Als je niet veel tijd hebt in Sai Gon, waarom ga je dan niet samen naar de Cu Chi-tunnels en de Mekong Delta? Dit is de beste route om 2 bekende plaatsen in het zuiden van Vietnam te verkennen. 07:00 uur Onze gids ontmoet je in de lobby van het hotel en vervolgens rijden we 1,5 uur naar het noordwesten van Saigon, door het zuidelijke platteland naar de legendarische Cu Chi-tunnels. Het netwerk strekt zich uit van Saigon tot aan de grens tussen Vietnam en Cambodja en omvat talloze luiken, verstrikte woongebieden, opslagfaciliteiten en wapenfabrieken, mini-militaire ziekenhuizen, commandocentra en zelfs keukens. Tijdens deze tour verken je het leven van een Vietcong-soldaat onder de grond.
- Dit met de hand gegraven tunnelnetwerk strekt zich uit over 200 kilometer en is met elkaar verbonden schuilplaatsen, posten, ziekenhuizen en wapenbunkers... Je kunt door het gebied lopen en meer te weten komen over het leven van VC, de slim vermomde ingangen en uitgebreide boobytraps onder ogen zien. Vervolgens rijdt de minibus ongeveer twee uur om het Mekong-gebied te bereiken.
- Geniet van een lunch in een lokaal restaurant op weg naar Mekong. - Na de lunch verlaat u de grote stad terwijl het landschap geleidelijk wordt vervangen door rijstvelden en landelijke dorpjes op uw rit naar My Tho. - Vervolgens begint de reis met het nemen van kleine boten en een cruise over de rivier om een kokosnootfabriek te bezoeken om te leren hoe je hier kokossnoepjes kunt maken en wat lokale producten te proeven. Dan heb je de kans om met een paardenkoets door het dorp te rijden en te genieten van tropisch fruit.
- Daarna is de geweldige roeiboottocht op het kleine kanaal in het dorp Tan Thach in Ben Tre iets dat je niet mag missen. Nog een eilandje tijdens deze reis brengt je naar een kleine bijenboerderij waar je kunt genieten van honingthee en andere lokale producten. Kom dan rond 17.30 - 18.00 uur terug naar uw hotel.

Great private tour done with Lee and driver who took us safely everywhere. In the morning we went to the tunnels. In the car Lee told us all about the war history, not only from the books but also from his father. We arrived before the big crowds and the visit was very impressive. The second part of the day was slightly modified at our request; for example a Vietnamese and Buddhist temple (where monks also live) were added and horse and cart ride changed to tuk tuk. We skipped the honey where many tours stop. Lee had arranged a private boat that took us in the Mekong to several stops. All in all had a really great day. A private tour may be a bit more expensive but we really liked it. We booked Lee through tours with locals.

A great day out. Penny was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about the tunnels and the history of the Vietnamese war. We learnt so much from her. It is a long day so be prepared for that. We also want to say how great the driver was.
Penny is an absolutely fantastic tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable and completely made the trip for us. Her English is exceptional. Apart from seeing the the Cu Chi Tunnels, which was quite an eye opening experience, we had a lovely trip along the Mekong Delta, stopping for lunch and going to a couple of small islands which was really interesting. All in all a great day.
