Als je houdt van chocolade, de natuur en het observeren van wilde dieren in hun natuurlijke habitat, zoals apen, luiaards en gekleurde kikkers, dan is dit de perfecte tour voor jou. Tijdens deze tour bezoekt u een traditionele cacaoplantage in de buurt van Cahuita Park in Puerto Limon. In dit pand, beheerd door een lokale familie met meer dan 100 jaar chocoladetraditie, kunt u de geschiedenis ervan leren kennen en zien hoe het door de tijd heen heeft weten te overleven. Onder begeleiding van deskundige lokale gidsen bezoeken we de cacaoplantages om meer te weten te komen over de plant, de teelttechnieken, de vruchten, de oogst en de verwerking van de zaden totdat we het eindproduct bereiken: chocolade. Na deze chocoladetour vervolgt u de reis naar het Tortuguero-kanaal, een plek vol wilde dieren waar de luiaards in hun natuurlijke habitat gemakkelijk te zien zijn.

Limón, beter bekend als Puerto Limón, is een district, de hoofdstad en het belangrijkste knooppunt van de provincie Limón, evenals van het kanton Limón in Costa Rica. Het is de zevende grootste stad van Costa Rica, met ruim 55.000 inwoners, en de thuisbasis van de Afro-Costa Ricaanse gemeenschap. De pier ligt recht tegenover de stad en het is een klein stadje dat je gemakkelijk kunt verkennen met een korte wandeling. Tijdens onze rondleiding zal onze gids een korte rondleiding door de stad verzorgen, waarbij u meer te weten kunt komen over de cultuur, tradities en belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden.
Als u alles wilt ontdekken en leren over cacao of chocolade, dan bent u hier aan het juiste adres. Bezoek onze oorspronkelijke cacaoplantage (meer dan 100 jaar oud) met zijn respectievelijke geschiedenis en dan komen we aan bij een nieuwe plantage in productie waar je leert hoe je cacao kunt verbouwen in harmonie met de natuur en je ook het verse fruit kunt proeven en we aankomen bij het Afro-Caribische Museum, de hele geschiedenis van cacao, machines die in de vorige eeuw werden gebruikt om cacao te drogen en naast de museum is er een geschikte ruimte waar je het hele proces van de cacaoboon kunt observeren, zelfs klanten kunnen deelnemen aan het proeven van de granen in verschillende fasen van het proces totdat ze chocolade worden en uiteindelijk de chocolade kunnen proeven die ze willen.
Het Tortuguero-kanaal in Moin, in de regio Puerto Limon, is het begin van de 160 kilometer die langs de Caribische kust van Costa Rica loopt. Dit natuurlijke en door de mens gemaakte kanaal herbergt vele diersoorten die gemakkelijk te zien zijn, waaronder luiaards, watervogels en met wat geluk apen.

There was a tour guide and bus driver who worked together. The tour guide was excellent explaining what the tour entailed. He showed us what Costa Rican money looked like and passed it around. We visited the Chocolate plantation, saw crocodiles and enjoyed a delicious hot lunch. We even got to shop in the store! A wonderful experience with terrific tour guides!

Our guide was Ernesto and he truly gave us a remarkable day. The cacao farm tour was interesting, fun and tasty! Seeing the steps from pod to finished product and all the steps between was really something, and the folks at the farm were terrific. We really got lucky on the canal as we saw sloths and monkeys! Ernesto also took us to the banana plantation and gave us some truly interesting insights to the flora in CR. I should also give rave reviews to our driver. Hector. His eagle eyes spotted sloths during our drive! Finally, once back in Limon, Ernesto showed us the best place to buy Costa Rican coffee and then a small local cafe- things he certainly didn't have to do but were very much appreciated Overall our day was truly enjoyable and we would definitely recommend this tour (especially if you can get Ernesto as tour guide!)

Steven was a great tour guide! This was noted in prior reviews and was instrumental in my final decision to go with this tour. Highly recommend over booking a tour through the cruise line. It was great to be in a small group vs a commercial bus with 75+ people. Again Steven was the best and you will have no second thoughts on choosing this tour!

We rate this 5 out of 5 stars. Steven is an excellent guide. We were lucky, it was just the two of us on the tour so it was a very personal experience. If we come back to Costa Rica we would use Greenway Tours and we would ask for Steven again.

The boat ride in the canal was way too long. The guide (Christopher) was very good though. We did learn a lot about the chocolate process

The Chocolate Tour & Tortuguero Canal shore excursion from Puerto Limon was excellent. Our guide and driver Steven was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we never felt rushed at any of the stops. A nice touch was the box we were given that included water, fruit juice, sweets and food bar. It was lovely to just be on the tour with one other couple, so much easier and more comfortable than being on a coach with 50 people. The stops were interesting with lots of information given. We were given some lovely fresh fruit after the canal portion of the the tour. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

WOW this was a great tour and well worth the price! Highly recommend. They picked us up from our cruise terminal and then drove into the jungle where we saw the chocolate museum/plantation. Got a chance to see the fruit growing and even try the raw cocoa pod fruit (delicious!). We saw the entire process of how chocolate is made and got to eat it at each stage. We then went to a banana plantation and saw how bananas are harvested (and we got to try both commercial and local small bananas which are delicious!). Then the tour of the Canal in a boat (no kayaking or paddling necessary), where the guide pointed out several sloths, monkeys, birds, lizards, and more. An unforgettable day and a great tour!!!!
