Contrasten van het communisme - wandeltocht met kleine groepen in Boekarest

U ontdekt het verhaal van de opkomst van de Roemeense communistische partij en de ongeëvenaarde persoonlijkheidscultus van dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, die voor zijn iconische balkon staat. Je leert hoe Ceausescu’s hunkering naar applaus leidde tot zijn omverwerping in de meest gewelddadige anticommunistische revolutie van 1989. U zult buiten de gebaande paden gaan en gebruik maken van Boekarest's grote openbaar vervoer naar de Memorial Cemetery of the Heroes van 1989 en een uniek monument voor de leiders van de communistische partij te krijgen. Op een tour vol contrasten leer je over het dagelijks leven tijdens het communisme, de economie, de propaganda, de relatie met religie, de angst voor de geheime politie. Je verkent ook het Civic Center en de buitenkant van het Parlementspaleis en leert over de prestaties van architecten, maar ook de offers voor de lokale gemeenschap, de sloop tijdens de jaren 1980. U eindigt de wandeling op Unirii Boulevard, in de buurt van het Parlement en de oude stad.

U staat op de plaats waar Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989 zijn laatste toespraak hield en hoort het verhaal van de opkomst en ondergang van de communistische dictatuur.
U staat op KM0 van de Roemeense vrijheid van meningsuiting, waar de eerste helden stierven voor de vrijheid in Boekarest op 21 december 1989, en pakt het huidige politieke klimaat in Roemenië uit.
U reist buiten de gebaande paden met het openbaar vervoer om een typische arbeiderswijk te verkennen en te zien hoe de grijze communistische blokken uit de jaren 1970 opnieuw worden uitgevonden dankzij kleurrijke straatkunst.

U krijgt een uniek uitzicht vanaf een van de hoogste heuvels in Boekarest en ontdekt het Monument van de Helden voor de Vrijheid van het Moederland , gebouwd ter ere van de communistische partijleiders.
U keert terug naar het centrum van de stad en staat voor het Parlementspaleis, het op één na grootste administratieve gebouw ter wereld, de laatste gril van Nicolae Ceausescu
U eindigt de tour in de buurt van de dansende fonteinen op Unirii Boulevard, ontworpen als een ''home-court voordeel "voor nederige wereldleiders.

Fantastic time! My first morning in Romania I spent 3 hours walking with Elena, learning her nation’s history. We walked, took the subway & a public bus, seeing different parts of this great city, and learning its history along the way. By the time we parted ways, I had developed feelings for the this country. Its contemporary story felt real. My respect for its people grew.
