Morning time just spent...

Morning time just spent in the souvenir shop, the whole activities like selling souvenirs. The tour guide is very professional, just only the tour operator need to plan carefully and should not waste a lot of time there.

Reactie van de operator

Thank you for sharing your experience with us The stops at the shops are for the travelers can walk around and stretch their legs, for most people is difficult to endure the entire transportation time. This is part of almos any full day tour in existence

Passionate Tour Guide Opened Our Eyes to Breathtaking Cenote and Mayan World

Outside of the comforts of your resort, there is much to see and experience in the Mayan world. Get going with this wonderful excursion to the heart of the Yucatán! The tour starts with picking you up at your hotel at 7am, so plan the tour ahead of time. If you have time for one tour, we recommend this excursion to Chichen itza, a cenote called Silver Maya (Semal Maya), a Mayan cultural center and a short stop in Valladolid city. Our tour guide Alfredo was very insightful, and it’s not a surprise because he majored in history at university. He has studied Mayan culture all his life. He explained the Mayan world with passion, which opened our eyes to information about the Mayans we didn’t know before the tour. On the way, Alfredo explained with visuals and prepared us for the sights. At the points of interest, he showed us interesting intricacies we would have missed had we went alone to the points of interest. In Valladolid, he shared the importance of the symbols on the St. Bernardine church. At Chichen Itza, he showed us how the clever Mayans replicated the sound of a bird by clapping your own hands that echo at the top of the pyramid. Amazing. At the Mayan Cultural center, we had the opportunity to buy handicrafts and learn more about the shamans in Mayan culture. We actually met one! All purchases of the handicrafts help to restore the Mayan culture, supporting young people who want to teach Mayan language, history and culture. If you do choose to buy a handicraft, you can bargain for a fair price. Keep in mind, these handicrafts are made by the local Mayans. With a very hard year for tourism, they have suffered quite a bit. Javier the driver was very skilled and attentive. He looked out for us when we lagged behind the group upon our return to the van at two locations. We didn’t want to leave the places we visited! This is how good the trip is to the locations Alfredo and Javier toured us. We appreciated the fresh cheese sandwich, fruit and apple juice in a bag at the start of our trip. Cool bottled water is offered at all times. Our hotel made a breakfast to go so we could eat it on the tour. Bring some snacks. Prepare to tip the driver and tour guide, and other people at the restaurant at lunch. So bring small denominations of currency. It’s very hot in the Yucatán, we suggest cool comfortable clothes. A hat would be good to deflect the hot sun. Wear walking shoes at Chichen Itza, because the grounds are made of grass and small gravel rocks dirt. Don’t wear flip flops to Chichen Itza. Wear sunscreen. A swimsuit under your clothes is helpful so you don’t have to change at the cenote. There are lockers at the cenote. One person from our group chose not to swim in the cenote because he was afraid of water. It was a pity, because it is absolutely gorgeous. Bring a waterproof camera or protector for your smart phone. Be careful walking down the stairs to the cenote. I don’t recommend wearing flip flops down the stairs. Prevent slipping. Use your bare feet or wear water booties. Do not wear sunscreen here because it will contaminate the fresh water. You have to shower before getting in anyway. The van’s seats are small, so be prepared to be slightly squeezed for a 2.5 hour drive. But you don’t notice the small seats as you are getting to know fellow travelers, which made the trip nice. We met a lovely family from San Diego and another couple from Florida. One of our fellow travelers is the trainer for the first Down syndrome competitor in the Ironman competition! Hector’s story will be on NBC on Jan. 19, 2021. We highly recommend this tour! Ask for Alfredo! Remember to tip your tour guide and driver. They go out of their way to make the experience one of a kind.

26/6/2019 Excursion to one of the 7 wonders of the world!!!

It was a magical excursion, thanks to our guide Rodrigo Cat who with his explanations, his kindness, his sympathy and above all his knowledge made an excursion of many hours an unforgettable day. And I can’t forget Carlos our driver, a professional behind the wheel who drove for many hours over 500 km and who took care of our belongings. Thank you very much Carlos and thank you very much Rodrigo Cat. Enrique and Manoli from Ocean Riviera Paradise.

Tour and swim

Cenote is totally refreshing, highly recommend taking a dip. Be sure to take cash as you have to rent life jackets for the swim. Highly recommend water shoes as rocks can be slippery. It’s hot enough there and you dry off quickly, but you may want to take a change of clothes and your own towel. Great trip, the ruins are fascinating and are one of the wonders of the world.

AMAZING

It is overwhelming to know about such an important culture, to be able to walk, touch, sit and enjoy. You can do a route alone or accompanied with guide and enjoy the same way

I WOULD NOT BOOK WITH ALTUS TOURS OR...

I WOULD NOT BOOK WITH ALTUS TOURS OR 7wonders Tour group. Worst tour experience I have ever booked with. The first review by Sara N was SPOT ON and I wish there was a second review to validate her review prior to me booking with this company. i just assumed one bad review was enough to overlook.

Complaints:
1. our tour guide MIKE started pitching sales on top of sales the entire day. started off with papyrus paintings from the mayans for 20 usd, various other items, and tips to conclude the tour. I woke up to him asking me if i wanted to buy something and I asked what it was that was being sold for 20. he responded, well you don't know because you were sleeping' I felt he was pretty conscending this way throughout the entire tour.

2. I booked an english speaking tour. Mike barely spoke/translated english 80 of the time so i was lost which is why i fell asleep in the first place and when he would speak in english, it would be mid spainish sentence and completely out of context. Example: He would say spainish-spainish... and then they would cut their heads off for the sacrifice in mayan culture. again, lost.

3. he did not follow the itinerary at all. he customized the itinerary to his liking and which cenote he felt like going to. i specifically booked this tour to go to a different cenote than ik kil because I knew it would be extremely crowded and I was right. I booked this tour to go to cenote hubiko and he took us to ik kil. We only had 45 minutes to rent lockers, towels, change, shower, swim, shower, change, and be back in the bus -- even though there were 50 other tours in line to do the same thing.

4. when we got to chichen itza, he jetted off the bus and disseapeared. I had to scour the crowd of hundreds of tourist with my disabled mother to find him again at the ticket office. when he began the tour, we almost lost him again because he was walking really fast and igored the fact that me and my mom were far behind the tour. I understand he has a schedule and others can walk faster, but it just goes to show the lack of empathy or consideration on his part. i was so fed up at this point when i caught up to the group the second time, i called him out for leaving us and ended up following another FULLY ENGLISH speaking tour shortly after.

5. Tour was advertised that they provide a free bottle of water, this was NOT provided.

Tips:

do not buy anything at the real mayab restaurant / gift shop, you will get ripped off by 3x what they charge at chichen itza if you even have time to shop so many tourist complained about buying things they could've gotten for cheaper as we past all the vendors at chichen itza. They would yell out 1 for things we paid 15 for.

food at real mayab was mediocre at best, if you have a tour that will bring you somewhere else to eat, i suggest going with that. or going on a tour that will give you more time in valladolid skipping real mayab to enjoy a restaurant in that area.

I considered doing a night tour or a early access tour and I wish i had because it was extremely hot midday at chichen itza and crowded. but ive seen it be a tiny bit pricier.
