Oorspronkelijk bekend als de Porta Appia, lag de poort schrijlings op de Via Appia, de regina viarum (koningin van de wegen), die zijn oorsprong vond bij de Porta Capena in de Servische muur.
De Catacomben van Rome (Italiaans: Catacombe di Roma) zijn oude catacomben, ondergrondse begraafplaatsen in en rond Rome, waarvan er minstens veertig zijn, waarvan sommige pas in de afgelopen decennia zijn herontdekt.
De Via Appia (Latijn en Italiaans: Via Appia) is een van de vroegste en strategisch belangrijkste Romeinse wegen van de oude republiek. Het verbond Rome met Brindisi, in het zuidoosten van Italië. Het belang ervan wordt aangegeven door de algemene naam, opgetekend door Statius, Appia longarum... regina viarum ("de Via Appia, de koningin van de lange wegen"). De weg is vernoemd naar Appius Claudius Caecus, de Romeinse censor die het eerste deel als militaire weg naar het zuiden in 312 voor Christus begon en voltooide tijdens de Samnitische oorlogen.
Santa Maria in Palmis, ook bekend als Chiesa del Domine Quo Vadis, is een kleine kerk ten zuidoosten van Rome. Het ligt ongeveer 800 meter van Porta San Sebastiano, waar de Via Ardeatina aftakt van de Via Appia, op de plaats waar, volgens de apocriefe Handelingen van Petrus, Sint Petrus de verrezen Christus ontmoette terwijl Petrus op de vlucht was voor vervolging in Rome. Volgens de traditie vroeg Petrus hem: "Heer, waar gaat u heen?" (Latijn: Domine, quo vadis?). Christus antwoordde: "Ik ga naar Rome om opnieuw gekruisigd te worden"
De Villa van Maxentius is een keizerlijke villa in Rome, gebouwd door de Romeinse keizer Maxentius. Het complex ligt tussen de tweede en derde mijl van de oude Via Appia en bestaat uit drie hoofdgebouwen: het paleis, het circus van Maxentius en het dynastieke mausoleum, ontworpen in een onafscheidelijke architectonische eenheid ter ere van Maxentius.
De piramide van Cestius is een piramide uit de Romeinse tijd in Rome, Italië, vlakbij de Porta San Paolo en de protestantse begraafplaats. Het werd gebouwd als graftombe voor Gaius Cestius, een lid van de religieuze corporatie Epulones. Dankzij de integratie in de vestingwerken van de stad is het vandaag de dag een van de best bewaarde oude gebouwen in Rome.
De pauselijke basiliek van Sint-Paulus buiten de Muren (Italiaans: Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura) is een van de vier belangrijkste pauselijke basilieken van Rome, samen met de basilieken van Sint-Jan in Lateranen, Sint-Pieters en Sint-Maria Major, evenals een van de zeven pelgrimskerken van Rome.
De Sinaasappelbomentuin is de naam die in Rome wordt gebruikt om het Parco Savello te beschrijven. Het is ongeveer 7.800 vierkante meter groot en ligt op de Aventijnheuvel. Het park biedt een prachtig uitzicht over de stad. De tuin zoals die er nu uitziet, werd in 1932 ontworpen door Raffaele De Vico.

Our driver Stefano was prompt, courteous, and accommodated every request we had! He used his knowledge of the city and sites that we wanted to visit to make our day easy and fun. We were able to tour all the basilicas we wanted and go through the Holy Doors for the Jubilee year. Even though we were hampered by a foot injury, Stefano found a way to easily get us into every site with minimal difficulty. We were so very well cared for - it was an exceptional experience. Stefano found us a charming restaurant to eat before returning to our hotel at the airport. He also made time to help us with some personal errands! This is the second time we have used eternal city tours and we will not use anyone else on any future trips! For comfort, personalization, and value you will find none better!

Best insider tour of the most interesting historical Christian sites in Rome. The Church of Domine Quo Vadis was something that we would have missed, and it was amazing - the story of St. Peter told in one tiny church and even a sculpture by Michelangelo. Also the Villa of the Roman emperor Maxentius where we saw the emperor’s private version of the Circus Maximus.
