The experience started off great. As it was just myself and my wife it became a much more personalised experience considering this holiday in Zanzibar was for our honeymoon, and we really did enjoy the first part of the quad biking experience, particularly being able to drive on the open roads and off roads, as well as getting to know more about the history. Things did take a turn once we arrived at the first village. Whilst we were originally encouraged not to buy from the Masai shops (it was good for our host to make us aware of this in advance), it did seem a bit contradictory as at the end of the village tour, most of the village was near the entrance, and a shop which the host then expected us to buy things, so it felt forced. We are the type to give willingly and so this had a negative impact on the experience, and then having to seperate what we bought between the villagers is not something we were expecting to do. Additionally, our tour was supposed to have been 4 hours but it had only lasted for 3 hours. I think there needs to be more forewarning on expectations when visiting the village. Had it not of been forced, we may have given more cheerfully, and probably would have tipped our host. Overall, an average experience, but I think the excursion needs to be specific on what the full quad biking experience will entail. Would definitely advise more caution when entering the villages. I think we may have been treated somewhat differently had we not of given, but I think it should be optional, and not an expectation.
Solomon and his colleague were so amazing! They made us feel so safe and comfortable during our trip. Tip: Please bring some change, in case you go into a village - bringing some gifts from the local stores i.e. washing powder etc would be very sweet. Overall-, next time I am in Zanzibar, I am booking again.
I absolutely loved this trip for everything: 1) My guide Habib was amazing. He was very professional, helped translate whenever I asked, and guided us well. 2) The company was very accommodating. I came in 30 minutes late and they were waiting for me to start the trip. 3) The experience of visiting villages and meeting children is exceptional. If you want to do a lot of good, this is the place to go. The children will love and appreciate any help they can get. I wish I could go more on trips like that! I can certainly recommend!
A really great experience and a must do. You will see behind the scenes how the people of zanzibar live. The quads are not brand new as described and a lot of things are broken. But, the main functionality is given. The children in the villages will come to you and take your hand or will try to play with you. If you are afraid, do not do this tour!
We had a great time on our cool quads. The countryside was beautiful, our guide was knowledgeable and we loved the villages.
Cant say enough about the Cool Quads Zanzibar Tour team. They arranged the ride from our hotel in Zanzibar City. They were very flexible in providing my wife and me individual quads to ride on. Our guide was very friendly and informative about the ride and the places and villages we were going to visit. . They did not accept payment before we started, stating that they will collect payment only when the ride was finished. Before we could start, it started to rain. After waiting a short while, we started the ride when the rain had almost stopped. About 15 to 20 minutes into the ride, the rain started coming down again and that too very heavily. We stopped and took shelter and then after waiting about 10-15 minutes, we decided to cancel the ride and head back. We got thoroughly drenched during the entire process. When we got back to their offices, Ahmed, the resident Manager of the entity stepped in and offered us towels and the use of his bathrooms. Ahmed also allowed us the use of his clean personal clothes to wear on our hour long ride back to our hotel in Zanzibar City. On top of that, he did not charge us a penny for the cancelled ride. Ahmed is truly a great customer focused person. We came back to our hotel and returned Ahmed's clothes through the driver. The story does not end there. Later in the evening, when we were about to sit down for dinner, my wife realized that she had lost her $600 sunglasses. So we started tracking back to all the places that we had visited during the day and reached out to each of them. Ahmed looked around the Cool Quads office facility and found the sunglasses there. Since we were leaving Zanzibar the next day, he offered to courier it out to us in the mainland. I sent him the address of the last hotel we would be staying at after our safari trip. He couriered the sunglasses to the address in Arusha that I provided so that the package would be waiting for us when we arrived there. He sent me the tracking number and then said that he will not take a penny from me as reimbursement for couriering the sunglasses. We got the sunglasses at the end of our safari tour. Thank you Ahmed for what you did for us. You truly exemplify Tanzania's customer focus. You are the best!! I strongly recommend Cool Quads Zanzibar for the social focus of the tour and for the customer focused team led by Ahmed, threir manager.
Driving the quad was a lot of fun, especially the off-road driving through the jungle was really great. The guides tried hard, but I'm pretty disappointed that the last stop on the beach didn't take place. The villages were visited and that was it. For me personally, it was very strange to stare at the people in the villages. The children come running towards you and touch you. Something you should know before taking this trip. Transfer there and back, great!
Incredible experience. Must try if you’re in Zanzibar. We wish do this again in the near future. Also the weather was great so that was a bonus.
A fun tour and interesting landscape. Really fascinating to visit a couple of villages and meet with the local people and see where/how they live. The tour guides were attentive throughout. All the quad bikes worked, though my husband’s did have a bald tyre! I wish I had known to bring “gifts” such as rice or practical things like washing powder or kids clothes. We were warned not to give village children money as there had been a dispute in the village on a previous visit by tourists. I would also liked to have had a couple more photo stops . I recommend this as a day out if you’re in Zanzibar and want to see local village life.
Absolutely amazing! A brilliant way to explore Zanzibar off the beaten track. The guides explained everything before we went out on the quads and explained the route we would take and what we would see on our way. I'd recommend bringing some money to buy some treats for the local children in the villages and for the curios shop. Brilliant way to explore and learn about the way of life in Zanzibar. I feel they have also taken on board the negative reviews that were left be people previously and have improved the experience from this. Such as the children holding on to you when in the villages, they warn you about this before you go out. They also advise you to bring money with you but do not force you to buy anything for the children.
