Colosseum Underground Night Tour

We arrived on time to meet the guide for a tour scheduled three months ago - but after waiting 20 minutes, called tour group. They had cancelled on us literally 24 hours earlier but we had no internet to see. A text would have been better. Was told by other guests that because of the tourist volume that the Government issued tickets to event were redirected.... :(

So unhappy with this tour/company and want to warn others so they don't experience the same issue. Booked this tour and paid for it 2 5 months ago. Got email the day before to say that 'bummer' the tour was cancelled. No reason given. Rang to enquire and was informed thar the Colosseum was overbooked and that tours were being bumped as a consequence. SO annoyed. Unable to book anything at this late notice. Huge let down and completely unreliable. BOOK ELSEWHERE.

Wow--amazing tour! We were initially scheduled for a 7pm tour--but our original booking was oversold. The company worked very efficiently and communicated directly with us (thank you, Pelin!) in order to correct this--despite the difficulty presented with us traveling and being out of touch at times. We were then booked at the 10pm time--which ended up being even better! Our group was a total of 24--and did not actually feel too big. My family--which included my 79 year old mother and 13 year old daughter--all enjoyed this tour and were able to comfortably navigate. Our guide, Nico (an archeologist!) was fantastic--VERY knowledgeable. We were literally the LAST people to exit the Colosseum that night--felt so special and the temperature was just right (very important given the heat in the summer). Definitely would recommend!

Find a different company to take this tour with! The meeting sight changed from what the ticket said and we were still there on time. We even had the police involved to tell us we were right. There was no guide. We ran to the entrance of the Colosseum to see if we could find the group, with no luck. After several attempts to get a refund from Viator we were repeatedly denied, because we were marked as “no shows”. We are out $263!

Touring the Colosseum at night is a must on your visit to Rome. The underground was especially interesting and you don’t have the crowd that you have when touring during the daytime. Guide was very knowledgeable as well. Definitely recommend.

I booked this experience because it was advertised as a private tour. My family of seven arrived at the location (was told our guide would be holding a White carpe diem sign) we looked for several minutes and no one with a sign. My phone rang and I could not hear the woman speaking....there were three calls back and forth before we located her. The area was extremely busy and very noisy. Once found I was told to wait until the others were gathered, I told her we had booked a private tour... she just said, sorry you this is not a private tour. She then told us she was not the tour guide and we would have a tour guide provided by the Colosseum. The other family that we were put with also thought they had booked a private tour. Much to our surprise there were actually 12 more people added to the tour. The tour itself was terrible. Our tour guide was very rushed and spent so little time at the actual sites of the tour. She held a small binder with pictures that she used while she described things, you literally flashed the pictures and was done. The earphones that were provided were so cheap that all you could hear most of the time was static....most of the tour goers stop using them about a quarter of the way through. The tour was advertised as 2 hours and we were rushed through in 45 minutes. The tour was to start at 7pm, we began the actual tour at 7:15 and left the Colosseum before 8pm. We had toured the Colosseum in the past and had a great experience....this was absolutely terrible! The other thing that made me so angry was the tickets that we were given at the site from the tour group was labeled for $22 Euros... we paid $130 per person!!!!!! DO NOT DO THIS TOUR!!!!!

We didn't actually get to partake in the Night Tour, because for some reason the Colosseum decided not to allow it to happen, so we were rescheduled for a day tour which also included the Roman Forum and a fantastic tour of the Palatine hill. Our tour guide was Rich, a native English speaker, who was brimming with knowledge and made things super interesting. There is just no other way to see these spectacular sights. It's the difference between just looking at something and understanding what you see. It was absolutely fascinating. The night tour would've been really great, but we couldn't be happier with the tour we ended up taking. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Worth every penny, this tour was first class. We met later than expected for a 21.30 tour but this was perfect as a small group and only one other small group who we hardly saw, so it felt like we had the entire Colosseum to ourselves. Wasn’t hot, crowded or rushed. Tour guide was first class, full of knowledge and great sense of humour. Without a doubt highly recommend and highlight of the trip.
