Begin in de charmante wijk San Sebastian, de westelijke koloniale grens van Cuenca, waar u door een schilderachtig plein wandelt, de koloniale architectuur bewondert en het Museum voor Moderne Kunst met zijn lokale tentoonstellingen verkent.
Wandel langs Bolivar Street om de overgang van de Franse naar de republikeinse tijd van de stad te ontdekken, wat wordt weerspiegeld in de elegante architectuur, en bezoek de 10 de Agosto-markt, dompel jezelf onder in de levendige cultuur terwijl je leert over lokaal fruit, producten en tradities.
Ga verder naar het iconische San Francisco Plaza, de Bloemenmarkt en het historische Parque Calderón, met de indrukwekkende oude kathedraal en de nieuwe kathedraal, een van de grootste kerken van Latijns-Amerika, met een prachtig gouden altaar.
Na de lunch in een lokaal restaurant aanbevolen door uw gids, bezoek El Barranco voor een prachtig uitzicht op de Tomebamba-rivier en de hangende huizen. Verken Calle Larga en het Pumapungo Museum, waar je uitzonderlijke tentoonstellingen vindt over archeologie en de diverse inheemse culturen van Ecuador.
Vervolgens bezoeken we de Homero Ortega Panamahoedenfabriek, waar u getuige bent van het ingewikkelde proces van het maken van wereldberoemde Panamahoeden van “paja toquilla”, een traditie die diep geworteld is in de economie en cultuur van Cuenca. What a great way to spend the day! Wilson , our guide took us to facinating places including a place where they make the famous Panama hat ( it’s actually a Ecuador hat!) . We Saw Cuenca from high above and visited beautiful villages in the mountains then walked around Cuenca’s historic center and visited a few of Cuenca’s 52 churches. Wilson was an excellent guide and spoke perfect English. It felt like a freind showing us his city. He took us to a place that he knew about and had encebollado , a delicious Ecuador soup for lunch and he gave us a great recommendation for a dinner restaurant.
