The Mayan Cacao Company het is een plek om de oorsprong van chocolade te ontdekken in hetzelfde land als hun makers: The Mayans. Het is een interactieve plek waar je een ontdekkingsreiziger wordt van de geschiedenis van het meest populaire voedsel ter wereld, te midden van een tropische weelderige omgeving, de oorsprong van Cacao ontdekt. Ook leert u in onze workshop uw eigen handgemaakte chocoladereep maken, met het authentieke recept van de Maya's; meer willen? We hebben meer, we zullen je leren hoe je een heerlijke Margarita kunt maken met de aanraking van chocolade, onze specialiteit. Er is geen betere manier om een dag door te brengen in Cozumel, tegelijkertijd genieten van een beetje cultuur en plezier.

We beginnen onze tour met een bezoek aan het echte Maya-huis, waar je zult weten hoe de Maya's hun cacaobonen als betaalmiddel gebruikten, leer over hun tradities, hun dagelijks leven, slimme tuintechnieken en probeer zelfs een vers gemaakte tortilla gegarneerd met een regionale saus voornamelijk gemaakt van chocolade. Word een expert in handgemaakte chocolade en laat de sensualiteit van chocolade je zintuigen prikkelen in onze Margarita en Chocolade Workshop. In onze workshop leer je hoe je je handgemaakte chocoladereep maakt met het authentieke Maya-recept, met behulp van de juiste gebruiksvoorwerpen. Je leert ook hoe je de Chocolade Margarita, onze specialiteit, maakt, je ontdekt de oorsprong van deze drank gemaakt met exquise toets van de drank van Mexico "El Tequila". Om te eindigen in onze boetiek kun je een onvoorstelbare verscheidenheid aan cacaoproducten kopen: zepen, crèmes, sauzen, handgemaakte chocolade en nog veel, veel meer. This was a nice way to spend an early afternoon away from the cruise port. Angel was our guide and did a great job explaining the history of chocolate and the relationship to the Mayan culture. It’s an interactive journey where you learn the history, see a Mayan home, learn about the day of the dead, get a fresh made corn tortilla with chocolate mole and then head up to a step by step journey to create your own chocolate bar manually the Mayans did in the past. After that we had an opportunity to make our own chocolate Margaritas based on Angels recipe. They were surprisingly good and refreshing treat on a warm afternoon. They have a nicely setup gift store to purchase chocolate bars and other cocoa products along with Talavera pottery and other items. This is definitely something worth doing and a welcome change if you want a short break from the beach and water. Easy Taxi ride from cruise port and easy to get back with plenty of time to enjoy the port shopping and board the cruise ship. Highly recommend Angel, he has a passion for chocolate!

This is a fun and informational experience. We had a good time going thru the tour with our guide, and then grinding cocoa beans to make our own chocolate and a delicious chocolate margarita. Paty, our guide, was super sweet and knowledgeable, and we had a great VIP tour, since we were the only ones there that day. As a sidenote, there is no taxi stop from the chocolate factory, so arrange your return trip before you get dropped off! The taxi from Punta Longosta terminal cost us a little more than expected, but it's a good 20 min ride out there, and our driver waited 2 hours for us, so it was probably worth the cost.
