Constanta ligt op het kruispunt van verschillende commerciële routes, aan de westkust van de Zwarte Zee, op 185 mijl van de Bosporus. Als een oude metropool en de grootste haven van Roemenië, vindt Constanta zijn geschiedenis zo'n 2500 jaar. Fijne herenhuizen en hotels werden gebouwd in de 19e eeuw toen koning Carol I besloot om Constanta te laten herleven als haven- en badplaats. Constanta, de op twee na grootste stad van Roemenië, is nu een belangrijk cultureel en economisch centrum dat de moeite waard is om te verkennen vanwege de archeologische schatten en de sfeer van het oude stadscentrum. De historische monumenten, oude ruïnes, het grand casino, musea en winkels, en de nabijheid van badplaatsen maken het tot het centrale punt van het kusttoerisme van de Zwarte Zee.

Het Folk Art Museum is gevestigd in een karakteristiek gebouw van de stad, het Communal Palace, en verrast met de veelheid aan traditionele handgemaakte exposities. Het museum is gehuisvest in een gebouw met een grote betekenis voor de geschiedenis van de stad. Het gebouw werd gebouwd in het jaar 1893 en diende voor een periode van tijd als het hoofdkantoor van het stadhuis, genaamd het stadspaleis. In de loop der jaren had het gebouw andere bestemmingen, maar 1975 herbergt het Folk Art Museum, een toonaangevende culturele instelling van Constanta.
Deze indrukwekkende moskee is de zetel van de moefti en werd in 1910 gebouwd door koning Carol I. Het is het spirituele huis van de 50.000 moslims die de kuststreek bewonen. Het hoogtepunt is het enorme Perzische tapijt, naar verluidt het grootste tapijt van het land. Je kunt de 140 treden van de minaret beklimmen om te genieten van een geweldig uitzicht op de oude stad, de Zwarte Zee en de toeristische haven.

It is a long trip and we started early at 7am. Being a weekend it was busy soon after getting on the motorway. Glad we didn’t leave later!!! Christian speaks English very well and is full of knowledge and passion for Romania. A safe and ‘efficient’ driver we had as many stops as we needed for food and bathroom breaks and still managed to get to Constanta with as much time as we wanted. If there is something that you especially wanted to do or see nothing was too much trouble for him. We had a swim in the Black Sea, enjoyed a few drinks at Mikes bar and then his recommendation of lunch at a Greek restaurant was much appreciated. No kickbacks just his personal recommendation. He showed us a few Mosques and the Casino and the local markets were on. It was a quick trip back and we thoroughly enjoyed his time and jokes.
Cristian was our driver for the day. He was very knowledgeable and friendly which made the long drive to and from Constanta more enjoyable. He let us decide how much time to spend at each location. He gave us a recommendation for a great Greek restaurant in downtown Constanta. The weather and walk along the beach of the Black Sea was wonderful. Thank you, Cristian!
Spent a beautiful day at the beach! Booked this private tour to Constanta to see a different part of Romania and spend some time at the Black Sea. Our driver, Christian, could not have been more accommodating letting us decide amount of time we wanted to spent at beach. After beach stay, he recommended excellent Greek restaurant for lunch and then gave use a tour of old town. Christian was knowledgeable of the history and friendly/professional in his overall approach. If you decide to take this tour be prepared for the long drive - about 3 hrs each way (which we knew) but we got to the Black Sea!!!!
May is too early to visit as the weather is not good enough and most of the restaurants, activities are closed. A d it's a long drive from Bucarest .
Christian was a wonderful guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and it's history. He gave us ample time to explore on our own and recommended a great restaurant for lunch.
Cristian was an Excellent driver and guide. He was full of information and gave us time and space to do our own thing. Castanta definitely worth a visit and the orthodox church was very Spiritual and beautiful.
Christian was a wonderful driver. Very knowledgeable about his country's history and considerate regarding what his passengers wanted and expected.
After a discussion with our guide Beatrice we had already done Constanta and the Black Sea on the cruise ship we had just left and being extremely creative Beatrice decided we should see some of the mountains. She took us to Snow Island and to Peles Castle (?) which we absolutely loved. We had a delicious meal in a local restaurant which she highly recommended and saw the monastery’s which we found very interesting. We found that Beatrice’s knowledge of the area and Bucharest was extensive, she was delightful company and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day in her company. I could not recommend her more highly.
viator sold us a danube delta tour but sent the wrong voucher and we ended up on the constanta tour......viator will not refund the trip or give me a discount on another tour.... this tour was a bore..... constanta is only good if you want to go to the beach.... the rest is as uninteresting as counting sheep.....

100% satisfied! Good, knowledgeable guide who showed all the nice little streets, sights but also where things were for example cheapest. Great flexibility in the schedule. Highly recommended!
