Na tientallen jaren van conflict is Vietnam bezaaid met historische oorlogssites. De Vietnamoorlog had een grote impact op miljoenen levens van beide kanten. Het lijdt geen twijfel dat een reis naar Vietnam niet compleet zou zijn zonder een bezoek aan historische oorlogssites van belang. Cu Chi Tunnels waren niet alleen de thuisbasis van duizenden Viet Cong guerrilla’s, maar het was ook een ingewikkeld bouwwerk bestaande uit talloze loopgraven, bunkers, vallen, schuilplaatsen en een geweldig luchtventilatiesysteem. Het Cu Chi tunnelnetwerk is een uitgebreid labyrint van ondergrondse tunnels die zich uitstrekken tot aan de Cambodjaanse grens. Ze werden gebouwd over een periode van ongeveer 25 jaar en de eerste bouw begon in 1948 door de Viet Minh tijdens de oorlog tegen de Frans. Soldaten kookten, aten, sliepen, werkten en gingen zelfs naar school in deze tunnels terwijl het conflict daarboven woedde, om nog maar te zwijgen van ziekenhuizen, theaters, scholen, keukens, allemaal ingebouwd in dit buitengewone tunnelsysteem.

Such great learning, the Cu Chi tunnels is definitely something you have to do. Tinh was a great tour guide and didn't rush us at all. Bus was comfy and the stop off at the painting place was sweet, plus they gave snacks!

Very knowledgeable, it was amazing to see in person. It gets a bit crowded but overall I was amazed to see the jungle and battle grounds. Going through the VC tunnel was super exciting. Also I paid to shoot the machine gun. Shooting was expensive but worth it

Fantastic tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels! We were picked up from our hotel on time, and everything was well organised. Nora was an amazing guide—so friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the history of the Vietnam War. She made the whole experience enjoyable and was happy to answer any questions throughout the day. Exploring the tunnels and getting to shoot AK-47s was unforgettable. A big thanks to our driver, Tru, for getting us through the traffic safely and smoothly. Highly recommend!
