De Veado Verde / Green Deer nodigt u uit om een ervaring te beleven in oude Romeinse landen. Leer meer over Romeinse gewoonten en tradities die zo diep geworteld zijn in en rond de ruïnes van Conimbriga. Laat ons u hun waterbron en het begin van het aquaduct in een oud castellum, de ruïnes van het quasi-keizerlijke Conimbriga met zijn Huis van de Fonteinen tonen en genieten van zijn prachtige tuintaferelen, mythologische passages, seizoenen, monsters, vogels en zee dieren. We zullen ook de gelegenheid hebben om het PO.RO.S - Romeins Portugal Museum in Sicó te bezoeken, het nieuwste museum, geïntegreerd in de Romeinse erfenistour. Het Conimbriga-aquaduct begint bij Alcabideque, waar het oorspronkelijke verzamelbekken van het bronwater nog steeds wordt gebruikt als de plaatselijke dorpsvijver. Naast de vijver zijn de indrukwekkende ruïnes van een castellum dat fungeerde als een reinigingsbassin. Na 3,5 km kwam het water de stad Conimbriga binnen, gedeeltelijk gedragen door een onderbouw en eindigend in een castellum aquae met een complexe structuur.
PO.RO.S – Roman Portugal Museum in Sicó is het nieuwste museum van de gemeente Condeixa. Het bestaat uit een cultureel project dat is geïntegreerd in de Romeinse erfenistour. Als multimediale en virtuele ruimte werkt het in combinatie met Conímbriga (gesloten op maandag).
Conímbriga werd bewoond sinds de pre-historische tijd en werd in 139 voor Christus bezet door Romeinse troepen en werd de welvarende hoofdstad van de provincie Lusitania. In de volgende eeuw, tijdens het bewind van keizer Augustus, groeide het stedelijke deel van de stad. In deze periode werden enkele van de belangrijkste gebouwen voor het dagelijks leven in een Romeinse stad gebouwd, zoals het forum, het amfitheater en de thermale baden. Later werd een basiliek met drie schepen gebouwd in het centrum van de stad. Je kunt ook een bezoek brengen aan het museum, waar verschillende kamers je meenemen naar het dagelijkse leven in deze Romeinse stad door voorwerpen die na vele jaren van opgravingen zijn ontdekt, het religieuze leven, architecturale landhuizen en hun decoratie en zelfs het leven op het forum.

I was very happy with the tour of Conimbriga by Alfredo. He knows the site very well and has a clear itinerary to hit the principal areas, like walls, governor’s house, palestra, forum, ending at the phenomenal House of the Fountains. We spent about 2 hours at the ruins, including a brief stop at the museum. Whether or not you decide to use a guide, if you are in Coimbra or walking the Camino, it is well worth a stop. Alfredo included a bonus stop at the Castellum in Alcabideque which really closed out this trip back 2000 years in time. Alfredo coordinates the tour with pick-up / drop-off at select hotels in Coimbra Baixa but was flexible with our pick up because we were coming off the Camino de Santiago trail which passes right in front of the site. We even had the pleasure of being escorted by Simba, Alfredo’s German shepherd, who was surprisingly at home among the ruins.
The tour was excellent. Our guide Alfredo provided so much great information and explanation of the Roman ruins site at Conímbriga and the museums we visited. If we had visited the ruins on our own, we would not have known the richness and intricacies of the experience. It was definitely a five-star experience!
You could do this on your own but having someone along is helpful and put us at ease. Alfredo went with us to the museums and told us all about the Roma ruins we visited.
Yesterday we went with Alfredo to Conímbriga, the ruins of a Roman city outside of Coimbra, Portugal. It was a fabulous tour. Alfredo took us to a local museum about Roman life before we went to the ruins which gave us a much better awareness of what we would be seeing in the context of Roman daily life. He then took us to the ruins and answered all our questions as we walked all over the ruins. I really appreciated the relaxed pace he set, his in depth knowledge and his interesting stories. We ended the tour with a visit to the Conímbriga ruins museum, and finally at the artesian spring which fed the aquaduct to the city. Our 4 hour tour was so much more interesting than we had expected. I recommend it whole heartedly to everyone.
I can recommend Alfredo with the greatest enthusiasm: knowledgeable, thoughtful, kind, and interesting. He is a wonderful guide.
Alfredo is very knowledgeable, friendly, and has a great sense of humour. He picked us up very close to where we were staying and shared lots of information about the area along the way. We had a great time. Highly recommend!

Alfredo is the owner of the company. Very knowledgeable and fun. Only issue was that he would not pick us up at our hotel, although Viatour indicated that hotel pick up was included.
Wonderful explanations of what we were seeing. Made all the difference. Alfredo was stellar. Worth every penny
