – it's the perfect way to explore and enjoy everything the island has to offer. Thank you to the rental man next to the Aran sweater shop in the village for providing such a wonderful service. I can't wait to return and do it all over again!
Once we arrived the staff were incredibly rude once they discovered we had used a third party. They said we’d paid double and they looked after people who had booked direct ahead of us. The bikes are a very poor quality. Use another company as we saw a total of 4 companies there.
My friend and I rented electric bikes at Aran Bike Hire to ride around Inishmore on our own. I booked with another company at first, but cancelled that reservation because Aran Bike Hire was cheaper. (It was also closest to the ferry). We prepaid for the bikes, and had a quick lesson on safety and to learn how to operate the bikes, and were on our way within 20 minutes after we got off the ferry. There is a wait if you do not pre-book and pre-pay for the bikes. They also provide free helmets and bike locks. We had a rack on the back of the bike to hold our backpacks. We were given minimal information initially about safety features to ride the bikes, but when we asked another employee, he was extremely helpful. He thought we were joking when we tipped him upon our return. And, it would be nice if there were mirrors on the bikes. It's hard to keep track of your group. We saw most people riding regular bikes, and we were SO GLAD we had electric bikes - this is a hilly, hilly island. This is a beautiful, interesting island. Wish I spent the night on the island. Did not get to see all the sights, and bike rental lasts til 6 PM, so you have much more time to explore if you stay on the island.
We enjoyed the exercise but beware, there are hills!! That said, if you are in reasonably good shape, you can do the whole island if you don’t stop for long anywhere. We stopped at the Dun Aonghasa fort and spent an hour hiking up for spectacular views and as a result, had to take the shortest route back to the Ferry. That was truly a test; steep, breath-stealing hills and very rocky, unpaved hilly roads. Don’t take the expert hill in the center of the island is my advice. Very uncomfortable, bumpy ride! I wasn’t sure my tires would hold out. I’m 71 years old, and fit for my age, but I mention it so you can take that into account. Younger people might find it much easier than I did, but unless you’re used to mountain biking in rocky terrain, skip the hard road. The coastal roads have grand views compared to the inland expert road. Btw, there is no “tour”. There is no one to tell you about the things you’ll see on the island, nor are there signs except at the fort. If you want to learn about the island, take a horse cart tour. Or a bus tour. Or hire a guide. Good bikes with 21-speed gears. Road tires. This company has LOTS of bikes and all styles including e-bikes.
fantastic people on the island, very welcoming . Make sure you book your bike in advance . Make sure you visit Joe Watts
