De Cradle of Humankind is een van de meest interessante archeologische tours die je in de buurt van Johannesburg kunt doen. Het is de thuisbasis van een van de belangrijkste archeologische vindplaatsen ter wereld en staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. In 1947 ontdekten Dr. Rorbert Broom en John Robinson ‘Mrs Ples’, een schedel van een volwassen volwassen Australopithecus Africanus en in 1998 ontdekte professor Ron Clarke hier fossiele fragmenten die leidden tot de locatie van ‘Little Foot’, een bijna compleet overblijfsel van Australopithecus Africanus. . In 2008 kondigde professor Lee Berger de ontdekking van “Sediba” aan, ook in het Cradle-gebied. De Sterkfontein-grotten, gelegen in het hart van de bakermat van de mensheid, worden beschreven als de ‘antropologische schatkamer van de wereld’. Het is 's werelds oudste en voortdurende paleontologische opgraving, waaraan al meer dan 60 jaar is gewerkt, en bevat een derde van 's werelds mensachtige fossielen.

Ophalen bij uw hotel. Een algemene introductie en overzicht van het gebied en de gids informeert u over het programma van de dag. Bij aankomst kunt u genieten van een schilderachtig uitzicht op het Cradle-gebied, op ongeveer 1 uur rijden van de stad Johannesburg.
Verken de grotten van Sterkfontein tijdens een educatieve rondleiding door de ondergrondse grot. De Sterkfontein Grotten gelegen in het hart van de Wieg van de Mensheid wordt beschreven als de ‘antropologische schatkamer van de wereld. Het is 's werelds oudste en voortdurende paleontologische opgravingen, waaraan al meer dan 60 jaar wordt gewerkt en bevat ongeveer een derde van 's werelds ooit ontdekte hominide fossielen.
Na ongeveer 10-10 minuten rijden naar Maropeng komen we aan bij het bezoekerscentrum waar u wordt begeleid door een gids en vervolgt u uw weg over een magische bootweg door een kunstmatige ondergrondse grot die u naar een museum leidt. De Tumulus in Maropeng is het belangrijkste bezoekers- en interpretatiecentrum voor de Wieg. Het is ontworpen om van buitenaf op een met gras bedekte oude grafheuvel te lijken. Het museum bestaat uit tentoonstellingen over de vorming van fossielen en de evolutie van de mensheid. De tour is zowel leerzaam als erg leuk met interactieve displays en magische ondergrondse boottochten. Na 10 minuten rijden bezoeken we het bezoekerscentrum van Maropeng, waar u wordt begeleid door een gids en vervolgens verder gaat op een magische bootweg door een kunstmatige ondergrondse grot die u naar een museum leidt. We zullen genieten van een overheerlijke lunchbuffet in Maropeng, het Tumulus-restaurant dat het beste uitzicht op het Cradle-gebied biedt.
Na deze prachtige en fascinerende ervaring rijdt de gids u terug naar Johannesburg of Pretoria waar u wordt teruggebracht naar uw hotel of startpunt

We were picked up late due to traffic and the 10 am tour we were to be on left early due to an influx of school kids. Not a problem except one of our group had a 5:50 pm international flight. Guide Wisdom problem solved along the way and we got in both cave tour and museum. He was super knowledgeable and friendly and we enjoyed his company. Cave tour was cool but only a replica of Mrs Ples skull to see. Still interesting. Museum is very good. Another World Heritage site, check!
Thiya tours and Nhlanhla Ndlovu have us a whole day of interesting story of South Africa. The apartheid museum was closed so we were at the constitution hill with the prison and the constitution of human rights and we learnt about human evil during apartheid. The grave was also very interesting. Thanks for the good organized tour and the knowledgeable guiding during the trip!
We would highly recommend this tour! We enjoyed our time with professional guide, Witness. Witness provided a brief historical lesson on South Africa, the impacts of the Dutch and British and also the discovery of the area now known as The Cradle of Humankind. The cave and museum tours were worth doing.
Witness is a great guide. He is informed and helpful and made sure we enjoyed the caves and museum and gave us insight into African culture.
Sterkfontein cave was amazing. Our guide was Witniss. Everything was on time. The guide told us many Interesting facts about South Africa and Johannesburg.

Fantastic easy experience. We booked online and was picked up the next day at our hotel. Lots of great information about Johannesburg on the drive to the caves. Our guide made everything streamlined and we were able to just sit back and relax. I 100% recommend this service and excursion!
We had a wonderful tour with Witness. He picked us up from our hotel in a comfortable car, and on the hour or so drive there and back gave us a lot of information about the history and culture of South Africa. He was very knowledgeable and a delight. If you are looking for a great tour guide, I highly recommend him. We visited the caves, which can be challenging if you are claustrophobic, and then went to the museum. It was a great tour and very interesting.
Our guide, Witness, picked us up promptly at the appointed time. The van was comfortable with great AC, and Witness made sure we had water to drink throughout the tour. The Sterkfontein Caves were amazing! Lots of steps, both up and down, and a few areas where we needed to squat-walk, but it was so worth the effort! Thank you Witness - we had the most excellent conversations throughout our day with you. Outstanding work!!
