Geniet van deze wandelsafari met tochten door Kenia bush expedities en reizen. Crescent island is een prachtige plek verborgen in de vloer van de spleetvallei. Het wordt omringd door het prachtige meer Naivasha, de thuisbasis van honderden nijlpaarden. Na 1,5 uur rijden van Nairobi word je verwelkomd op het halve maan-eiland door vriendelijke gidsen.

Dit wordt een prachtige dag voor jou. Onze chauffeur haalt je 's morgens vroeg uit je stadshotel. Na een korte introductie rijdt u 1,5 uur naar het Crescent-eiland met een stop bij het uitkijkpunt de Great Rift Valley voor fotografie. Een speedboot wacht op je om naar het eiland te varen. Er zijn duizenden vogels te zien, dieren grazen aan de oevers van het meer en snurkende hoofden van een enorm nijlpaard. De piloot is deskundig en handelt als uw gids in het meer. Na 30 minuten rijden, arriveer je op het eiland en wordt je verwelkomd door de vriendelijke gidsen. Ze zullen je door het eiland leiden en je dieren en vegetatie laten zien. Vanaf de top van de heuvel is er een 360 graden uitzicht over het meer van Longonot naar Hell's Gate naar de Mau Escarpement naar Eburu en naar de Aberdares. Er zijn meer dieren per hectare dan welk ander Keniaans park ook, vandaar dat veel filmbedrijven naar het eiland zijn geweest om de kuddes Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra en Gazelle te filmen. We zijn niet omheind om de dieren op het vasteland toe te laten om hun habitat voor ontwikkeling en de steeds groter wordende bevolking te verliezen. Nijlpaarden grazen ons 's nachts en slapen dan onder de acacia of rusten overdag in het water. De giraffen die op het eiland zijn geboren keren terug om te bevallen; soms zie je drie generaties tegelijk. Hyena's komen 's nachts jagen, maar wonen niet op het eiland. De vele python die hier leeft, is af en toe te zien met een kill. Groepen Buffalo komen en gaan, maar ze worden altijd gecontroleerd. U zult genieten van uw lunchpakket in het park. Na 4 uur op het eiland komt de boot je ophalen naar het vaste land. Je gaat op weg naar nairobi met veel herinneringen.

I booked their Crescent Island tour and, while their website said it was US$150pp, it was actually US$200 since I was a solo traveler, but it was worth the extra cost. Joseph picked me up from my hotel right on time and told me a lot about Kenya as we traveled to Lake Naivasha, with a brief stop to take in the views of the Great Rift Valley. As I'd told him that I was interested in birdwatching, Joseph made sure to find me a boatman who knew about birds for my tour of Lake Naivasha. (Once I reached Crescent Island, I was handed over to one of the island guides, Steven, who showed me tons of birds, mammals and even a reptile.) Once I rejoined Joseph on the mainland, he recommended Kifaru for lunch. It's a tourist cafe a little ways from the lake, so the prices are better than the lakefront options. He steered me away from the a la carte menu to the buffet, which all of the guides (and the well-informed guests) order. For less than US$10, I had a plate with yummy stewed beef, salad, mixed veggies, sauteed spinach and ugali (a steamed cornmeal bread). Then he returned me to my Nairobi hotel right on schedule, after a very full and interesting day.

I was alone with Julius and I really enjoyed the time I spent there with him. He was very qualified for his job and knew a lot of different things. We have been able during this day to drink Kenyan coffee, buy some Kenyan gifts, do a boat ride on Naivasha Lake and of course to see all the animals of the crescent island. We could almost touch them, it was a one time experience. It was marvelous. I think I will remember this day my whole life. Thank you to Julius who has been such a good guide during this day. Booked this tour as side activity (after big national parks) and was positively surprised. Island is very beautiful. You can see various mammals and birds from close distance, zebras and giraffes were the cutest. Whole scenery is very beautiful. Includes short boat ride as well. Driver/guide Julius was great,.too. Provided a lot of interesting information, took photos of me, gave me enough time on the island and generally was nice.
