Het is een rondleiding die aangename historische informatie combineert over de oude binnenstad van Corfu, die sinds 2007 op de werelderfgoedlijst staat, en tegelijkertijd krijgen ze de kans om enkele kleine winkels binnen te gaan die alleen bij de lokale bevolking bekend zijn om lokale producten te proeven en ontmoeten en praten met de eigenaren van die winkels.

Onze geaccrediteerde gids zal je ontmoeten voor de Oude Vesting bij het standbeeld van Schulemburg en nadat ze je van buitenaf wat informatie heeft gegeven over het monument, vervolg je je tour in het historische centrum.
Het centrale plein van Spianada is het belangrijkste monument van de stad. De naam is afgeleid van het Venetiaanse woord voor een "open vlak gebied" en er wordt gezegd dat het het grootste plein van de Balkan is. Liston, dat deel uitmaakt van het plein, herbergt enkele van de beste cafés en restaurants van Corfu. Het waren de Fransen die van de Spianada een openbaar plein maakten. Vóór de negentiende eeuw was het een groot leeg terrein dat werd gebruikt voor defensieve doeleinden. Cricketwedstrijden worden gespeeld op de Esplanade, de enige plaats in Griekenland waar de sport wordt gespeeld.
Het paleis van Sint-Michiel en Sint-Joris bevindt zich op het noordelijke deel van het historische centrumplein van Corfu. Het is het grootste en belangrijkste gebouw van de Engelse heerschappijperiode, die begon in 1814 en eindigde in 1864 toen de Ionische eilanden werden herenigd met de rest van Griekenland. Ze werden gebouwd op verzoek van de Britse Lord High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Maitland, om zijn eigen luxueuze residentie te worden en om het administratieve hoofdkwartier van de High Commissioner te huisvesten. Tegenwoordig herbergt het het Corfu Museum of Asian Arts, het enige in zijn soort in Griekenland, uitsluitend gewijd aan de kunst en oudheden van het Verre Oosten en India. Het werd opgericht in 1928 en de collectie omvat momenteel ongeveer 15.000 Aziatische kunstwerken en geniet wereldwijde erkenning, met zeldzame items uit de collecties die worden gepresenteerd in internationale tentoonstellingen.
Tijdens onze tour bezoeken we ook de kerk van Saint Spyridon, de patroonheilige van het eiland en een wonderdoener.
Terwijl we door de smalle straatjes lopen, passeren we het Stadhuisplein van Corfu, ooit de exclusieve Venetiaanse wijk met het operagebouw en de villa's eromheen. We zullen het stadhuisgebouw bewonderen dat eerst werd gebruikt als club voor de edelen en later in 1720, het gebouw huisvestte het Edele Theater van Sint Giacomo van Corfu. Uiteindelijk werd het in 1903 omgevormd tot een stadhuis.
De Joodse wijk, het oude Venetiaanse 'getto' dat vandaag de dag nog steeds Evraiki wordt genoemd in het Grieks, strekte zich uit over het zuidoostelijke deel van de stad, in de buurt van de Venetiaanse vestingwerken. Het was doorkruist met steegjes met vervaagde huizen met meerdere verdiepingen, zoals in Venetië. Het getto verloor zijn stedelijke eenheid door bombardementen tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Electra was incredible knowledgable And provided a tour. The food was incredible, we did the 6pm tour and would recommend skipping lunch as you get a lot of excellent local food during the tour.

I booked this tour after a lot of research. We were on an Oceania Cruise and celebrating my parents 50th anniversary. This was HANDS DOWN everyone’s favorite tour. We had the wonderful good fortune to have Nausica as our guide and she was so vibrant, knowledgeable and full of fun facts. She showed us some of the best foods and little known historical area of corfu old town. She is the reason ever one of us agreed we need to come back to Corfu and spend a month exploring the island. We’ve enjoyed some excellent small group food and cultural walking tours across Europe, but the combination of a brilliant guide (Nausica) - who was both highly informative and humorous - and the generous, varied and delicious food we enjoyed, made this the best tour we have joined. Alice was probably, no, she IS the BEST, tour guide ever! She has soooo much personality that the whole tour comes alive. Great information, great food stops, and always interesting. Words are not enough to describe how enjoyable this experience became. At each stop we were greeted by wonderful food presentations and happy cooks/owners. The only suggestion (this is minor) would be to decrease the number of “sweet” treats. Alice also provided a deep knowledge and understanding of Corfu.

Make sure you come hungry! This was a fantastic experience - our guide Alice was lovely and very informative it was a great way to get to know the city, try some delicious local food and meet fellow travellers. Electrabel was a welcoming, animated and thoughtful guide who gave us a marvellous cultural tour of Corfu old town. The tour punctuated with delightful and delicious food and drink stops sampling authentic Corfiot treats. It was the perfect blend of culture and food, with the experience brought to life by Elektra's amazing knowledge of Corfu, past and present. I was amazed that our tour even included a 2 course dinner at a charming bistro that we would never have found on our own. I could not recommend Electrabel and this tour more highly. Book it fast!
