Deze indrukwekkende en beroemde tempel is gebouwd tussen de 14e en 15e eeuw en staat bekend om de grootste stoepa van de stad. Naast de torenhoge chedi, was Wat Chedi Luang ook ooit het huis van de Smaragdgroene Boeddha die nu is gehuisvest in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. In vergelijking met Wat Chedi Luang zal Wat Phan Tao vrij bescheiden lijken. Laat je echter niet misleiden door de grootte! Deze kleine tempel is gemaakt van ingewikkeld gesneden teakhout. Het was ook ooit een troonzaal voor koning Mahotara Prateth voordat het een toegewijd huis van gebed werd.
Dit prachtige en weelderige gebouw werd gebouwd in de 14e eeuw en staat bekend als een van de mooiste tempels van de stad. Met een geweldig terrein, veelgeprezen ontwerpen en een met mozaïek ingelegd heiligdom, is er veel te zien en te bewonderen, waaronder het grote Leeuwenboeddhabeeld, vergulde pagodes, artistieke muurschilderingen en historische beelden.

The tour name is deceiving because we did not receive a tour of the Old City. Instead it was walking into 20+ temples in two complexes within the Old City. The tour guide was friendly and professional. She spoke English; however, she had such a strong Thai accent that it was difficult to understand her.

We had a wonderful time walking through the old city of Chiang Mai. Annie was a wonderful tour guide giving us the history of the old city and the kings who ruled it. She explained to us in detail what every temple signified and the application of Buddhism to the place. I highly recommend you book a tour with this group and you will never be disappointed with a guide like her.

This was the worst tour that I’ve taken in Thailand and I’ve been on several in 4 years. Guide talked too much and we walked 200 meters in 1 hour 45 minutes.

I bailed out after less than an hour of what was supposed to be a three-hour guided tour. Don’t waste your money. You’d be better off just walking between the three sites in your own time, they are easy to find on Google Maps.
