Beschrijving
Ervaar Curaçao met alle vijf de zintuigen en geniet van de unieke keuken in drie persoonlijk en zorgvuldig gekozen restaurants in het historische Willemstad. In elk restaurant zijn er twee monsters van eten en één drankje (één warme drank en drie cocktails). Tijdens de tour zie je ook de hoogtepunten van de stad en leer je alles over de geschiedenis en cultuur. Start de tour in Riffort Otrobanda in de middag. Na een korte wandeling bezoeken we het onlangs gerenoveerde gebied van Kura Hulanda, waar u kunt genieten van een lunch. Daarna steken we de iconische Emmabrug over naar onze volgende stop. Op de Handelskade genieten we van twee (2) lokale hapjes en een cocktail. Vervolgens slenteren we door de hoofdstraat en hebben we twee verschillende samplers met een cocktail in een gezellig steegje. Tenslotte gaan we terug naar Otrobanda, waar u een typisch lokaal dessert kunt proeven, vergezeld van een kopje koffie of thee, terwijl u geniet van een fantastisch uitzicht op de Handelskade.

Bij Riffort kunnen bezoekers de indrukwekkende 19e-eeuwse vestingwerken bewonderen en leren over hun rol in het verdedigingssysteem van het eiland. Het fort is in 1828 door de Nederlanders gebouwd en werd gebruikt om de stad te beschermen tegen piraten en andere indringers. Fort Amsterdam ligt in het hart van Willemstad en is een van de belangrijkste historische plekken op het eiland. Het fort, gebouwd door de Nederlanders in de 17e eeuw, speelde een cruciale rol in de geschiedenis van het eiland als een knooppunt voor handel en commercie in het Caribisch gebied. Een van de meest opvallende kenmerken van Fort Amsterdam is het nabijgelegen Paleis van de Gouverneur, dat dienst doet als de officiële residentie van de gouverneur van Curaçao.
Kura Hulanda is een levendige en historische wijk die het ontdekken waard is. Het gebied herbergt kleurrijke architectuur, levendige straten en enkele van de beste restaurants en bars van het eiland. Wandelen over de Koningin Emmabrug is een opwindende ervaring die een prachtig uitzicht biedt op de kleurrijke gebouwen van Willemstad en de bruisende haven. Terwijl je over de brug loopt, voel je hem zachtjes onder je voeten wiegen, wat bijdraagt aan het gevoel van avontuur en opwinding.

De rij pastelkleurige gebouwen in Nederlandse koloniale stijl langs de gracht creëert een verbluffend en fotogeniek tafereel dat vaak op ansichtkaarten en reisbrochures te zien is. Veel van de panden langs de Handelskade herbergen winkels, boetieks, cafés en restaurants en bieden bezoekers de mogelijkheid om rond te snuffelen in lokale ambachten, te genieten van een verfrissend drankje of de heerlijke lokale keuken te proeven. Breedestraat is een levendige en historische straat gelegen in het hart van Punda, de charmante en kleurrijke wijk van Willemstad. Het is een van de belangrijkste verkeersaders in de stad en biedt een prachtige mix van geschiedenis, cultuur, winkelen en dineren. Een van de opvallende kenmerken van de Breedestraat is de pittoreske architectuur. De straat is omzoomd met felgekleurde gebouwen in koloniale stijl die dateren uit de 18e eeuw. Deze charmante gevels laten de Nederlandse invloed op het eiland zien en zijn een genot om te verkennen en te fotograferen.
Het Wilhelminaplein ligt in het hart van Punda. Het plein is vernoemd naar koningin Wilhelmina, die Nederland begin 20e eeuw regeerde en wordt vereerd als symbool van Nederlandse nationale trots. Bezoekers van het Wilhelminaplein kunnen een standbeeld van de koningin zien, dat in 1955 ter ere van haar werd opgericht. In het midden van dit plein staat het levensgrote C U R A C A O bord. Dit is een van de populairste fotomomenten in de stad.
Het Brionplein is vernoemd naar een beroemde lokale held, Pedro Luis Brion, die een sleutelrol speelde in de onafhankelijkheidsstrijd van Venezuela. Het plein ligt aan het water en biedt een prachtig uitzicht op de haven van Willemstad en de iconische Koningin Emmabrug. Op het Brionplein prijkt de nationale vlag van Curaçao.

Five stars isn’t nearly enough to describe our experience. Imagine an old dear friend taking you around and sharing with you the experience of their culture and favorite eating spots. If I had to describe us it would be as “real foodies without the attitude”. On the culinary side we could not have been happier. The first stop, at the restaurant where the ad photo was taken was one of the best meals we’ve had - so fresh and innovative - no way to describe it adequately as it has to be experienced. The rest of the stops were also superlative. During our walking adventure we learned so much about the culture and history of Curaçao. The one thing that was even better than the food was our conversation and interaction with Helvig. The other review posted is spot-on and there just aren’t words that exist that adequately express how much we enjoyed our time on this tour.

The review I write will not do the experience justice but I will try my best. My husband and I are big foodies and always try to find unique food experiences wherever our travels may take us. This one was over the top! First off, Helvig is in fact... amazing. She is a great conversationalist and ridiculously familiar with the history of the island as she is multi-generational in that regard. She is also very humorous if you are inclined to allow her to be so. I would have attached pictures as I do in fact have many, however, that would spoil the surprises that await you should you be fortunate enough to book this tour. Thanks to her and the experience we WILL visit Curacao again which was ZERO CHANCE prior to the tour - due to a horrible resort experience. It is my understanding that she has different tours with some being without the food experience. Whatever the experience is..... just BOOK IT!!! Bonnie and Clyde Greenville, SC
